        Play It Again, Sam

New York: Random House, 1969. First edition. Octavo, original half cloth. Signed by Woody Allen on the title page. Near fine in an excellent dust jacket with some light wear.Hilarious...a cheerful romp. Not only are Mr. Allen's jokes and their follow ups, asides and twists audaciously brilliant, but he has a great sense of character" (The New York Times).

Principados y Potestades de Shows y Publico

Mexico City: Librería Madero, 1969. A few spots of foxing toward the bottom of the front cover, still a crisp, near fine copy in green and black illustrated wrappers. (The copy photographed in The Latin American Photobook is yellow; no priority has been established.). First Edition. Narrow quarto. Widely regarded as one of the most important Pop photobooks of Latin America, with a wonderful graphic sensibility by designer Vicente Rojo. Photographer Héctor García contributes photographs and montages of Mexican rock festivals and happenings, and writer Carlos Monsivais provides the avant-garde text. (The Latin American Photobook, 234.) No copies in OCLC; this is first example I have seen.

I KNOW WHY THE CAGED BIRD SINGS (signed)

Random House, New York 1969 - Random House 1969. New York 8vo 281 pages. SIGNED / INSCRIBED by Maya Angelou directly to the second half-title page. Gift inscription by Angelou: ___ __'s Beloved Joy! Maya Angelou. First edition, first printing as copyright page states first edition and also has a full numberline beginning with 2. However, there is no red/magenta top-stain which is required for the true preferred 1st printing. Additionally, this copy has a blind impression on the lower corner on rear panel thus regarded as either a bookclub edition or a leftover/remainder copy. There is no remainder marker or spray on bottom page edges. DJ price has mostly been clipped as only the $ symbol is left on the flap. This book would grade fine if not for some textural scuffing to the FFEP. While there is no staining to the FFEP, from experience it appears that a bookplate was likely removed as the paper is rough in a few spots. The book would grade Near Fine should you choose to add your own bookplate or gift bookplate on this spot. Minor wear at corner tips. Black cloth is bright and clean. Pages are tight and bright. DJ is bright and attractive with only minor rubs/soiling. Book appears unread. This is a very nice, tight and clean copy, signed and inscribed by Maya Angelou. Better than VG++. A Very Near Fine copy of the first American edition, first printing (some spotting to the topstain, minor spot to front free endpaper -- otherwise Fine), in a Very Near Fine dust jacket (light wear to the spine ends, small spot to the rear panel), SIGNED BY J. M. G. LE CLÉZIO on the half-title and there fittingly inscribed by him as follows: "a voyage imaginaire / avec le merci / de JMG le Clezio"; le Clézio's third novel, a tale centered on Chancelade, a man who, from childhood to death, sees his life in minute detail. J. M. G. le Clézio' won the 1963 Prix Renaudot for his novel debut novel "Le Procès-Verbal" (published in English as "The Interrogation"), and the 2008 Nobel Prize in Literature as an "author of new departures, poetic adventure and sensual ecstasy, explorer of a humanity beyond and below the reigning civilization". Of "terra amata, the Wall Street Journal stated (in 2008, after le Clézio had published over 36 books ) "...Mr. Le Clézio's most impressive book may be a brief one he published at age 27, when he was still a combative modernist. "Terra Amata," translated into English in 1967, combines his game-playing as the author with a savage lyricism reminiscent of Thomas Hardy." We have not seen any other signed copies of the book in any language. A Very Near Fine copy, SIGNED BY J. M. G. LE CLEZIO. QUITE SCARCE.

        Okinawa, Okinawa, Okinawa (signed)

Tokyo: Shanken, 1969. Tokyo: Shanken, 1969. First Edition. Softcover.. VG+. Small 4to, Unpaginated (ca 160pp). Printed wraps as issued. Numerous Black & White plates. Text in Japanese. A little wear to corners and spine and a little foxing to covers. One of the best copies I've seen, and very scarce when signed. More images available on request. Highly politicised work from Tomatsu and one of his most famous books. "Like most of Tomatsu's books, Okinawa is difficult to categorize. It borrows stylistically from the Provoke school while never losing its focus as a social documentary, yet it would be overly simplistic to lump it in with other Japanese protest books, even those about Okinawa". (Auer) Signed by Tomatsu with dedication to last page.

