THE FOREVER WAR - INSCRIBED TO JERRY WEIST

St. Martin's Press, New York 1974 - First Printing. The book is very near Fine, with a handful of foxed spots at the right edge of the textblock and the top edge slighly dusty. Jacket is a Near Fine example, with the $7.95 price unclipped and some minor rubbing to the spine ends and corner tips to note. Minor touch-up to the rubbed areas, else a sharp, attractive copy of a cheaply made St. Martin's title. Haldeman has inscribed this copy on the title page to author and noted science fiction collector Jerry Weist: 'This copy of the Forever War is for Jerry, at WorldCon 2011 - Joe Haldeman.' Included with this copy is a color photograph of the author and two unidentified women holding a copy of 'The Forever War' at a November 1999 event.         Sula

New York: Knopf, 1974. First edition of the author's second novel. Octavo, original orange cloth. Signed by Morrison on the title page. Corner bumped, else an excellent copy in a near fine dust jacket. Also included is the National Book Award Program which included Morrision presented Norman Mailer with the Lifetime Achievment Award. A very nice signed copy. Nominated for the National Book Award, Sula exemplifies the mysteries of death, friendship, and poverty, and its rare economy in writing is met with critical acclaim and popular success, establishing Morrison as one of the 20th century's most significant novelists. Sara Blackburn wrote that Morrison's extravagantly beautiful, doomed characters are locked in a world where hope for the future is a foreign commodity, yet they are enormously, achingly alive." And Morrison's writing is "[e]xtravagantly beautiful. . . . Enormously, achingly alive. . . . A howl of love and rage, playful and funny as well as hard and bitter" (The New York Times).

        Schweizer Berg.

1998 NZZ, Zurich, and SIK, Zurich / Lausanne. 3100 gr. [Attributes: Signed Copy]

Typed Poem and Autograph Note Signed to Alan Helms

Four line Typed Poem, "The Poem That Self-Destructs," below which is a note to author and model Alan Helms: "Allen [sic], Thanks for inviting me to your party. I wrote the above -- a seedling -- while at the party and felt you should have it. The girl is actual -- tall, blond hair, black trousers, white shirt. The moment of Poetry is important. Never spoke to her. Take care. Best, Gerard." The poem, needless to say, is about the face of a beautiful girl. Dated in Boston in 1974. A couple of small coffee stains have very slightly smeared a couple of letters, else near fine. Alan Helms was a handsome model who turned into an academic and wrote an autobiography of his ascendance in the New York gay scene. .

Collection of 20 8 1/2 x 10 3/4 inch loose prints, produced in an edition of 20, of which this number 6; all numbered and signed by Whitman. Different fruits are paired with different settings on the photocopier, creating wildly saturated and colorful images. Whitman, represented by Pace, has had a long and distinguished career as an artist. He was an active figure in the New York avant garde, creating and staging Happenings alongside Allen Kaprow, Lucas Samaras, and Claes Oldenburg.

The Soviets established a program of drifting stations and research stations, (30 operated from 1958 to 1975) which collected data important today to further the understanding of climate change in the Arctic. The Russian Northern Fleet also operated nuclear vessels in the Arctic, dumping spent nuclear fuel there. Interesting volumes for the highly detailed data collected. Volumes measure 14 x 18 inches wide. Black gilt stamped cloth with gilt titles at spines. Cream dj with titles in blue at front covers and spines. [Attributes: Hard Cover]

Verschiedene Formate. Die Photographie i. F. 201:125 mm. This is not what I consider a final draft of Gigi, by any means, for there is plenty of work to be done on it. But I do feel it is at a stage where I should proceed according to the ideas of the director. My own concept of the play is that the whole thing should be in the mood of a rather naughty Valentine and that it must definitely have a girl in the title role who can emerge as a star. (Mind you, I do think that the part will give any actress plenty of scope and opportunity.) Another idea I have is this - - If it were a possibility that Bethel Leslie could play Gigi, it might also be a possibility that Helen Hayes would play Aunt Alicia. I know that Helen has been considering to do a play with Bethel, should the right one come along. So this might be it [.]" (a. d. Br. v. 3. IV. 1951). (2½ SS. auf 3 Bll.): "Love to my twin brother from | Anita". - Aus der Sammlung Charles Williamson und Tucker Fleming.         Zehn Kleine Meckerlein

(Haarlem: Carlinapers, 1974). Tall, narrow octavo. (20)pp. One of forty copies. A reprint of the original 1943 edition, which was also published in a limited edition of forty copies. In this poignant satirical variation on the "Ten Little Indians" nursery rhyme, originating from a German concentration camp during the Holocaust, the "Meckerlein" or "nuisances" are those who oppose the Nazis. They disappear one by one, only to be reunited in the end inside the Oranienburg concentration camp. The pages are printed with bold typography that is oriented horizontally across the page spread. Fine in stiff green wrappers with a tonal pattern and a printed paper label.

Galley Proofs for "Something Nothing"; Hone Tuwhare's fourth collection of poetry.

Caveman Press (1974), Dunedin - Corrected galley proofs for Hone Tuwhare's fourth book of poetry, "Something Nothing". This title was published in Dunedin by the Caveman Press in 1974. Loose long galley leaves, dimensions: 152 x 456 mm. The leaves are printed on one side only. The leaves are held loosely within cloth boards with ties and a printed paper label on the front board. The manuscript corrections consist of the removal of the comma from "Something, Nothing" at each occurence, and changes to the page numbering. There are also a few handwritten notes (presumably made by the Caveman Press publisher Trevor Reeves) on the first leaf. The proofs do not have the contents page or the copyright page, but there is a note that the contents page is to be made in the same style as that used in "Sapwood and Milk". The illustrations by Robin White, which appear in the final published book, are not included. There are a few stains to the first few leaves, and some rubbing and wear to the corners of some leaves. "Something Nothing" has some of Tuwhare's best poems, including "Ron Mason", written after the death of RAK Mason. Several poems from "Something Nothing" were used in later anthologies of Tuwhare's poems: "Selected Poems" (1980) had seven poems from Something Nothing (along with 20 from No Ordinary Sun, 5 from Come Rain Hail, 5 from Sapwood and Milk, and 2 from Making a Fist of It.) In "Year of the Dog, Poems New and Selected"(1982), 12 of the 32 poems were from Something Nothing. In "Was Wirklicher ist als Sterben" (1985), 5 of the 33 poems were from Something Nothing. ; Folio [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
