WOMEN - 1/75 COPIES WITH AN ORIGINAL PAINTING BOUND IN

Santa Barbara: Black Sparrow Press, 1978. First Edition. Limited Issue, one of 75 numbered copies signed by the author, this being copy no.15. Octavo (23.75cm); brown illustrated paper-covered boards with a tan and dark brown leaf-patterned cloth backstrip, and printed paper label applied to spine; publisher's original acetate dustjacket; 290, [6]pp. Original five-color oil painting of Gumby with accompanying tissue guard bound in following the copyright page. Hint of a forward lean, with a tiny bump at lower edge of front board, else Near Fine in a lightly shelfworn acetate jacket. The smallest limitation of Bukowski's third and most ambitious novel. "Written in an episodic manner reminiscent of Post Office and Factotum, the book begins with a typically Bukowskian complaint: "I was 50 years old and hadn't been to bed with a woman for four years." It was the kind of honesty that people had come to expect from Henry Chinaski/Charles Bukowski" (Cherkovski, p.262). Among the most desirable of the author's books, this particular copy being the only deluxe issue we have handled with artwork depicting an easily-recognizable character. Krumhansl 63e.

The Country Life Book of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.

4to., original cloth with price-clipped dust wrapper. Tear to upper panel of wrapper which has a few nicks, otherwise a very good copy. First edition. Inscribed by the Queen Mother to Fleur Cowles "This book is signed for Fleur Cowles by her friend Elizabeth R. October 1979." Also with a Christmas card for 1987 signed by the Queen Mother loosely inserted. "Everybody's favourite Royal in Britain is Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, whose friendship has truly enriched my life. How does one characterize this great lady, her irresistible grace, even a raffish sort of charm? I started by reminding myself that she is her century; she was born with it in 1900, to become a beloved symbol of the British royals, known within the family as 'The Firm'. Ninety-five in August 1995, her energy astounds, her stamina amazes, and her curiosity is still as lively as ever." "Yes, I am totally devoted to the Queen Mother, and grateful for her friendship. I love my copy [as offered here] of Godfrey Talbot's book on her which she inscribed in her own distinguished hand: "To Fleur Cowles, by her friend Elizabeth R."

Autograph letter signed "Love Iannis" to the distinguished music administrator and author Renée Levine Packer

The Legend of Eer was first performed in Paris on February 11, 1978. Xenakis, a French composer of Greek parentage, "belonged to the pioneering generation of composers who revolutionized 20th-century music after World War II. With the ardour of an outsider to academic musical life, he was one of the first to replace traditional musical thinking with radical new concepts of sound composition. His musical language had a strong influence on many younger composers in and outside of Europe, but it remained singular for its uncompromising harshness and conceptual rigour." Peter Hoffmann in Grove Music Online. "Born in France, raised in New York and Mexico City, Levine Packer worked with Lukas Foss and was co-director with Morton Feldman of the renowned contemporary music group in Buffalo, New York, and a director of the Contemporary Music Festival at the California Institute of the Arts. She was Director of the Inter-Arts program at the National Endowment for the Arts, the producer of Steve Reich and Beryl Korot's multimedia opera The Cave, and a dean at the Maryland Institute College of Art." Oxford University Press online.. 1 page. Folio, ca. 295 x 209 mm. Dated February 25, [19]81. In black ink. With original autograph envelope with the Paris and California addresses of Xenakis and Packer written in black ink to upper panel and postmarked February 26, 1981. Pleased to have heard from Packer, Xenakis discusses his electronic music composition, The Legend of Eer (La legénde d'Eer). "... I would have loved to send you the tape of "Legend of Eer," but, there is a serious but, I have to be at the console. It is very difficult to put together 7 tracks because there is no final version yet. So, maybe next time I'll come and conduct the Legend and see you." Slightly worn; creased at corners and folds; several small edge tears, with no loss to text; small coffee stain to blank lower margin, not affecting text.

Aus der Bibliothek von Prof. Dr. Wolfram Kleiss, langjährigem Leiter der Außenstelle Teheran des Deutschen Archäologischen Instituts. Nr 145/300 Exemplaren. Ein gutes und sauberes Exemplar. - Text auch englisch. - The Museum of Ancient Iran or Iran-e Bastan was designed by French architect Andre Godard in the early 20th century. It has a built area of approximately 11000 square meters. Began in 1935 and completed within two years by Abbas Ali Memar and Morad Tabrizi, the museum building was officially inaugurated in 1937. The second building, Museum of the Islamic Era, built on the grassy grounds of the old one, went through quite a few and hasty changes of the interior, and was still being remodeled when the Revolution of 1979 swept the country. While the old building always had a clear mandate to show archaeological relics (to also include some rare medieval textiles and rug pieces), the new building began its life by featuring the exquisite Amlash pottery from the prehistoric Caspian Sea regions of Iran. This was followed by some modern arts, and the repeated gutting and remodeling of the interior. Versandkostenfreie Lieferung

Auflage 1983). 9. Carl Grosse: Der Genius (1982). Zweite Folge (hellgraues Halbleinen): 10. Leopold Schefer: Der Waldbrand (1985). 11.
