Italian Sixteenth Century Books. Harvard College Library Department of Printing & Graphic Arts Catalogue

Cambridge, MA: Belknap Press of Harvard University Press, 1974. FIRST EDITION. Fine. Two volumes, small folio. Uniformly bound in contemporary brown calf, spines gilt, all edges gilt, silk moire pastedowns and endpapers, silk bookmarks. Original black card slipcase. Beautifully bound copy of Ruth Mortimer's still-unsurpassed bibliography of Italian sixteenth-century books in Houghton Library, Harvard. Our copy is in freakishly brand-new condition: the paper stock is glowingly bright; the gilt edges and the leather bindings are in brilliant state. Both volumes are preserved in the same black slipcase as other copies noted by us. Clearly the text has never been read, a veritable anomaly given the significance of Mortimer's indispensible text, which is so frequently and diligently consulted by bibliographers everywhere. Mortimer here describes and illustrates 599 items, each with extremely detailed collations and authoritative notes, in many instances presented for the first time; the work is further enhanced by extensive indices of artists, printers and publishers, place of imprint, chronological and subject headings. Our communications with Martin Antonetti (Curator of the Mortimer Rare Book Room at Smith College) and John Lancaster (husband of the late Ms. Mortimer) revealed that a deluxe issue of Mortimer's indispensible text was probably never published. And so what exactly is this? The answer is obvious to the true bibliophile who understands that bibliographical works in fine bindings are among the most elusive, yet most gratifying joys of life.

Ten days before he resigned, President Nixon congratulates a supportive Republican Congressman and his wife who will be celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary three weeks later

Washington, D.C., July 30, 1974 Typed Letter Signed ?RN? as President, 1 page, 6.75? x 9?. On pale green White House stationery with blind embossed presidential seal at top center. To Congressman and Mrs. C.W. Bill Young, St. Petersburg, Florida. Fine condition. In full, ?Dear Marian and Bill: Pat and I were delighted to learn that you will be celebrating your twenty-fifth wedding anniversary on August 20. We would like to join with your family and friends in expressing our heartfelt congratulations to you. Your life together gives eloquent testimony to the great good that can come when two people with love for one another -- and with shared ideals -- commit themselves to one another. With our warm wishes always ...? It may seem strange that the President would send a congratulatory letter to Congressman and Mrs. Young three weeks before their August 20th silver wedding anniversary. But Nixon had undoubtedly seen that day?s ?Washington Post? banner headline ?2d Impeachment Article Voted? (8.5? x 11? photocopy included) and, perhaps, wanted to make sure that Congressman Young knew how he felt about him while he was still President. A month earlier, in ?The Washington Post,? in an article headlined ?Prejudgment Charge Is Rejected by Rodino,? House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rodino denied that he had said that all 21 Committee Democrats were prepared to vote to impeach Nixon. Young was quoted in the article: ??Maybe a scenario has been worked out in advance,?? suggested Rep. C.W. (Bill) Young (R-Fla.).? Republican Charles William (Bill) Young represented Florida in the House of Representatives from 1971-2014. At the time of his death, he was the senior Republican in Congress, having served over 42 years. Young was a delegate to the Republican National Conventions which nominated Nixon in 1968 and 1972, Ford in 1976, and Reagan in 1984.

Luz y agua. Versión castellana Victoria Ocampo. Libero Badii Grabados-Diagramación, Buenos Aires, (Imprenta Anzilotti), 1974.
