James Bond, The Spy Who Loved Me

London: Jonathan Cape. 1977, 1977. FIRST EDITION. Octavo. Publisher's black cloth-effect paper over boards with gilt titles to spine in original jacket designed by Bill Botten. Both book and jacket are a little worn, page edges spotted, jacket with a few short tears; generally in very good condition. This is the original story / novel of the 1977 James Bond film 'The Spy Who Loved Me' written under licence from Ian Fleming's copyright holders Glidrose. When Fleming sold the film rights to his novels he would not consent to this title and Moonraker being filmed as written; he felt 'The Spy Who Loved Me' was an experimental novel (with female perspective and narrative), and 'Moonraker' was somewhat dated; therefore both would need re-writing and Christopher Wood was brought in by director Lewis Gilbert to produce a screenplay and subsequent novel, a task he repeated for the next film 'Moonraker'.

Enzyklopädie des Märchens. Handwörterbuch zur historischen und vergleichenden Erzählforschung. Herausgegeben von Kurt Ranke [ab Band 5 von Rolf Wilhelm Brednich] zusammen mit Hermann Bausinger, Wolfgang Brückner, Max Lüthi, Lutz Rörich, [...]. - Bände 1-13 (A-Verf).

Berlin & New York: Walter de Gruyter 1977-2010. 13 Bände (von 14). Gr. 8° (22,5 -25 cm). Orig.-Leinenbände mit Orig.-Schutzumschlägen. [Hardcover / fest gebunden]. [...]. - The Enzyklopädie des Märchens (Encyclopedia of the Folktale) (published by Walter de Gruyter) is a reference work presenting the results of almost two centuries of international research in the field of folk narrative tradition past and present. By 2014, 14 volumes have been published (Aarne - Zypern). The Encyclopedia is to comprise 14 volumes, each volume consisting of three fascicles and containing a total of 720 pages. As of 1997, it is published at the rate of one fascicle per year. Once completed, the Encyclopedia will comprise approximately 3900 alphabetically arranged entries categorized as follows: \"Theories and methods, genre questions, problems of style and structure, issues of context and performance; Short monographs on important tale-types and motifs; Biographies of scholars, collectors, and authors of literary works relevant to folk narrative research; National and regional surveys providing information about folk narrative tradition and folk narrative research. The title Enzyklopädie des Märchens does not imply a genre restriction to Märchen in terms of modern definitions. The Encyclopedia deals with all narrative categories which the Brothers Grimm, according to their broad conception of Märchen, have included in their Household Tales, i. e. tales of magic, but also animal tales, fables, religious tales, aetiological narratives, religious, historical, and demonological legends, novelle, humorous tales, formula tales, etc. This corresponds to the genres found in the AaTh and ATU indices. The Encyclopedia aims at comparing the rich stock of narrative material available from a broad range of ethnic groups which has been transmitted orally and through the medium of literature, and at pointing out its social, historical, psychological and religious backgrounds. It focuses on the oral and literary narrative traditions of Europe, and of countries influenced by European culture, as well as on those from the Mediterranean area and from Asia. The folk traditions of peoples who have only recently become literate are dealt with in regional surveys. Furthermore, the channels of transmission of narrative themes and motifs are traced in sources such as exempla and sermon books, chronicles, legendaries and chapbooks, as well as literary works which have a bearing on oral tradition, thus illustrating the permanent exchange between literature and oral tradition.\" (Quelle: gwdg-de) - Hier vorliegend die Bände 1-13. - Williams offers her view on blacks playing Jazz. "I said in the Ebony that no black 35 yrs of age can play the music his ancestors (slaves) suffered for. They have lost the spiritual feeling - The whites play the music best. It's a shame - we allowed Africa to lay a bomb on us. Jazz is an American Art - created from suffering of the early black slaves. The black American became ashamed of the spirituals blues, slaves etc., losing a great art - JAZZ! Study the enclosed tree." She signs, "Mary Lou Williams." Duke University appointed Mary Lou William artist-in-residence in 1977. She wrote our fine letter two years after her appointment and held that position she held until her death in 1981. Slight soiling along vertical margin folds, envelope torn open along side. Williams was as an important jazz composer who continued to grow musically throughout her life. Her most noted compositions are "Zodiac Suite" and "Mary Lou's Mass."         The Fury (Original screenplay, plus four sets of revised pages)

