        Poste restante

Bok. P.A.Norstedt & Söners Förlag Stockholm, 1 upplaga, 1967. Fotografin a?r ung, so?kande och sjudande av livslust.

        The Sonnets

New York: Grove Press, Inc., [1967]. First Edition Thus. INSCRIBED by Ted Berrigan on the front end paper: "For / Ken / & Anne / With / Love-- / Ted Berrigan." Our copy is the first printing of the first trade edition of Berrigan's most famous work. It follows the rare 1964 mimeographed version published by Lorenz and Ellen Gude. Grove published this edition in 1967 although the only date present is the 1964 copyright. (See Aaron Fischer, "Ted Berrigan, An Annotated Checklist," page 29.)         Heights (Columbia University Student Newspaper) : September 1967 -- Vol. 1, No. 1

New York: Postcrypt Press (Earl Hall, Columbia University), 1967. Original wraps. Very Good +. The uncommon Sept. 1967 maiden issue of this short-lived student weekly, issued firmly in the spirit of time (1967) and place (Columbia). Suffused with a radical energy and a palpable distrust of the school's administration, the paper foreshadows the showdown-to-come, which would of course shut down the campus a little over half a year later and generate world headlines in the process. This copy has held up nicely: Clean and VG+, with a thin, even horizontal crease halving the paper and with one very small closed tear along the front panel's upper-edge. 15" tall, 12 pgs. In a nod to the Beat movement (which Columbia's campus gave birth to), the rear page is a lavish reprint of part of Lawrence Ferlinghetti's "Coney Island of the Mind"

Garden City, New York: Doubleday & Company, Inc., 1967. First edition. A fine copy in a nearly fine dust jacket with mild rubbing to spine ends and corner tips, some mild rub spots to lower spine panel and to spine fold.. Octavo, cloth. Hugo award winner 1968, Nebula nominee, 1967. "...his most sustained single tale, richly conceived and plotted, exhilarating throughout its considerable length. Some of the crew of a human colony ship, which has deposited its settlers on a livable world, have made use of advanced Technology (including Identity Transfer) to ensconce themselves in the role of gods, selecting their role models from the Hindu pantheon, including a fatally attractive She figure. But where Hinduism flourishes, the Buddha - in the shape of the protagonist Sam - must follow; and his liberation of the humans of the planet, who are mortal descendants of the original settlers, takes on aspects of both Prometheus and Coyote the Trickster. At points, Sam may seem just another of Zelazny's stable of slangy, raunchy, over-loved immortals; but the end effect of the book is liberating, wise, lucid." - Clute (ed.), SFE online.         The Master And Margarita.

London: Collins and Harvill Press,, 1967. Translated from the Russian by Michael Glenny. Octavo. Original green and black boards, titles to spine gilt. With the dust jacket. Touch of spotting to pastedowns and endpapers, a sharp copy in the unusually bright jacket slightly yellowing at the top of the back panel, some trivial marks to the back of the jacket. An excellent copy. First Glenny edition, first impression. The Glenny translation was preceded in 1967 by Mirra Ginsburg's. Ginsburg took as her copy text the bowdlerised Soviet version which had huge portions excised. The version here however is complete and the standard English translation of one of the 20th century's literary masterworks. Scarce.

Electronic Music - featuring Cage's Fontana Mix - signed LP record

Turnabout Records,, 1967. Original 12-inch 33 r.p.m. LP record in striking card sleeve with shocking pink neon "electronic" photographic image by John Murello. Sleeve just a little rubbed and with a neat purchase notation in ink verso, the record with good gloss, very good indeed. Original 1967 LP of electronic music by groundbreaking composers John Cage, Luciano Berio, and Ilhan Mimaroglu, featuring a realisation of Cage's Fontana Mix for magnetic tape, Berio's Visage for magnetic tape, based on the voice of Cathy Berberian and other sounds, and Mimaroglu's Agony. Signed on the cover in silver Sharpie by Cage. Composed in 1958 and premiered in 1959, Fontana Mix was one of several works in which Cage experimented with the relatively new technology of magnetic tape, as well as with compositional methods of "indeterminacy." Using a similar system of notation to his Concert for Piano and Orchestra, the work requires the performer to superimpose a set of transparencies containing dots and grids to create a score, which can then be performed with any instrument or combination of instruments. This innovation was one of Cage's many important contributions to avant-garde and electronic music, including blurring the distinctions between music, found sounds, and silence; using altered instruments; and introducing chance into his compositions (aleatoric music.) Although not the first to use tape in the creation of original musical works, Cage's compositions were a profound influence on other avant-garde composers, notably Luciano Berio.

Last leaf states: "Two hundred copies of this illustrated edition have been privately printed, of which this is number ....." . No number has ever been entered. Scarce. VG.This charming ghost story was written by Alan, 8th Duke of Northumberland and published in 1930. As stated in the preface his son Hugh, 10th Duke, decided with his friend Col C. G. Lancaster to reprint the book in a small limited edition for their friends. Almost certainly it woulld have been Col. Lancaster who owned Kelmarsh Hall, Northamptonshire, near to the home of B.B., who would have suggested commisioning him to illustrate the book. The book was never made available to the general public. .
