Luzern, Kunstkreis u. Faksimile-Vlg., / 1981 1977 - 2°, (39,5 x 28,5 cm) 680 originalgetreu faks. Seiten, davon 443 Seiten mit farb. Miniaturen, auf 6 echten Bünden in Holzkassette. Kommentarbd.: 724 S., zahlr. Abb., Faksimile: Ganzleder- Schweinslederbd mit Blindprägung, 2 Schliessen u. 10 Beschläge. Kommentarband in OHLdr., Tadell. VERGRIFFEN! Exempl. 508 von 980 arab. Num. Exemplaren.

Collection of photographs from 11 Andy Warhol films, 1965-1974

Various cities: Andy Warhol Films Syn-Frank Enterprises Levitt-Pickman Film Corporation Concorde Film Constantin-Film New World Pictures EMI, 1977. Substantial collection of photo advertisement for 11 of Andy Warhol's films, including every film release between "Flesh" (1968) and "Bad" (1974), as well as a single rare example from "My Hustler" (1965). The collection includes 178 photographs, 2 international posters, and a color transparency preview slide. Represented is a fascinating cross-section of advertising styles, including the US releases, a set of stills from The Netherlands (one of the first to distribute Warhol internationally) that have the blindstamp of the Netherlands censorship board, and German stills in their original mailing envelopes, easily the most visceral of the three. Collectively the photographs convey the many LGBT themes of Warhol's films, as well as their qualities of abstraction, detachment, and absurdity. A breakdown of the collection follows: My Hustler (1965): Vintage single weight black and white photograph, with contemporary notations on the verso. 8 x 10 inches (20 x 25 cm). Near Fine. Flesh (1968): Two-color German lobby set of 22 photos. 9.75 x 12 inches (24 x 30 cm). In the original two-color Constantin-Film sack envelope. Photos Fine, Photos Fine, envelope Good to Very Good with some tears and contemporary notations in black ink.. Small color slide advertisement for FLESH, issued by Constantin-Film for previewing the film in theaters. 3.5 x 3.5 inches. Near Fine. Lonesome Cowboys (1968): Two-color German lobby set of 20 photos. 9.75 x 12 inches (24 x 30 cm). In the original two-color Constantin-Film sack envelope. Photos Fine, envelope Near Fine. Blue Movie (1969) Two-color German lobby set of 14 photos. 9.75 x 12 inches (24 x 30 cm). Fine. Trash (1970): Two-color German lobby set of 22 photos. 9.75 x 12 inches (24 x 30 cm). In the original two-color Constantin-Film sack envelope. Photos Fine, envelope Good to Very Good with some tears and chipping. Women in Revolt [Women] (1971): Two-color German lobby set of 12 photos. 9.75 x 12 inches (24 x 30 cm). Fine. Heat (1972): 6 single weight black and white photographs. 3 are borderless, and 3 have a credit at the lower margin for Dallesandro, Miles, Morrissey, Syn-Frank Enterprises, and Levitt-Pickman Film Corporation. Heat (1972) under the international title "Hollywood": Two-color German lobby set of 20 photos. 9.75 x 12 inches (24 x 30 cm). In the original two-color Constantin-Film sack envelope. Photos Fine, envelope Near Fine. Full color German poster. 11.75 x 19 inches. Folded once as issued, Fine. L'amour (1973): 23 single weight black and white photographs, each with a white margin, each with the CONCORDE FILM logo present in the original negative, and each with a blindstamp from the Centrale Commissie voor de Filmkeuring (a Dutch committee responsible for censoring films in the Netherlands, between 1928 and 1977). It is important to note that upon release, "L'amour" had only two distributors: Altura Films International in the US, and Concorde in The Netherlands. 8 x 10 inches (20 x 25 cm), Very Good to Near Fine. Flesh for Frankenstein (1973): 8 double weight color UK studio still photographs. Fine. Blood for Dracula (1974): 5 double weight color UK studio still photographs. Fine.         SEARCH AND DESTROY Nos. 1-11 [Complete Run] [with]: RE/SEARCH 1-3

