One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

London: Methuen & Co. Fine in Very Good dust jacket. 1962. First Edition. Hardcover. First UK Edition Inscribed by the Author. Loose bookplate laid in inscribed by Ken Kesey in red ink "For Ruth, Ken Kesey." On the copyright page, Kesey's name is blacked out with black marker. Fine with Very Good Plus Dust Jacket. Jacket has small creases at top. Original Price (18 s net) intact. Protected in archival plastic. Kesey's first published novel is based on individuals whom he met while working the graveyard shift in the psychiatric ward in a Veterans' Administration Hospital in California. On the surface, the book is an indictment of the mental health system and psychiatric practices of the era. But, just as importantly, Kesey is attacking conformity and celebrating individualism. Kesey was a major counter-cultural link between the Beat Generation of the 1950's and the hippies of the 1960's. The novel was made into an Oscar-winning movie starring Jack Nicholson in 1975. The picture swept all "Big Five" Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Actor (Jack Nicholson) , Best Actress, Best Director , and Best Adapted Screenplay. One critic argues the novel belongs on the same shelf with 1984, Brave New World, Farenheit 451, Clockwork Orange, Darkness at Noon and Cool Hand Luke. ; Signed by Inscribed by Author(s) .

Fun with Our Friends Signed By 3 Authors Pre-Publication Copy Dick & Jane 1962

Scott, Foresman and Company, 1962. Pre-Publication Copy. Hardcover. Excellent. Wonderful Unique Christmas Present! This is definitely one of a kind! The pre-publication copy of "Fun With Our Friends" Signed By all 3 Authors- Helen M. Robinson; Marion Monroe; and A. Sterl Artley. A. Sterl Artley was the last of the three to die, which was in 1998. "This is the pre-publication copy for review only. It was not to be sold or offered for sale."- as stated by a Scott, Foresman and Company sticker on the copyright page. This turned out to be the 1962 First Edition of this book, but there is NO 1962 copyright date and NO number line in this pre-publication copy. The book is neatly signed by all 3 Authors on the first blank end page. The book itself is loaded with written comments by the authors, such as "New Character"; "New Person"; "Plenty of Humor"; "Text at top first time"; "1st Page unillustrated text"; "Importance of lesson plan- Whole Story"; "Idiom"; "New step in structural analysis possessive"; "to, too, two- all have been introduced"; and many more from the authors. As stated from their notes, this is the first Dick and Jane reader to have text at the top of the page with the picture below and the first time there is a page with no picture! This highly collectible Vintage Hardcover Reader is in Very Good Plus condition with a tight binding and mostly clean crisp pages- with really the only markings being the author's notes. The book does not appear to have had much use. It had to have been sitting with someone close to one of the three authors for a long time! NO school stamps or other school markings. This is the Primer from the "Dick and Jane" series. The New Basic Reader from the Curriculum Foundation Series. This was the edition used in the 1960's. Hardback book of 160 pages. This is from the Scott, Foresman and Company Dick and Jane Series. Dick and Jane, Sally, Spot, Puff, Mother and Father are all in this edition! Very nice condition collectible of the classic! Outside covers show some minor wear. Great Collectible condition and it is a classic that truly belongs in a Museum! Great memory for you Baby Boomers! Wonderful to use with your own children.
