This is Henry, Henry Miller from Brooklyn: Conversations with the Author from The Henry Miller Odyssey

Los Angeles: Nash Publishing. (1974). First. First edition. Quarto. Fine in very good plus dustwrapper with one longish tear. Inscribed by Miller to his second wife June Mansfield: "For June, Merry Xmas! Henry 1974." Mansfield was perhaps Miller's most important influence, and his muse for most of his earliest and most famous works. In the text of this book Miller relates: "...I was married a few years when I finally ran into 'Mona,' in my books, you know, in the dance hall, and we were caught in bed one morning when I thought my wife had gone on a vacation... So I left her immediately and went to live with June -- 'Mona.' And it was through my new wife that I got the courage to make my final decisions and to live by them... she used to say to me, 'Look, give up that job; Start to write.'" A nice association. .

Corner bumped, else an excellent copy in a near fine dust jacket. Also included is the National Book Award Program which included Morrision presented Norman Mailer with the Lifetime Achievment Award. A very nice signed copy. Nominated for the National Book Award, Sula exemplifies the mysteries of death, friendship, and poverty, and its rare economy in writing is met with critical acclaim and popular success, establishing Morrison as one of the 20th century's most significant novelists. Sara Blackburn wrote that Morrison's extravagantly beautiful, doomed characters are locked in a world where hope for the future is a foreign commodity, yet they are enormously, achingly alive." And Morrison's writing is "[e]xtravagantly beautiful. . . . Enormously, achingly alive. . . . A howl of love and rage, playful and funny as well as hard and bitter" (The New York Times).

        Schweizer Berg.

1998 NZZ, Zurich, and SIK, Zurich / Lausanne. 3100 gr. [Attributes: Signed Copy]

Typed Poem and Autograph Note Signed to Alan Helms

Four line Typed Poem, "The Poem That Self-Destructs," below which is a note to author and model Alan Helms: "Allen [sic], Thanks for inviting me to your party. I wrote the above -- a seedling -- while at the party and felt you should have it. The girl is actual -- tall, blond hair, black trousers, white shirt. The moment of Poetry is important. Never spoke to her. Take care. Best, Gerard." The poem, needless to say, is about the face of a beautiful girl. Dated in Boston in 1974.         Untitled

[New York: Privately published, 1974]. Near fine condition.. Collection of 20 8 1/2 x 10 3/4 inch loose prints, produced in an edition of 20, of which this number 6; all numbered and signed by Whitman. Most images depict what appear to be sliced oranges laid on the glass of a photocopier. Different fruits are paired with different settings on the photocopier, creating wildly saturated and colorful images. Whitman, represented by Pace, has had a long and distinguished career as an artist. He was an active figure in the New York avant garde, creating and staging Happenings alongside Allen Kaprow, Lucas Samaras, and Claes Oldenburg.

Atlas Okeanov. Soviet War Department Marine Atlases.

1974 - 1980 1974 - Three elephant folio volumes produced by the USSR War Department [Ministerstvo oborony Sovetskogo Soyuza], with volumes on the Pacific (1974) [Tikhiy okean], the Atlantic (1977) [Atlanticheskogo i Indiyskogo okeanov] and the Arctic Ocean (1980) [Arkticheskiy sever led okeana]. The Arctic Ocean was a front line in the Cold War following the second world war due to its strategic location between the United States and the USSR. The Soviets established a program of drifting stations and research stations, (30 operated from 1958 to 1975) which collected data important today to further the understanding of climate change in the Arctic. The Russian Northern Fleet also operated nuclear vessels in the Arctic, dumping spent nuclear fuel there. Interesting volumes for the highly detailed data collected. Volumes measure 14 x 18 inches wide. Black gilt stamped cloth with gilt titles at spines. Cream dj with titles in blue at front covers and spines. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