San Francisco: Search and Destroy / Rough Trade, 1977-1979 and 1980-1981. First Edition. Wraps. Near fine. Tabloid on newsprint. All folded once, as issued. Generally very good or better with some toning and some splitting here and there at folds. Occasional soil and chipping. Else a set clean and sound overall. Most issues 16-28pp. Heavily illustrated throughout with B&W photographs. Complete run of "the most ambitious publication of the entire punk press" (Berniere & Primois 218). Founded by Vale Hamanaka while work- ing at City Lights Bookstore and originally funded by Ferlinghetti and Allen Ginsberg, SEARCH & DESTROY was (according to Jello Biafra) "the greatest underground zine I've ever seen [...] where the definition of punk rock was much wider" (quoted 219). Named for the Stooge's an- them, SEARCH AND DESTROY remains one of the most important, vibrant, and influential periodicals to emerge from punk. Includes features, interviews, photos, and like from all the major (and many minor) punk figures in both the UK and US: Sex Pistols, The Ramones, Pere Ubu, Crime, Dead Kennedys, Patti Smith, Screamers, Clash, Throbbing Gristle, Buzzcocks, Talking Heads, Devo, Weirdos, and Suicide. SEARCH AND DESTROY also served as a bridge between the punk scene and the literary/visual artists who both influenced and were influenced by punk: Ginsberg, Burroughs, Ballard, Acker, John Waters, David Lynch, Bruce Conner, Russ Meyer, and like. All issues first printings, with the first issue in its first state (with hand-stamped covers) and #10 and RE/SEARCH 1-3 not the later reprints. Though the zine technically ceased publication with issue #11, it quickly morphed into RE/SEARCH, a magazine which ran for three issues in an identical format and with nearly identical concerns before evolving into a glossy annual. An uncommonly complete run of this seminal punk zine. [Triggs 46].

James Bond, The Spy Who Loved Me.

London, Pan Books 1977, 1977. Spy novel, a paperback original; published simultaneously with a hardcover edition. Slim octavo, pictorial card wrappers. Near fine. SIGNED and INSCRIBED by James Bond actor Roger Moore to half-title 'Best Wishes | Roger Moore 007'. This is the original story / novel of the 1977 James Bond film 'The Spy Who Loved Me' written under licence from Ian Fleming's copyright holders Glidrose. When Fleming sold the film rights to his novels he would not consent to this title and Moonraker being filmed as written; he felt 'The Spy Who Loved Me' was an experimental novel (with female perspective and narrative), and 'Moonraker' was somewhat dated; therefore both would need re-writing and Christopher Wood was brought in by director Lewis Gilbert to produce a screenplay and subsequent novel, a task he repeated for the next film 'Moonraker'.

Robert Adams: Denver: A Photographic Survey of the Metropolitan Area [SIGNED]

Colorado Associated University Press, Boulder, Colorado 1977 - First edition, first printing. Signed in pencil on the title page by Adams. Hardcover. Black cloth-covered boards with title stamped in white on cover and spine; with photographically illustrated dust jacket. Photographs and text by Robert Adams. 124 pp., with 92 black-and-white plates. 9 x 10-3/4 inches. Fine in Very Good dust jacket (sunning to the jacket, endemic to the title). From the publisher: "Denver was once known for the grandeur of its setting and the clarity of its air, but haas more recently gained notoriety for its uncontrolled growth. Among problems, for example, that have accompanied the growth are a rate of violent crime that is now nearly double that of new York, and a smog level routinely exceeding that of Los Angeles. Robert Adams brings to this landscape an acute vision, one that has earned him widespread respect as a photographer.Adams' interest is in areas of the city that are not usually thought memorable -- subdivisions, freeways, shopping centers, and industrial lands. he discovers in these lost scenes an unorthodox beauty, even while establishing in them our failure to create fully humane living conditions. Those concerned with the future of the suburban American West will find this a document of major importance." Signed by Author. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

In Patagonia [Hardcover Advance Proof Copy]

London/NY: Jonathan Cape/Summit. 1977/1978. A hardcover advance proof copy of the American edition of Chatwin's first book, created from a first British edition, with the addition of a U.S. proof dust jacket, featuring quotes from British publications (including Paul Theroux, writing for the London Times). The British trade edition has had its free endpages excised and pasted over the pictorial pastedowns; and the photographs that graced the text of the British edition have also been excised, in keeping with the appearance of the American edition. This copy was obviously sent out and used for review: reviewer's marks and comments in text, and the blank jacket flaps have been filled with the reviewer's notes. The book, apart from the intended excisions and notes, is fine; the proof jacket (again, apart from the reviewer notes), is spine and edge-sunned, with the title and author handwritten on the spine, largely faded; overall near fine. An uncommon issue, presumably done prior to the issuance of an American proof copy and different from the U.K. first edition in ways that parallel the eventual U.S. edition (and U.S. proof). First Edition. Hardcover.