Los Angeles: Frank Yablans Presentations / Twentieth Century-Fox, 1977. Final script for the 1978 science fiction/horror film, "The Fury," directed by Brian DePalma, based on the 1976 novel by John Farris, written for the screen by Farris and DePalma, and starring Kirk Douglas, John Cassavetes, Carrie Snodgrass, Charles Durning, and Amy Irving. The script is accompanied by four sets of revised sheets (with the name of unidentified cast/crew member John Friedkin in pencil at the top of the first revision set) on pink and orange stock, dated August 15, September 12, September 16, and November 17, respectively. Literally a "mind-blowing" film, in which two young psychic savants (Amy Irving and Andrew Stevens) possess the ability to blow up the head of a another person by means of telekinesis. Douglas and Cassavetes play two men (one good, one evil) battling for control over the youngsters, with Cassavetes on the nefarious side of the line. One of DePalma's most entertaining genre films, pre-dating Cronenberg's slightly more intellectual "Scanners" by 3 years. White studio wrappers, dated June 20, 1977 and with credits for both Frank Yablans Presentations and Twentieth Century-Fox. Title page present, with a screenwriter credit for Farris. 133 leaves, blue stock, mechanically reproduced. Some corner creasing to the last several leaves else pages and wrapper are Near Fine, bound with two gold brads.

        Hand Colored Flowers

New York: Printed by Mitchell Friedman, assisted by Jeremy Dine, 1977. Etching, soft-ground etching, aquatint, drypoint, engraving, and electric tools on one plumber's copper plate. Printed in black with hand painting in blue, two shades of pink, yellow, violet, and green watercolour after editioning. State i/iii. Edition of 50, No. 48/50, signed and dated in pencil lower right corner. In pristine condition. Image size: 35 5/8 x 23 ½ inches. An early masterpiece by Jim Dine, one of America's greatest artists. Jim Dine is regarded as one of the greatest artists of the twentieth century. In the late 1950's and early 1960's he gained public attention in New York with his Happenings and mixed media assemblages, but his real acclaim followed through his association with the Pop art movement. An innovative and versatile artist, Dine works in a multitude of mediums including painting, sculpture, photography, and printmaking. As a printmaker, he displays an uncommon love of the art form and a penchant for innovative printmaking techniques. He commonly combines etching, drypoint, mezzotint, lithography and woodcut to create complicated images, which resonate with a sense of drama and hidden meaning. He utilizes a myriad of unconventional hand and machine tools, which he uses on the plate and sometimes directly on the paper. As with this print, Dine often recycles his plates to create new or altered images that often display a ghost image of the first work. Dine's oeuvre focuses on isolated objects, which act as the stand-in of autobiography. Hearts, statues, robes, and flowers become metaphors for Dine's life experiences and his visual quest for the self. This important print is the first of three prints, Hand Colored Flowers (1977), Black and White Flowers (1977), and Red Ochre Flowers (1978), which Dine made from the same plate. In creating this print, Dine used a staggering array of different engraving techniques to create a heavily worked plate. In addition to soft-ground etching, hard-ground etching, aquatint, and drypoint, Dine used a mezzotint rocker as an engraving tool and to raise burr. The plate was cut down for the two later states and a die-grinder was used to change the shape of the vase and the details of the bouquets. According to D'Oench, the dense plate work and heavy inking is typical of the prints editioned with Mitchell and Friedman, Dine's primary American printer between 1975 and 1979. This haunting image is an important early print by Dine and a wonderful expression of his artistic genius. It is rarely seen on the market, making it a true collector's item. D'Oench and Feinberg, Jim Dine Prints 1977-1985 , p. 1-38, 61, no. 1, state i/iii; Carpenter, Jim Dine Prints 1985-2000: A Catalogue Raisonné , no. 31.

Exemplaren.

