Original manuscript for "Knocking 'Round the Zoo"

Original manuscript for a draft of legendary singer-songwriter James Taylor's early song, "Knockin' Around the Zoo," composed shortly after his stay at the Belmont Psychiatric Hospital for severe depression when he was 17 years old. To the best of our knowledge, this is the earliest known handwritten Taylor lyric to have ever appeared for sale. The lyric was written out for John Herald, who was playing in Taylor's early, short-lived band, The Flying Machine, during recording sessions for Euphoria Records. The unfinished tracks from those sessions, little more than demos, were shelved until 1971, when they were released by Euphoria as "James Taylor and the Original Flying Machine," after the success of Taylor's 1970 solo album "Sweet Baby James." "Knockin' Around the Zoo" is a droll but angry look at Taylor's depression and subsequent hospitalization at a mental institution, a theme later made poignant in Taylor's breakout hit "Fire and Rain" from that album. The holograph additions made in this particular manuscript are present in both recorded versions of the song, which also appears on Taylor's first solo record, "James Taylor" (Apple Records, 1968). Other lines in this draft do not appear on either version of the song, and are unique to this manuscript. A historically important and unique piece from one of the greatest and most influential singer-songwriters in rock history. John Herald is a legendary folk musician whose roots go back to the late 1950s bluegrass scene. He was a major player in the Greenwich Village folk scene of the early 1960s, where he attended jam sessions with the likes of Bob Dylan, Rory Block and Ramblin' Jack Elliott. In addition to the long-term association with his band The Greenbriar Boys, he has recorded with Jack Elliott and Doc Watson, managed bluegrass legend Bill Monroe, and written songs recorded by Linda Rondstadt, Jonathan Edwards, Maria Muldaur and Joan Baez. 8 x10 inches, somewhat worn and slightly foxed manuscript lyric sheet hand-printed in lined paper in bold pencil, with several holograph corrections. Letter of provenance from John Herald included. In a custom quarter-leather clamshell box.

Großformat!!! Französisches orginal Werbeplakat James Bond - Les Diamants sont Eternels (Diamonds are forever) i,

1971 - Size: 63 x 47 inches = 160 x 119 cm!!!! Diamonds Are Forever (1971) is the seventh spy film in the James Bond series by Eon Productions, and the sixth and final Eon film to star Sean Connery as the fictional MI6 agent James Bond. The film is based on Ian Fleming's 1956 novel of the same name, and is the second of four James Bond films directed by Guy Hamilton. The story has Bond impersonating a diamond smuggler to infiltrate a smuggling ring, and soon uncovering a plot by his old nemesis Ernst Stavro Blofeld to use the diamonds to build a giant laser. Bond has to battle his nemesis for one last time, in order to stop the smuggling and stall Blofeld's plan of destroying Washington DC, and extorting the world with nuclear supremacy. After George Lazenby left the franchise, producers Harry Saltzman and Albert R. Broccoli tested other actors, but studio United Artists wanted Sean Connery back, paying a then-record $1.25 million salary for him to return. The producers were inspired by Goldfinger, eventually hiring that film's director, Guy Hamilton. Locations included Las Vegas, California, Amsterdam and Lufthansa's hangar in Germany. Diamonds Are Forever was a commercial success, but received criticism for its humorous camp tone. First Edition. First Printing, one of 250 numbered copies signed by the author, this being copy no.162. Octavo; 3/4 pale blue paper over quarter red, white and blue star-spangled cloth, with titling and decorations printed in red and dark blue on front panel and printed spine label at spine; publisher's original acetate dustjacket; 115pp, [4]. Touch of faint, scattered foxing to upper edge of textblock and upper board edges, with a just a hint of sunning to spine; Near Fine. Together with the rare publisher's prospectus, measuring 5.5 X 7 inches, letterpress printed in navy blue and red on light blue paperstock; single 1.5" tear, with ten unnecessary pieces of tape expertly removed from the margins; Very Good+. 'Post Office' was Bukowski's first novel, an autobiographical work based on his years spent as a postal clerk and mail carrier in Los Angeles. He left his job there when John Martin offered him $100 a week for life if he wrote for his fledgling Black Sparrow Press. Martin, after publishing Bukowski's poetry in a number of chapbooks, asked him to consider writing a novel; allegedly, the novel was written in a 21 night booze-soaked blaze of glory. The cornerstone for any serious Bukowski collection, and at 250 copies, there never really were enough of these to go around. Krumhansl 38b.

THE ALEPH AND OTHER STORIES 1933-1969 - UNCORRECTED PROOF COPY IN TRIAL DUSTJACKET

London: Jonathan Cape, 1971. First Edition. New/very good +. First Printing. A Fine copy of the uncorrected proof in a Very Good+ example of the trial dustjacket. The book is bound in red wrappers with a white publisher's label printed in black. The jacket measures 3/8" taller than the proof, resulting in some creasing along the upper edge, as well as a short, closed tear at the upper corner of the front hinge. A touch of light wear to the extremities, otherwise an attractive example. The words PROOF ONLY are printed along the edge of the rear jacket flap, and this version differs in a number of ways from the jacket used on the First Hardcover Edition. An impressive collection of 20 stories by this titan of Latin American literature, and the only example of this proof copy we've seen in the trial dustjacket.

President Nixon thanks a Congressman for defeating an amendment to a military procurement bill that, if passed, ? ... would seriously jeopardize the progress we are making in ending American involvement in Vietnam and in achieving a just peace ??

Washington, D.C., June 24, 1971. 7" x 10.5". "Typed Letter Signed ?RN? as President, 1 page, 7? x 10.5?. The White House, Washington, D.C., June 24, 1971. To Congressman C.W. (Bill) Young (R-Florida). Blind embossed with the presidential seal at top center. Light mounting remnants on verso. Fine condition. On June 17, 1971, an amendment to the military procurement bill that would have provided that none of the funds authorized in the measure could be used to support U.S. forces in Indochina after December 31, 1971, was defeated in the House by a vote of 254-158. It was offered by Michigan Democrat Lucien N. Nedzi and Ohio Republican Charles W. Whalen, Jr. The McGovern-Hatfield Amendment to a Selective Service bill was the Senate counterpart to the House Nedzi-Whalen Amendment. It was defeated 55-42 a day earlier. In this letter, President Nixon thanks Congressman Young for his vote. In part, ?This action by the House of Representatives helped materially to strengthen the efforts of this Administration to achieve a cease-fire, the release of American prisoners, and the negotiation of a just peace ... While we continue to reduce American forces in Indochina, various proposals may be advanced in Congress similar to Nedzi-Whalen. Their adoption would seriously jeopardize the progress we are making in ending American involvement in Vietnam and in achieving a just peace ...?Republican Charles William (Bill) Young (1930-2013) represented Florida in the House of Representatives from 1971 until his death in 2013. He was a delegate to the Republican National Conventions which nominated Nixon in 1968 and 1972, Ford in 1976, and Reagan in 1984. Young served as Chairman of the powerful House Appropriations Committee for six years, during the last two years of the Bill Clinton presidency and G.W. Bush's first term as President, 1999-2005. At the time of his death, he was the longest serving Republican in Congress."
