No Exit: Fanzine for the Other Wave. [Complete]

San Francisco: No Exit, 1977. 8 1/2 x 11", each issue offset printed on rectos only from cut-up collage, typescript, holograph, and photographs, and stapled once at the upper left hand corner (with original staple missing to no. 1). Second issue with original 80 cents price sticker from Aquarius Records to cover. Both issues published of this rare, very early first wave punk fanzine from San Francisco "dealing with exclusively New Wave Music, People, and Fashion". Legendary punk photographer James Stark was the house photographer for the magazine, and his photographs are complimented throughout with an excellent, severe design throughout by Selan Hall. Jane Who was the fashion editor, and the first issue includes a fashion page of photographs, with some of the models wearing clothes and accessories from Diamond Lil's. That issue also includes interviews with Novak and Johnny Strike of Crime, and even a couple of stills from the NBC weekend show on the UK punk scene. The second issue prints interviews with the Avengers, Penelope Houston, and the Nuns, all accompanied by original original photographs by Stark, and live reviews of Zeros and Weirdos. The first issue is very scarce, but the second issue is rare. This is the only copy we've handled or seen in the past 12 years. First issue with original staple removed; some slight toning, else fine. Second issue fine.

Fortress Marin: An Aesthetic and Historical Description of the Coastal Fortifications of Southern Marin County

Santa Cruz:: The Quail Press,, 1977. First Edition. Hardcover. Like New. Tom Killion. Signed by Author. LIMITED EDITION of 240 copies, hand-printed from the original blocks, this is number 111, SIGNED by Tom Killion on the colophon. 4to. 11 1/16 x 8 1/4 inches. [58] pp. Double-spread title-page illustration in two colors, 16 lino-cut illustrations in blue ink, table of construction, 1 red initial, two-page map tipped-in at the rear; text clean, un-marked. Quarter brown cloth, red paper over boards, printed paper front cover label; binding square and tight. "Tom Killion and The Quail Press" letterpress printed business card laid in. SIGNED by the artist on the colophon. An exceptionally clean copy. Fine. Fortress Marin was hand-printed by the author at the Quail Press, Santa Cruz, in the Fall of 1977. It is the second book printed at the Quail Press. The prints are all lino-cuts, and the reverse, or "ghost" image which backs most of them is intentional; it represents the original block. The paper is Japanese hosho; the type-face is Bembo. Designed by Richard Bigus. Tom Killion combines sensitive prose with superb linoleum block cuts to describe Fortress Marin on two levels: a lyrical walking tour along the cliffs and a short history of the fortifications that guarded San Francisco Bay.

Jabberwocky (Original screenplay for the 1977 film)

London: Cinema 5, 1977. Early Draft British script for the 1977 comedy directed by Terry Gilliam, based on the poem by Lewis Carroll from "Through the Looking Glass" (1871). Terry Gilliam's first solo directorial effort after co-directing "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" with Terry Jones. A comedy in the Python style--and with much of the Python cast--owing much to "The Holy Grail," but with evidence of Gilliam's unique touch, which would come into full bloom with "Time Bandits" (1981) and ultimately "Brazil" (1985). Red titled wrappers with die-cut front wrapper in the British style. Title page present, with credits for writers Alverson and Gilliam (holograph ink parenthetical markings to the left and right of their names). Noted as "A Revisedish Sort of Finalish Draft, February 10, 1976" at the bottom right. 147 leaves, roneograph. Pages Near Fine, wrappers Good to Very Good with creasing at the corners and some staining. Holograph notations and pencil sketches in an unknown hand on the verso of 8 leaves, apparently unrelated to the script or the production. Small ink scrawl on the rear panel. Internally bound with two silver brads.

        Walt Disney's Disney Time comic #8 March 19th 1977

: , 1977. The Funny Folk of Disneyland in Watch Out! There Are Painters About! Original hand-painted artwork for the double center page spread for the Walt Disney's Disney Time comic #8 dated March 19th 1977. Gouache on artist board. Image size: 9 1/2 x 16 3/4 inches. In fine condition. Together with a copy of Walt Disney's Disney Time comic #8. Matted, framed and glazed. "This week our chums decided to help one of their friends by painting his house. So they armed themselves with pots of paint and paint brushes and set to work. What a-splishing and a-splashing and a-sploshing of paint there was. And just look at some of the funny things that happened. Rabbit was cheerful enough when he started to paint the chimney pots, but things began to look black (at least his face began to look black) when he got in the way a could of sooty smoke! Kaa, the snake from "The Jungle Book", felt a bit flat - but that was because Bongo Bear accidentally ran over him on his one-wheeled cycle! Do you wonder what Morty and Ferdie got up to? Well, those mischievous little lads got up to the top of the roof! Oh, dear! What will they do next? Still, between them the chums managed to finish the work - although it was mainly thanks to Merlin the magician and his marvellous magic paint brushes! Can you spot this week's hidden objects? They are two burshes, a paint pot, two slippers, two hats and a pipe."

Tertiary History of the Grand Canon with Atlas to Accompany the Monograph on the Tertiary History of the Grand Canon District (two volume set)

Santa Barbara, CA: Peregrine Smith, Inc, 1977. 1/1500. Monograph and Atlas. 264pp. Quarto [30 cm] / Folio [51 cm] Both volumes bound in a 1/2 bonded brown leather over tan canvas boards. The Monograph volume, in fine condition, is slipcased (with mild soiling), and the Atlas volume is without a slipcase. The portfolio housing the plates is a bit worn at the edges, and has a 1 3/4" crack in the front joint at the head of the spine. Atlas: Twenty-three sheets including title-page and table of contents (sheet 1), 12 color maps, 10 color views. Complete with all plates, bright, and showing only very minor edge wear. The number line on the limitation page of the monograph is blank. Overall, the set is in very good condition. This atlas contains the three stunning panoramas, 'From Point Sublime in the Kaibab', by William H. Holmes. These three panoramas offer a 270 degree view of the Grand Canyon. This atlas also contains Thomas Moran's exquisite work, 'The Transept, Kaibab Division, Grand Cañon An Amphitheater of the Second Order.' These four plates have made this work one of the most sought after Western Americana titles. In 1875, Clarence Edward Dutton (1841-1912) joined the United States Geological Survey and is known for his extensive explorations of the Rocky Mountain region. His greatest accomplishment is his Tertiary History of the Grand Canon District of 1882. It is still considered the preeminent work on the Grand Canyon to date. The atlas is beautifully illustrated with maps and views engraved by Julius Bien. Sheet XVIII of the atlas, entitled "The Transept, Kaibab Division, Grand Canyon" is based on the monumental painting of the same title by artist Thomas Moran (1837-1926). Moran, more than any other artist is most closely associated with images of the Grand Canyon. The field artist for the Dutton geological exploration was William Henry Holmes (1846-1933). Holmes was most noted for his sense of realism and accurate draftsmanship. Holmes contributed many finely executed panoramic views of the Grand Canyon to the Atlas that are quite stunning. He exhibited at the National Academy of Design, The Art Institute of Chicago and The Brooklyn Art Club among others. Holmes later held positions as Curator at the University of Chicago (1898-1906) and was a former Director of the National Academy of Design (1920-1932). Farquhar states: "One of the greatest, if not the very greatest of all Grand Canyon books...The atlas, containing the superb panoramic views by William H. Holmes and a drawing by Thomas Moran, is a rich portfolio of art as well as a collection of maps and an exposition of geology." Four page Wallace Stegner introduction at front of monograph.
