        Arcitectuur Gebouwen Constructies

[Antwerpen: N.p., c. 1964-1969]. Some of the tipped in photographs loose from their glue backings and lightly curled, appears a final photograph might have been removed, else near fine in vinyl album cover with embossing tape lettered labels affixed to front.. Album of twenty architectural photographs. Quarto sheets in plastic comb binding. Consists of 9 color and 11 black and white photographs, tipped in, some now loose from glue. Various sizes, ranging from 10 X 8 1/4 inches to 8 1/4 X 6 1/2 inches. Some with pen notations, including year, either to margin of photograph or directly to page. On the final page in pencil is written, "Fans Claeys / Luchbac Antwerpen"; possibly this is the name of the photographer. The images document various mid-century buildings, apparently in Belgium. Buildings include two views of an art deco style B.T.M.C. building at night (Bell Telephone Manufacturing Company); others appear to be postwar glass and steel curtain wall structures as well as several images of underground highways and industrial warehouses and hangers. Overall, a striking collection of Northern European techno-modernism; evokes the Trans-Europ-Express of both Robbe-Grillet and Kraftwerk alike.

Nine autograph letters and cards signed

thirteen pages (approximately 1500 words) 2 August 1964 - 29 November 1965, London - To the writer, editor and publisher Neville Braybrooke on literary matters: "`Every Eye' delightfully upset my working schedule. I meant to ration it to meal times but greedily devoured it (in) one read because I couldn't stop! I liked it very much indeed & think it even better than the first one. It is really original - you have a wonderfully individual eye and the whole flavour of the book isn't like anyone else's . . . the end gave me the authentic shock . . ! Do hope the reviewers see the point, they're so dumb sometimes even when they're 'nice'." (To June Guesdon Braybrooke, 2 November 1956): "Thank you for sending me the Teilhard de Chardin book! Now feel almost ready to tackle The Phenomenon again. Anyway your book has made me really love that man." (13 September 1965): "I was waiting for something unexpected & nice to be confirmed before (told you about it, as you were the 'prime mover')! You may remember at that delightful dinner party of yours in the summer; you mentioned that piece of mine published years ago in The Month (about my coming back to the church) to John Guest & got him so interested in it that he asked to see it . . . It wasn't actually extracts from my notebooks but from a vast correspondence I'd had with someone (now dead) at the time just before & after my 're-conversion' he had kept all my letters & I had asked for them back so that I could see what I was actually thinking & writing at the actual time when I did that piece - originally for Cyril Connolly, but it shocked him too much & was eventually printed in The Month. John Guest was so interested in it. By luck, I hadn't destroyed those letters along with the mass of papers, MSS etc. I got rid of when I moved. Anyway the nett result is that John Guest wants to publish . . . & thinks it's relevant to people's problems at the moment. I'm still slightly stunned it's so extraordinary, having struggled impotently to try & write a book for the past ten years, to find I've written one, entirely by accident, over twenty years ago! And this extraordinary thing is entirely due to you . . . (29 November n.y.[1965]). "I'm almost beginning to feel that `The Hound & the Falcon' is a real book after all. There's been something so dream like about the whole thing that I can't quite believe it yet . . . I'm delighted that you're reviewing it for the Spectator . . . I wonder if any non-Catholics will review it I hope so much that what you say is true, that it will comfort some other people in the same predicament. I think there are a good many." (16 November 1965). Folded for mailing and in excellent condition.

        The Naked Lunch

John Calder, London 1964 - The first British edition. Inscribed twice by Burroughs, first to Richard Aaron, undated, and then to Bob Jackson in 1984. As such, a double association copy: presumably Jackson bought the copy already inscribed to Aaron, and then had Burroughs inscribe it again to him. Since they are the two people most involved in the sales of Burroughs' papers, and the preservation of his archive, it is a copy that resonates with literary history. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket. The first printing of this edition was 4000 copies. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]
