An original production cel from the MGM animation Dr Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas. "You're a foul one, Mr. Grinch. You're a nasty wasty skunk. Your heart is full of unwashed socks, your soul is full of gunk. MR. GRINCH!"

MGM, 1966 - Original hand painted production 2 cel setup: the image of the Grinch measuring 135 x 195 mm. Production marks and sequence numbers to lower edge of cel (below mount). On a print background for presentation purposes, with authentication seal and estate plate signature of Chuck Jones to front of cel. Mounted, glazed and framed (overall size 390 x 440 mm). In excellent condition. Originally broadcast by CBS on 18 December 1966, How the Grinch Stole Christmas became a perennial feature of US festive season television - the position occupied by Raymond Briggs's The Snowman for British audiences. Superbly voiced by Boris Karloff and with ear-catching music by Albert Hague and Eugene Poddany, it was Chuck Jones's inspired direction that turned Seuss's updating of the Scrooge story into a small screen classic. The scene, featured around the 18:30 mark in the film, depicts the Grinch in his Santa costume, stealing the Who's ice cubes. [Attributes: First Edition]

Fantastic Voyage (Original screenplay for the 1966 film)

Twentieth Century-Fox, Los Angeles 1966 - Final Script for the 1966 film, "Fantastic Voyage," directed by Richard Fleischer, written for the screen by Harry Kleiner, and starring Raquel Welch, Edmond O'Brien, and Donald Pleasance. One of the seminal science fiction films of the 1960s, novelized the same year by Isaac Asimov and published by Houghton Mifflin. Stephen Boyd heads a team of scientists sent on a bizarre experimental mission in which, through a revolutionary and as-yet untested process, the scientists and their special motorized vehicle are miniaturized and then injected into the blood stream of a scientist who is near death. Their mission is to relieve a blood clot caused by an assassination attempt. The film's Oscar-winning visual effects (by Art Cruikschank) chart the progress of the voyagers through the scientist's body, burrowing past deadly antibodies, chunks of tobacco residue in the lungs, and other obstacles. Oscars also went to Jack Martin Smith and Dale Hennesy's art direction and Walter M. Scott and Stuart A. Reiss' set decoration. Other nominations were received for color cinematography (Ernest Laszlo) and sound effects [The AllMovie Guide]. Blue titled wrappers, noted as FINAL and project No. 43 on the front wrapper, and dated December 22, 1964 (nearly two years prior to the film's release). Title page present, marked "Final," date matching the front wrapper, and with a credit for screenwriter Kleiner. 142 leaves, principal pages eye-rest green, with blue revision pages throughout, dated variously between 1/15/1965 and 2/23/1965 Pages Near Fine with the most minute nicking to the page fore-edges; wrapper Very Good plus with yapped edges, bound with three gold brads.Weldon (1983), pp. 231-232.

Aquarell/Zeichnung, Bayern, Oberbayern

Archive of 30 original photographs of Klaus Kinski with his family (Original photographs)

N.p.: N.p., 1966. Archive of 30 vintage oversize press photographs by Michael Montfort of actor Klaus Kinski, his second wife, actor Brigitte Tocki, and their then five year old daughter, actor Nastassja Kinksi. Five of the photographs with the stamp of German magazine "Bild am Sontagg" crediting Montfort, and separately date stamped either February 23, March 1, or March 3, 1966, although the photographs in the archive appear to be unpublished. Four additional photographs with Montfort's signature in holograph pencil on the verso. From the photographer's estate. The photographs show Kinski with his family, both at home and a number of different locations and activities, such as leading his daughter on a pony, holding balloons for her, at the beach, and in riding in the back of a car with his wife. The images generally paint a picture of Kinski as a loving husband and doting father, and an altogether happy family, images in stark contrast to both Kinski's already well deserved reputation for violent and erratic behavior and the truth of his family's domestic life. An early example of the self aware myth making Kinski would engage in for much of his career, though running counter to the public image he would embrace and embellish later in life. Born in Freiburg, Germany, Michael Montfort began his career working as a photojournalist for German magazines such as "Stern," "Quick," and "Bild am Sonntag." He covered Queen Elizabeth's 1965 visit to Germany, the aftermath of the Six Day War in Israel and Egypt, and the May 1968 protests in Paris. Montfort emigrated to Los Angeles in 1973 and began working as a freelancer. Four years later, on assignment for the German literary magazine "Rogners," Montfort was sent to photograph Charles Bukowski. Aided by the case of wine he smartly brought with him to their first meeting, Montfort connected with the publicity-shy and splenetic poet. Over the next two decades, as both Bukowski's drinking buddy and personal photographer, he shot literary thousands of images of Bukowski and collaborated with him on titles such as "Horsemeat," "Shakespeare Never Did This," and "The Wedding." In addition to Bukowski and Kinkski, Montfort shot notable photographs of luminaries such as William S. Burroughs, Brigitte Bardot, and a Jackson 5 era Michael Jackson. Photographs sized variously between 7 x 11.75 and 8.5 x 12.25 inches (18 x 30 and 22 x 31 cm). Generally Near Fine.