        Song of Solomon.

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1977. First edition of the author's third book. Octavo, original black cloth. Signed by Toni Morrison on the title page. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket with a touch of wear. A very nice example. "A stunningly beautiful book . . . I would call the book poetry, but that would seem to be denying its considerable power as a story. Whatever name you give it, it's full of magnificent people, each of them complex and multilayered, even the narrowest of them narrow in extravagant ways" (Anne Tyler).

The Butterfly's Ball and the Grasshopper's Feast

Anne and David Bromer, (Watertown, MA) 1977 - (24)pp. The text is printed on Japanese paper with ornamentation in green. Wood engravings by Sarah Chamberlain, as her first miniature book commission. This is the first miniature book published by the Bromers. Midori Kunikata-Cockram captures the whimsical nature of the text, which was the first English poem for children intended for sheer amusement. The front and rear boards are covered with parchment, on which the artist has hand-drawn the insects and small animals attending the feast amongst a pattern of vines and flowers in crimson ink. Delicate onlays of black morocco create the silhouette of a vine climbing up the book's burgundy morocco spine. Inside, endpapers printed with oak leaves and cut-out leaves with hand-drawn shading in pastel reference the oak tree in the poem, beneath which the revels were held. Housed in a suede-lined box, the exterior of which is covered with paper hand-tooled in a foliate pattern and gilt-titled to the morocco spine. A parchment tab painted with a butterfly on one side and a grasshopper on the reverse, helps to lift the book out of the box. With the binder's blind-stamped mark to the penultimate endleaf and signed by Chamberlain to the colophon. Extremely fine. (2 1/2 by 2 1/8; 63x53mm). [Attributes: Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

John Murray,, London, 1977 - 3 volumes (complete set). London, John Murray, 1977. Octavo. Pagination: (Time of Gifts) [frontispiece] [8], 291, [1] pages / (Woods and Water) [10], 248 pages / (Broken Road) xxii, 362 pages. Original Hardcover with illustrated dustjackets. The three volumes in first edition of Patrick Leigh Fermor's account of his epic walk to Constantinople, now seen as one of the great works of travel literature in the language. All three books are first editions in their jackets, the first volume near fine in blue publisher's boards, without ownership inscriptions to the book. The jacket is very good with a bright front panel showing John Craxton's evocative central European design, some fading to the orange background on the spine and foxing to the rear blue panel. Between the Woods and the Water is near fine in a very good jacket which has been price clipped. The Broken Road is fine in a fine jacket with a small 2013 ownership signature on the first endpaper. It was Patrick Leigh Fermor's good fortune to set out on his great adventure in the early nineteen thirties before Nazism and the Second World War changed the Europe for ever, but to wait forty years before writing the first two volumes of his luminous narrative. His account of German beer cellars, of Prague under snow and love in Vienna, all occurring while the shadow of Nazism looms, bears comparison with Chatwin, Robert Byron and the best twentieth century writers in any genre. Sir Patrick Michael Leigh Fermor, DSO, OBE (11 February 1915 – 10 June 2011), also known as Paddy Fermor, was a British author, scholar and soldier who played a prominent role behind the lines in the Cretan resistance during the Second World War. He was widely regarded as Britain's greatest living travel writer during his lifetime, based on books such as A Time of Gifts (1977). A BBC journalist once described him as "a cross between Indiana Jones, James Bond and Graham Greene." The Patrick Leigh Fermor Society was formed in 2014. At the age of 18, Leigh Fermor decided to walk the length of Europe, from the Hook of Holland to Constantinople. He set off on 8 December 1933, less than a year after Hitler had come to power in Germany, with a few clothes, several letters of introduction, the Oxford Book of English Verse and a volume of Horace's Odes. He slept in barns and shepherds' huts, but also was invited by landed gentry and aristocracy into the country houses of Central Europe. He experienced hospitality in many monasteries along the way. Two of his later travel books, A Time of Gifts (1977) and Between the Woods and the Water (1986), were about this journey. A book on the final part of his journey was unfinished at the time of Leigh Fermor's death, but was published as The Broken Road: Travels from Bulgaria to Mount Athos in September 2013 by John Murray. The book draws on Leigh Fermor's diary at the time and on an early draft he wrote in the 1960s. Leigh Fermor arrived in Constantinople on 1 January 1935, then continued to travel around Greece. In March, he was involved in the campaign of royalist forces in Macedonia against an attempted Republican revolt. In Athens, he met Balasha Cantacuzène (Balasa Cantacuzino), a Romanian Phanariote noblewoman, with whom he fell in love. They shared an old watermill outside the city looking out towards Poros, where she painted and he wrote. They moved on to Baleni, Gala?i, the Cantacuzène house in Moldavia, where they were living at the outbreak of the Second World War.       Boulder, CO: Colorado Associated University Press, 1977. First edition. Small oblong hardcover. A collection of 91 black and white images that have been divided into 7 sections. While his earlier book "The New West" might be more acclaimed this book is a more focused attempt to document the life and growth of one city. A close to near fine copy with some slanting to the spine in an about very good dust jacket with the spine and edges sunned as usual and with a small triangle shaped skinned area with a tiny chip and tear to the bottom of the rear panel.         The Variorum Edition of the Poems of W. B. Yeats.