Collection of photographs from 11 Andy Warhol films, 1965-1974

Various cities: Andy Warhol Films Syn-Frank Enterprises Levitt-Pickman Film Corporation Concorde Film Constantin-Film New World Pictures EMI, 1977. Substantial collection of photo advertisement for 11 of Andy Warhol's films, including every film release between "Flesh" (1968) and "Bad" (1974), as well as a single rare example from "My Hustler" (1965). The collection includes 178 photographs, 2 international posters, and a color transparency preview slide. Represented is a fascinating cross-section of advertising styles, including the US releases, a set of stills from The Netherlands (one of the first to distribute Warhol internationally) that have the blindstamp of the Netherlands censorship board, and German stills in their original mailing envelopes, easily the most visceral of the three. Collectively the photographs convey the many LGBT themes of Warhol's films, as well as their qualities of abstraction, detachment, and absurdity. A breakdown of the collection follows: My Hustler (1965): Vintage single weight black and white photograph, with contemporary notations on the verso. 8 x 10 inches (20 x 25 cm). Near Fine. Flesh (1968): Two-color German lobby set of 22 photos. 9.75 x 12 inches (24 x 30 cm). In the original two-color Constantin-Film sack envelope. L'amour (1973): 23 single weight black and white photographs, each with a white margin, each with the CONCORDE FILM logo present in the original negative, and each with a blindstamp from the Centrale Commissie voor de Filmkeuring (a Dutch committee responsible for censoring films in the Netherlands, between 1928 and 1977). It is important to note that upon release, "L'amour" had only two distributors: Altura Films International in the US, and Concorde in The Netherlands. 8 x 10 inches (20 x 25 cm), Very Good to Near Fine.         SEARCH AND DESTROY Nos. 1-11 [Complete Run] [with]: RE/SEARCH 1-3

San Francisco: Search and Destroy / Rough Trade, 1977-1979 and 1980-1981. First Edition. Wraps. Near fine. Tabloid on newsprint. All folded once, as issued. Generally very good or better with some toning and some splitting here and there at folds. Occasional soil and chipping. Else a set clean and sound overall. Most issues 16-28pp. Heavily illustrated throughout with B&W photographs. Complete run of "the most ambitious publication of the entire punk press" (Berniere & Primois 218). Founded by Vale Hamanaka while work- ing at City Lights Bookstore and originally funded by Ferlinghetti and Allen Ginsberg, SEARCH & DESTROY was (according to Jello Biafra) "the greatest underground zine I've ever seen [...] where the definition of punk rock was much wider" (quoted 219). Named for the Stooge's an- them, SEARCH AND DESTROY remains one of the most important, vibrant, and influential periodicals to emerge from punk. Includes features, interviews, photos, and like from all the major (and many minor) punk figures in both the UK and US: Sex Pistols, The Ramones, Pere Ubu, Crime, Dead Kennedys, Patti Smith, Screamers, Clash, Throbbing Gristle, Buzzcocks, Talking Heads, Devo, Weirdos, and Suicide. SEARCH AND DESTROY also served as a bridge between the punk scene and the literary/visual artists who both influenced and were influenced by punk: Ginsberg, Burroughs, Ballard, Acker, John Waters, David Lynch, Bruce Conner, Russ Meyer, and like. All issues first printings, with the first issue in its first state (with hand-stamped covers) and #10 and RE/SEARCH 1-3 not the later reprints. Though the zine technically ceased publication with issue #11, it quickly morphed into RE/SEARCH, a magazine which ran for three issues in an identical format and with nearly identical concerns before evolving into a glossy annual. An uncommonly complete run of this seminal punk zine. [Triggs 46].

James Bond, The Spy Who Loved Me.

London, Pan Books 1977, 1977. Spy novel, a paperback original; published simultaneously with a hardcover edition. Slim octavo, pictorial card wrappers. Near fine. SIGNED and INSCRIBED by James Bond actor Roger Moore to half-title 'Best Wishes | Roger Moore 007'.

Robert Adams: Denver: A Photographic Survey of the Metropolitan Area [SIGNED]

Colorado Associated University Press, Boulder, Colorado 1977 - First edition, first printing. Signed in pencil on the title page by Adams. Hardcover. Black cloth-covered boards with title stamped in white on cover and spine; with photographically illustrated dust jacket. Photographs and text by Robert Adams. 124 pp., with 92 black-and-white plates. 9 x 10-3/4 inches. Fine in Very Good dust jacket (sunning to the jacket, endemic to the title). From the publisher: "Denver was once known for the grandeur of its setting and the clarity of its air, but haas more recently gained notoriety for its uncontrolled growth. Among problems, for example, that have accompanied the growth are a rate of violent crime that is now nearly double that of new York, and a smog level routinely exceeding that of Los Angeles. Robert Adams brings to this landscape an acute vision, one that has earned him widespread respect as a photographer.Adams' interest is in areas of the city that are not usually thought memorable -- subdivisions, freeways, shopping centers, and industrial lands. he discovers in these lost scenes an unorthodox beauty, even while establishing in them our failure to create fully humane living conditions. Those concerned with the future of the suburban American West will find this a document of major importance." Signed by Author. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]
