DIURNES. Decoupages et Photographies De Pablo Picasso. DELUXE EDITION with Linoleum Cut Signed and Numbered By Picasso

Berggruen, 1962. Folio. From Cramer (#115): "This book is the result of collaboration between Picasso, the photographer Villers and Prevert. Employing a technique he started using in 1943, Picasso made some cut-outs of heads and silhouettes of men, women and animals. Villers mounted the cut-outs on different photographs - 30 in all - thus varying their effect and quality. Finally, Prevert, letting his eyes wander from image, gives a delighful account of his visual promenade. Picasso drew the title and a face for the cover of the presentation box, which contains Prevert's text and the 30 photos-decoupages. The 100 deluxe copies (our copy is the #58) are accompained by a color linocut representing a seated woman (Bloch 1062), signed and numbered by Picasso. In box. Fine condition.. Signed by Author(s). 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Illus. by Picasso.

The Dark Monarch A Portrait From Within.

London: The Galley Press, Uncorrected Proof Copy, 1962.. "This is a rough and uncorrected proof and should not be regarded as a finished copy in either printing or binding." 204 pp. paper covers, in good condition. With drawings by the author. The author's note says that "The Dark Monarch is psychobiographic, in the widest sense." Berlin, 1911-1999, was a dancer, painter, sculptor, writer and poet, one of the last surviving members of the St Ives School in Cornwall. This was his second novel and its motive was, in some degree, to vent personal anger over the hypocrisy of an over-close competitive art colony. The book was published and 575 copies were sold before its withdrawal from sale after no fewer than four libel actions by members of that colony. Copies were pulped, with probably only around 100 surviving. This is an uncorrected proof copy. It is therefore an interesting survival and has to be considered very scarce.

Orpheus 1963: A World in Chorus. A 20th Century Literature of Synthesis

Liberal Press New York: Liberal Press. (1962). First. First edition. Quarto. Printed perfectbound wrappers. A little wear to the wrappers and spine a little tanned, else about fine. Inscribed by the author: "For Professor Howard Nitzberg with best wishes for his Ph.D. dissertation with my compliments. H.M. Barzun. New Rochelle, N.Y. June 1966." Laid in is a two-page mimeographed overview of Orphic Art, based on Barzun's work, but of unknown origin, perhaps written by Nitzberg. Barzun, the father of author and polymath Jacques Barzun, was a poet, and one of a number of French modernists who came to New York City right before and during the first World War, among them Marcel Duchamp, Francis Picabia and his wife Gabrielle Buffet, Arthur Cravan, Albert Gleizes and his wife Julliette Roche; painters Jean and Yvonne Crotti; and writer Henri-Pierre Roche. They joined painter Joseph Stella, harpist Carlos Salzedo, and others including Alfred Stieglitz, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Man Ray, forming a community of modern artists who made New York the new center of the art world. .

        The Reivers. A Reminiscence.

New York; Random House, 1962. First edition, stated first printing. 20,5x14,5 cm. (5, 1 blank), 305, (1 blank) pp. Publisher's red cloth with red top edge, printed dustjacket. The jacket faded at spine, slightly creased at spine ends and a bit chipped at corners. The corners very slightly bumped. Contents are fine. With two laid-in articles on Faulkner, both frequently underlined. Inscribed on front free endpaper: "To Else and Helen, with love / Bill", and then signed on the title: "William Faulkner / Oxford, Miss. / 2 July 1962". Massey 193. Petersen A37d. The author's last book and the only one to be inscribed to both Else Jonsson and her daughter Helen. This is apparently one of the very last presentation copies from Faulkner, who posted the book on the third of July (cf. Blotner), was confined to bed the next day and taken to hospital on the fifth, where he died just after midnight on the sixth. That William Faulkner would be awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1950 had been predicted by the Swedish author, journalist and connoisseur of American literature Thorsten Jonsson (1910-1950), who admired Faulkner's works and who acted as his main introducer in Sweden. Jonsson was Dagens Nyheter's USA correspondent from 1943-46 and made his statement while interviewing Faulkner at Rowan Oak in 1946. Unfortunately, Jonsson didn't live to see his prediction come true. At the dinner party given the night before the Nobel Banquet by Faulkner's Swedish publisher, a toast was proposed for Jonsson, as "the man most responsible for our gathering tonight". Among the dinner guests was Else Jonsson, his widow, who had been invited both as a guest of honour and as a fluent speaker of English with a broad knowledge of American customs. She and Faulkner immediately found each other, and they met several times during his stay in Stockholm. Their encounter developed into a life-long passion and friendship, clearly seen in the many letters Faulkner wrote to her, and they managed to spend some time together in Paris, Holmenkollen (Norway) and Stockholm during the years to come. In his first love letter to her, dated the fifteenth of December 1950, he asks himself how he will be able to return to the USA without seeing her again. He also says that being a Noble Prize bloke is nothing compared to spending an afternoon with her. Faulkner's last letter is dated the 14th of December 1960. However, she occupied his mind during the last days of his life, as shown by this presentation copy, which reached her first after the news of his death

Then at Christmas, L'Engle threw a tea party for her mother. One of the guests happened to know John Farrar of Farrar, Straus & Giroux, and insisted that L'Engle should meet with him. Although the publisher did not at the time publish a line of children's books, Farrar met L'Engle, liked the novel and ultimately published it.         To notesbøger m. orig. håndskrevne noter. Ca. 40 sider lille 8vo.

Nogle blade daterede 1962.