Andrew Wyeth: Tempuras, Watercolors, Dry Brush, Drawings, 1938 into 1966

Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, [Philadelphia 1966 - First edition. Illustrated. 111, [1] pp. Square 4to. INSCRIBED to Lincoln Kirstein, "For Lincoln / with love / Andy -" An outstanding association copy. Kirstein, who was on the board of MoMA, met Andrew Wyeth after the museum acquired CHRISTINA'S WORLD in 1948. Wyeth was still largely unknown at that time, and he quickly came to rely on Kirstein for support and honest criticism of his work. "Kirstein appointed himself Wyeth's friend, admirer, mentor, and stern critic - in essence a supersuccessor to NC. [.] Wyeth thinks that in the 1950s he needed Kirstein to push him toward more form in his work, more solidity" (Meryman, Andrew Wyeth: A Secret Life (1998) p 239, 243). Kirstein, who disdained most abstract art, was essential in providing Wyeth the confidence he needed to continue work in the face of hostile critics who derided his art as sentimental and unsophisticated. Wyeth was fond of quoting Kirstein's dismissive opinion of the critics, "Why do you want approval from those horses' asses?" (ibid, p. 390).Kirstein was a father-figure to two generations of Wyeth artists, and as Andrew's son Jamie developed his own artistic gifts, Kirstein began to transfer his attention to the younger Wyeth. "After posing for nineteen-year-old Jamie, Kirstein more or less shifted his allegiance from Andrew and became Jamie's friend and mentor. Kirstein told Betsy, 'You gave me the only son I ever had'" (ibid, p. 275). Publisher's wrappers, soiled. Very good Illustrated. 111, [1] pp. Square 4to [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy]

        The Fixer [Inscribed Association Copy]

FSG, NY 1966 - His fourth novel, which deals with anti-Semitism in Tsarist Russia, and which won both the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award. Inscribed by Malamud: "For Katharine and Mike/ old good friends/ Bern." The authors Michael Seide and Katharine Shattuck were long-time friends of Malamud's, with Malamud having gone so far as to call Seide an "influence" on him. It was Seide who indirectly found Malamud his agent: Seide was Henry Volkening's (of Russell and Volkening) first client, but when Seide recommended Volkening to Malamud and Malamud called the agency, Diarmuid Russell answered the phone, and Russell would remain Malamud's agent throughout his career. Seide wrote The Common Thread in 1944, and then didn't publish another book for nearly forty years. When his book The Common Wilderness was finally released, Malamud was there to blurb it, as "an original, energetic, language wrought, imaginative work by a daring writer." A fine copy in a near fine dust jacket with mild fading to the spine lettering and a bit of wear to the crown. An excellent association copy of a multiple award-winning novel.         An original production cel from the MGM animation Dr Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

MGM,, 1966. You're a foul one, Mr. Grinch. You're a nasty wasty skunk. Your heart is full of unwashed socks, your soul is full of gunk... MR. GRINCH! Original hand painted production 2 cel setup: the image of the Grinch measuring 135 x 195 mm.
