Facsimiles of the Red Books for Anthony House, Cornwall; Attingham Park, Shropshire; and Sheringham Hall, Norfolk; with An Explanatory Volume by Edward Malins.

London: Basilisk Press, 1976. Bound by Zaehnsdorf. No.10 of 500 numbered sets. 4 volumes, 3 being facsimiles and the fourth being an explanatory volume. Profusely illustrated excellently produced colour facsimiles of watercolour drawings and manuscript with overlay slips and flaps printed in collotype and letterpress and photographs by Eric de Mare. One folio volume, the rest being oblong 4to. This set has been specially bound for the owner by Zaehnsdorf in very handsome full red morocco with gilt lettering on the spine and upper cover, the explanatory volume is in the original half calf with beige cloth sides. A superb set. These three particular Red Books of Repton's designs were chosen because they mark important periods in his career and had a particular influence on English landscape gardening. The handwritten and illustrated volumes were made by Repton to show his clients the proposed improvements to their properties. He also used them to explain his theories on landscape gardening which he later expanded in his three printed books. Many of the watercolour drawing shave overlays showing first the site as it was and then, after opening the flap, how it would appear after Repton's improvements. The photographs in the explanatory volume take this a stage further by showing how they appear today. This specially bound set belonged to one of the initial subscribers to the project, the noted collector Hugh Fattorini. His bookplate is in each volume.

"This unique and wonderful book of poems introduces not only a splendid new poet but a whole new adventure in poetry. Its subject is the planets in our solar system, and there are scientifically accurate poems written for each of them, as well as for the moon, the comet Kohoutek, asteroids and strange voyages -- to the stars, the bottom of the sea, through the human body and into the mind."         The Collected Essays of Sir Winston Churchill, complete in four volumes

London: Library of Imperial History, 1976. First edition. Hardcover. This exceptional set of Churchill’s Collected Essays is the best-preserved example of the vellum bindings we have offered. This four-volume set is a compilation of most of Churchill's major forewords and periodical contributions, some of which can be otherwise found only in the original periodical publications. The essays are sorted by subject and each of the volumes has a theme - Churchill and War, Churchill and Politics, Churchill and People, and Churchill at Large. In addition to being bibliographically important, The Collected Essays are aesthetically appealing. The production quality is impressive. There were two publisher binding options for The Collected Essays - both sumptuous and one positively extravagant. The lesser of the two was bound in quarter blue morocco and is lovely, but does not match the other 34 volumes of The Collected Works. The more elaborate binding option was full natural calfskin vellum with individual green slipcases, matching the 34 volumes of the preceding Centenary Edition of Churchill's book-length works. The bindings feature Churchill's coat of arms stamped in gilt. The text is printed on special 500-year archival paper and decorated with marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, head and foot bands, and silk ribbon markers. Each volume is protected in a dark green leather slipcase with the Churchill coat of arms embossed in gilt on the front cover. Either binding of The Collected Essays is scarce, but this more elaborate binding is rarely seen alone, as it is essential to completing a uniform full set of The Collected Works. The vellum bindings were meant to tone and age naturally, but often yellow both considerably and unevenly. This particular set is the most attractive we have offered, with unusually bright vellum bindings with minimal toning that, when evident, has served only to highlight the natural features of the binding skins. Condition of the set appears flawless. The bindings are pristine with no signs of handling, perfectly square and tight with sharp corners and no visible wear. The contents are likewise immaculate, crisp and apparently unread, with satin ribbon markers apparently still in the original position placed by the publisher. We find no previous ownership marks. The gilt page edges are vividly bright with no discernible flaws noted. The green leather slipcases remain truly fine, with no bumps or visible signs of use other than some trivial shelfwear to the bottom edges. An exceptional example of an important work, with both compelling contents and striking shelf presence. Bibliographic reference: Cohen A286, Woods/ICS A146(b), Langworth p.355.

        Un jour -

Au Seuil 1976 -, Paris - 1 volume. In-8 218 pp. Sous étui bordé. Reliure demi-maroquin fauve à encadrement. Dos lisse avec date dorée au talon. Tête dorée. Couvertures et dos conservés. Reliure signée J. P. MIGUET. Exemplaire très séduisant. EDITION ORIGINALE. Hallucinogenic Plants: A Golden Guide (Hardcover)

Golden Press, New York 1976 - First printing of the very scarce hardcover edition, one of only a few we have seen. Printing line starts at "A", as required. 160 pp., profusely ill. in color, index, 8vo, pictorial hardcover. This hardcover edition is about double the size of the more common little paperback, and is printed on better quality paper, hence the text and illustrations are much clearer. NOT an ex-library copy, very rare thus. No owner's marks, no tears, no significant wear, just very slight touch of bumping to the tips. A superb copy. It is unlikely that a nicer copy is available anywhere. [Attributes: First Edition; Soft Cover]

Even Cowgirls Get The Blues (signed 1st printing)

Houghton Mifflin, New York 1976 - Houghton Mifflin. New York. 1976. 365 pages. NF+/NF+ 1st Edition, first printing. SIGNED by Tom Robbins directly to the title page; signature only. Quarter bound with turquoise blue cloth with a white binding. $10.95 price is intact on the DJ flap. The book is just about perfect. Tight, crisp, bright and unread. The only flaw holding the book back from As-New status is a tiny fray hair on the upper corner tip of one panel. For all intents and purposes, it could be trimmed off if you so choose. The only thing keeping the crisp and bright DJ from grading As-New is a tiny closed tear to DJ edge. This is an absolutely stunning first printing of the cult classic and Tom Robbins' most in demand title. Signed by Tom Robbins. Beautiful. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]
