Small closed tear to outer edge of the cover at the middle. else VG. The 2nd issue of this Underground Comix tabloid newspaper with art by Robert Crumb, Vaughn Bode, Brand, Deitch, Kaluta, Lynch, Spain, Spiegelman, Todd, Trina, Wilson, and others. Bagged for protection with a stiff backing board, will ship flat. Also included is a Bonus 1970 Underground art tabloid, close to the same dimensions as GBW2, it's either coverless, or untitled. It has half page or full page illustrations, many signed 70. 14 pages (6 folded 1 half sheet at the center), 2 pieces of the art are signed by, Dan Barker, Mike Hill, the rest is either indecipherable, or unsigned, it has waterstain to the spine & some minor spotting to the edge. We received them both folded up together. Graded 1.8/10 GOOD- using the Overstreet comic book grading system. Clean cover. Bagged with backing board. Actual photo can be uploaded upon request. Shows substantial wear. Cover reflectivity may be low or absent. Book-length creases and dimples may be present. Rounded corners are more common.         The Lords / Notes on Vision

      Private Printing (c.1969), [Los Angeles] - [the portfolio shows some modest wear at the extremities, and bears a few external scuff marks (or finger-smudges); the printed sheets themselves are in pristine condition]. The ultra-rare original printing of Morrison's first self-published work, sometimes referred to as a "book of poems," although I can't quite fathom why, because it's pretty obvious that (a) it's not a book, and (b) it's mostly not poetry. It is, rather, a portfolio containing 82 unbound sheets, upon which are printed (rectos only) Morrison's ruminations on (mostly) the cinema. These "eyeball-slashing thoughts on film," as one Morrison biographer called them, came from the notebooks he kept during his time (1964-1965) at UCLA's film school, which is incidentally where he met future Doors co-founder and bandmate Ray Manzarek. "The Lords" was privately printed at Western Lithographers in L.A. in an edition of just 100 copies, as was the roughly-concurrently-issued "The New Creatures" (which actually *is* a "book of poetry"); both were finished and ready for distribution (if that's the word) in May 1969. At that moment The Doors were enmeshed in the aftermath of their notorious March 1st concert in Miami, including a felony charge against Morrison for "lewd and lascivious behavior," and their scheduled tour had been cancelled. Morrison was back in L.A., free on bail, and free, also, to concentrate on writing, completing his film "Feast of Friends," and putting the finishing touches on his self-publishing ventures. One Morrison biographer states that the printed copies of "Lords" were "stacked in a corner by Jim's desk [at The Doors' office on Santa Monica Blvd.] and were given away to friends and fans." This is corroborated by Los Angeles poet Michael C Ford, from whose collection this particular copy comes; Ford, who had first met Morrison at UCLA, remembers "hanging around the office" one day, and being handed this portfolio by Jim himself. Queried about the unusual format, Jim said that he "wanted it to look like an attache case -- like something a foreign correspondent would have." Around that same time (the end of May 1969), Ford took part in a poetry reading at the Cinematheque 16 screening room in Hollywood, held in conjunction with a private screening of "Feast of Friends," on which occasion Morrison gave one of the earliest readings of his long poem "An American Prayer." (Michael McClure, Seymour Cassel, Mary Woronov and others also read from their work at the same event.) *** All 82 leaves are present, each bearing the legend at the bottom: "Copyright: JAMES DOUGLAS MORRISON 1969 ALL RIGHTS RESERVED." He then visited Morrison in London in October, following the conclusion of The Doors' first European tour; while "poking around [Morrison's] apartment looking for something to read," he recalled, he "found Jim's poetry manuscript [and] sat down and read it and thought, holy smoke, this is fantastic." A flawless copy of the finest and most coveted of Canadian livres d?artiste, Limited to 120 copies + 2 printers? proofs, signed by the author, artist, printers and binder, this one of 100 printed on deckle-edged Arches, Rives BFK and Canadian handmade paper. The book was designed and illustrated by Charles Pachter, and hand printed by Manuel and Abel Bello-Sanchez. The type was hand set by the artist in Della Robbia, Kennerly Old Style Italic, and Goudy Old Style foundry typefaces in 1969. The images are serigraphs, some drawn directly on screens or photo-stencils, some re-worked spontaneously from lithographs, drawings, and collages. The blue suede and cloth clamshell box was done by Marion Mertens. "I think it is fair to say that [the book] set a new standard for the handmade livre d?artiste in Canada. Housed in original tube that was sent to ad agencies and newspapers across the country to promote the venue. All in clean, very good condition, In Jack Rennert - The Poster Art of Tomi Ungerer, 1971. Rare. Not in OCLC. Ungerer, the creator of Schoolhouse Rock, also designed the poster for Kubrick’s "Dr. Strangelove." His dark, biting and often bleakly humorous satire is themed around race, US imperialism, capitalism and the counterculture. The Electric Circus was the place in which the New York and West Coast bohemian, freak and hippy scenes and experimental, rock and avant- rock music developed. Rennert records that ".many stores in the U.S. refused to handle them and foreign distributors were dissuaded by customs officials from importing them" (Rennert, pp. 170-171).The posters depict the following images: a naked couple with male and female AC current electrical socket slots on the top of their heads; a naked couple in a domestic electric toaster; a woman wearing only a bra and underwear, straddling a vaccum cleaner - the suction is provided by a fat naked man with a hose in his mouth; a naked woman inside a lightbulb acting as a filament; a naked woman as a lamp with her head in the shade, plugged into power by her tush.

