        Croquis Plate 57

Paris: Christian Dior, 1975. Ink, watercolor and gouache on xerograph. Fabric swatch attached with staples, handwritten note directly on sheet. Sheet measures 13" x 9". This original croquis from the designer Christian Dior features a dress from the Summer 1975 collection. This croquis was made from a xerograph of an original drawing, which was then hand-colored with ink, watercolor, and gouache. The design shows a long yellow dress with a matching cape and a deep neckline. Five swatches of the appropriate fabrics--green, yellow, red, blue, and lime muslin, are stapled to the sheet. These sketches were produced in a limited quantity and presented to potential clients in attendance at the Paris Couture shows held by Dior in the spring and fall of each year. This example is in good condition and makes a wonderful document for any lover of fashion.

        Baltics; Translated by Samuel Charters

Oyez, Berkeley 1975 - 8vo, unpag.; printed green wrappers. This copy has been boldly inscribed by Tranströmer on the first blank for fellow poet Christopher Middleton with the addition of an elaborately stylized letter "W" (which Tranströmer sometimes did in homage to his grandfather, whose name was Westerberg). He has also added textual corrections and glosses by hand to four pages of the poem. With the publisher's two-page press release and portrait photo of the poet loosely inserted. Tranströmer received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2011, four years before his death. Bump to the spine, just about fine. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Soft Cover]

Dessin original érotique [Coït] (titre non contractuel)

      - Sans date, sans lieu [vers 1975 ?] Dessin original sur papier teinté. Stylo noir, craie blanche, rouge.

The Poor Mouth (An Béal Bacht). A bad story about the hard life.

London: Published by Bernard Jacobson Ltd., 1973, 1975. Edited by Myles na Gopaleen (Flann O'Brien). Tanslated by Patrick C. Power, and illustrated by Ralph Steadman. Quarto. Original rough broad-weave cloth (resembling sacking), lettered in black on the front cover using Steadman's calligraphy, map endpapers. Pictorial double-page title-page, illustrated throughout by Ralph Steadman. Neat library stamp of Denis Anthony Collins on recto of rear free endpaper. An excellent copy. First edition in English, number 44 of 130 copies signed in pencil by the artist at the head of the title page and in the lower margin of the original aquatint (loosely inserted). Also inscribed flamboyantly across the half-title: "With best wishes from Ralph Steadman", accompanied by signature ink splashes and a thumbnail portrait of a dejected individual. The wonderful original print shows the hero's father and Martin O'Bannassa "sitting on top of the hen-house, gazing at the sky to judge the weather and also chatting honestly and quietly about the difficulties of life". "This celebrated satirical work, An Béal Bocht, first published [in Gaelic] in 1941, is here translated for the first time under the title of The Poor Mouth? [O'Brien] comments mercilessly on Irish life? The key-words in this work are surely 'downpour', 'eternity' and 'potatoes' set against a background of squalor and poverty" (Patrick C. Power in his Translator's Preface).

Photo Album]: Photograph Album of Motorcycles

(Columbus, Ohio) 1975 - Quarto. Measuring approximately 12" x 10". Spiral bound padded commercial album with floral print polyester covered boards. Ten leaves, each with photographs mounted on verso and recto for a total of 80 color snapshots, each measuring 4.5" x 3.5". Small dent to outer edge of the rear board, affecting edges of the final two leaves, otherwise clean and well preserved, else fine. Diverse assembly of mid-1970s motorcycle and bike culture images. Based on internal evidence the images were most likely captured during and around the 1975 Charity Newsies Motorcycle Race. Held annually on the half-mile oval dirt track at the Ohio State Fairgrounds in Columbus, Ohio from 1939-1980, the American Motorcycle Association sanctioned 100-lap event was considered one of the premiere stops on the United States flat track motorcycle racing circuit. The event often drew a crowd of more than 20,000. In 1981 it was discontinued after repeated annual reports of public drunkenness and illegal drag racing among the spectators in the days leading up to the race. The 1970 event was prominently featured in the Academy Award nominated film *On Any Sunday,* a documentary produced by Bruce Brown and Steve McQueen. In 1990 the racing grandstand shown here was condemned and the track razed. Among the 80 images are many detailed shots of choppers, trikes, and lots of tricked-out, custom paint jobs. Japanese and American bikes are given near equal time by the photographer and the relaxed spectator images seem to belie the image of the Charity Newsies attendees which led to the race's demise.