New York: Macmillan Publishing Co. Inc.,, 1977. Edited by Peter Allt and Russell K. Alspach. Octavo. Original blue cloth, spine lettered in gilt. With the dust jacket. Two letters to Hill laid in: autograph letter signed with a few instances of bleeding to ink; typed letter signed, fine; both gently creased where folded. A very good copy in the lightly rubbed dust jacket a touch nicked and creased at spine-ends. Seventh edition. Geoffrey Hill's copy, with his ownership inscription to the front free endpaper. A superb association, the question of Yeatsian influences on Hill having provoked one of more memorable literary controversies of recent years when Tom Paulin's unfavourable review of Geoffrey Hill: Essays on his Work (LRB vol. 7 no. 6, 4 April 1985) garnered Craig Raine's rejoinder, "No sooner has the quaking poem entered his study than he [Paulin] has it by the ear and is laying into it for stealing from Yeats major"; thirty years later, though, Hill would affirm: "I'd like to see a poetry which is highly architectonic and yet sounds spontaneous, as in Yeats. There's always this sense of massive architectural control in Yeats, but out of it burst these spontaneous, ragged phrases. That's what poetry should be like" (interview with Geoffrey Hill, Isis Magazine, April 27 2015, online). A highly evocative copy richly complemented by two contrasting letters addressed to Hill, each illuminating a different side to the poet's life. Firstly an autograph letter signed from Peter Walker, Bishop of Ely, with his personal letterhead, dated 7 April 1984, thanks Hill for "your most generous present of your The Lords of Limit … in what has been the most difficult year since I have been a bishop, your own poetry has been a real ray of light. It has been a discovery, and it has the marvellous quality of not yielding everything at once! Your visual images do more for me than anyone else's writing - but of course it is far more than that". Walker died in 2010, his Telegraph obituary noting that "soon after his arrival [in Ely] it became apparent that the cathedral ?- the great "Ship of the Fens" ?- was in urgent need of extensive repair and conservation. Before long there were to be problems of a different sort in the Close which led to the departure of the Dean under a cloud, and in 1984 Walker persuaded the Crown to appoint the Archdeacon of Wisbech, William Patterson, to the deanery to take things in hand". More quotidian concerns are suggested by David McDuff's typed letter signed, dated 17th June 1982 and proposing on behalf of Peter Jay of the Anvil Press to publish a pamphlet of Hill's poetry: "Each year Anvil offers those participating in its subscription scheme a free copy of a limited edition, usually signed, of a specially published pamphlet of poems by a well-known poet … Peter asked me to tell you that William Cookson informed him recently that you might have some new poems which might be suitable for such a publication": a request to which Hill does not appear to have given his assent.