Here is an incredible example of one of the 2 or 3 most highly prized editions of Mr. Salvador Dali's lithographs ever published. Here we have an incredible example of one of Mr. Dali's most significant books and a rare opportunity to purchase a complete collection of the drawings he drew to illustrate Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland". Published by the Maecenas Press imprint under Random House Publishers, this book was issued published and issued in 1969 in an edition of 2,500 released to the general public. This is the limited edition, not the Deluxe limited edition of 200 which can sell for $30,000 or more. This edition is signed on the title page by Mr. Dali. We can provide up to 30 photos of this book and the illustrations should you wish to see them. This example of the book is Near Fine when graded conservatively, including the Original tan leather backed clamshell box with thick cloth boards, gilt lettered spine, original leather ties and faux bone clasps, illustrated by Salvador Dali. It is oversized, measuring 18.5 x 13.5 x 4 inches. This is copy #2106 of 2500 and it includes the original boxes which were issued with the book. We are selling this copy for a friend of the store who purchased this copy new from the J.K. Gill location here in Portland, Oregon in 1969 for a price exceeding $300. He has looked at it less than 5 times since then and kept it in immaculate condition. I see the slightest hint of difference in tone to a small portion of the front board of the clamshell box but believe that it may have been issued as such. This copy contains the prospectus and all pages. All 12 illustrations are present and immaculate. I find two nearly imperceptible spots approximately the size of the head of a pin on the front of the folding chapter The Pig and the Pepper. All 12 chapters are divided into sections, each of which is folded together and is removable from the box itself as they are not bound together. All are present and all are basically in near NEW condition. Includes the original shipping boxes. This is a truly beautiful copy of an incredible example of Mr. Dali's work. A note addressed "Dear Bert [Krantz]," thanking him for a card and then quickly adding that he has found two errors in the text of "PC" (Portnoy's Complaint), despite not having read the book through yet. He describes the errors and asks if they can be corrected in then second printing and whether Bantam will print from the second printing. Signed: "Make love, not typos,/ Yrs, Philip." Roth's dating of this letter is itself likely a typo: the book's official publication was in February of 1969; the letter was likely written in January of 1969. A bibliographically significant letter, pertaining to what may still be Roth's best-known work. Folded for mailing; recipient's marginal mark; author's name on verso; near fine. .

Front free end paper is clipped at the top corner. Light rubbing and soil to side of page block. Cloth shows light discoloration on boards and spine. The spine is lightly sloped, and the gilt on the spine is rubbed. The dust jacket is worn with chipping, rubbing and creasing. One flap appears to have split, or was just reinforced anyhow by tape from the verso on the fold. Presents well.

        Original, Signed Police Report on the May 15th - 22nd Berkeley People's Park Riots, Including 2 Post-Mortem Photographs of Police Shooting Victim James Rector

      Berkeley: Berkeley Police Department, 1969. Smithson's report focuses upon the events of May 22nd, 1969, when National Guard troops and Berkeley police conducted a successful mass arrest of over 400 student demonstrators, including many of the movement's organizers. Roughly half of the report is devoted to an hour-by-hour account of police and National Guard actions that day; the remainder of the report is devoted to a summary of events leading up to the 22nd, including Governor Ronald Reagan's declaration of a state of emergency in Berkeley, the actions of demonstration organizers and participants during the week previous to the mass arrests, and descriptions of the literature handed out by various factions including SDS and The Revolutionary Union. Smithson does not discuss the circumstances surrounding the police murder of James Rector, probably because by the time this report was written - more than a month after the fact - Rector's case was under official police review. A chilling artifact of one of the bloodiest episodes in the history of the Berkeley Free Speech movement. Original 19-pp typed police report, submitted to Berkeley Chief of Police B.R. Baker by Lt. D.C. Smithson. Signed at conclusion, dated 6-20-69. With two original 4" x 5" photographic prints, being official coroner's photographs of the body of James Rector, the U.C. Berkeley student who was the only mortal casualty of the People's Park Riots. Slight soiling, old staple-holes to report pages; each page stamped "Filmed;" Very Good.