Damnation Alley (+ Author Signed 1st edition 1970 paperback of same story)

New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1969. New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons. F/NF. 1969. 1st Edition. Hardcover; 1st Printing. LOC: 7795238 . This 2-book package includes the 1st edition/1st printing, G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1969 hardback in dustjacket + the 1970 1st paperback edition (Berkley Medallion Edition, June, 1970, SBN: 425018466). The paperback has been SIGNED by Roger Zelazny on its title page. Will be up to a future owner whether to keep both books together for the signature, or to cut out the signed title page of the paperback to lay into the hardback. The hardback 1st editon/1st printing book is in Fine condition, bound in red cloth with black spine and front panel printing. It is straight, clean, tight (probably unread) with just a touch of cloth softening from shelving to lower spine end and a couple of 'very' tiny flecks (smaller than a very sharp pencil lead) on the page edges. The Near Fine+ dustjacket is crisp, clean, unfaded and price intact. It has a few tiny edge nicks to flap fold ends and upper spine end. A beautiful copy of a hard to find in decent condition 1st edition sci-fi book. The paperback is straight, clean, tight (for sure unread) with what I think were originally yellow page edges that have faded and toned to be almost light tan like the text block paper - and in very small, almost illegible letters (thin outlines only) 'Jun 22 1970' is stamped on the bottom page edges in light green. Aside from the age toning to the text paper and the almost invisible date-stamping, the paperback is in Near Fine condition - no spine creasing, the cover and pages are good but a bit tanned-looking on the page edges, there's a bit of light toning to spine and back panel of the cover - but the title page is not wrinkled (that was me being careful not to stress the spine when I made the image). This story was made into a movie in 1977. The book version is a hard-hitting post-nuclear apocalyptic story that unfortunately for the movie industry's finances was cut and twisted into an unrecognizable mess - but then Star Wars came out in 1977 also so it might not have mattered anyway. ; 8-3/16" x 5-3/4"; 157 pages; Signed by Author .

Chicago, IL: Museum of Contemporary Art, 1969. First Edition. Large Square 4to. 12" Vinyl LP in Jacket. Near Fine./Very Good.. One 12", two-sided vinyl 33 1/3 rpm long playing phonograph record in a printed paper over cardboard gatefold sleeve, 1 b&w illustration. "Shortly after its opening, the Museum of Contemporary Art planned an exhibition to record the trend, incipient then and pervasive today, toward conceptualization of art. This exhibition, scheduled for the spring of 1968 and abandoned because of technical difficulties, consisted of works in different media, conceived by artists in this country and Europe and executed in Chicago on their behalf. The telephone was designated the most fitting means of communication in relaying instructions to those entrusted with fabrication of the artists' projects or enactment of their ideas. To heighten the challenge of a wholly verbal exchange, drawings, blueprints or written descriptions were avoided". Taken from the album jacket, this was curator Jan van der Marck's summation of the infamous Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago "Art by Telephone" show. This is a copy of the 1969 record which reproduces the phone calls of participating artists Siah Armajani, Richard Artschwager, John Baldessari, Iain Baxter, Mel Bochner, George Brecht, Jack Burnham, James Lee Byars, Robert Cumming, Francoise Dallegret, Jan Dibbets, John Giorno, Robert Grosvenor, Hans Haacke, Richard Hamilton, Dick Higgins, Davi Det Hompson, Robert Huot, Alain Jacquet, Edward Kienholz, Joseph Kosuth, Les Levine, Sol LeWitt, Robert Morris, Bruce Nauman, Claes Oldenburg, Dennis Oppenheim, Richard Serra, Robert Smithson, Guenther Uecker, Stan Van Der Beek, Bernar Venet, Frank Lincoln Viner, Wolf Vostell, William Wegman, and William T. Wiley giving instructions to the MCA staff on how to execute their various pieces for this exhibition which alas, went unrealized. A most handsome, unplayed example of the original 1969 pressings and jacket of this uncommon document (cited on page 215 of Guy Schraenen's "Vinyl: Records and Covers by Artists") whose gatefold sleeve shows some light rubbing and minor abrasions to the exterior.         [Complete Set of Three Silk-Screened Posters for Cage's Performance of HPSCHD]

Urbana-Champaign: University of Illinois, 1969 Urbana-Champaign: University of Illinois, 1969. First Edition. Near Fine. Three large original silk-screened posters, each roughly 38" by 28" and on heavy "construction"-like paper. Occasional tiny edge tears. A small chip here and there. Some minute pin holes. Else bright and sharp. Easily near fine or better. HPSCHD (pronounced "harpsicord") was premiered at the Assembly Hall of University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign on May 16, 1969 as the culmination of Cage's artistic residency there. One of the earliest musical works for computer, and ultimately a five-hour multimedia extravaganza, it remains a landmark happening of the 1960's. Cage helped design and produce two of the posters using change operations. The final example, depicting Cage as a dragon slayer, we suspect is the work of a student who'd read too much Tolkien. Fewer than one hundred of each poster were produced, however, and were so popular on campus that most were stolen for dorm display by students. Rare. OCLC locates just one complete set (at the Getty) and no individual examples (though we are aware of an uncatalogued set at Northwestern). A complete set of striking posters documenting a major Fluxus performance and a key event of the 1960's avant garde, one that Richard Kostelanetz called "one of the great artistic environments of the decade" (JOHN CAGE: An Anthology p. 173).
