Non, je ne regrette rien - three track 45 rpm EP, inscribed

Paris: Columbia,, 1961. In original sleeve with photographic image of Piaf by J.-P. Leloir. Light surface scuff to the disc, sleeve a little rubbed, very good. Inscribed on the back of the sleeve to French actress and singer Martine Havet; "Pour Martine cordialement Edith Piaf". Probably Piaf's defining performance, appropriately dedicated by her at the time to the 1er Régiment Étranger de Parachutistes in their inevitably ill-fated support for Algiers Putsch. Also inscribed by Michel Rivgauche, whose "Les Mots d'Amour" Piaf performs on the B side.

[Typescript]: Statement on Purdy [blurb for Children Is All]

Havana, Cuba. [1961]. Typescript. Single sheet written on Hotel Comodoro stationery. A single horizontal fold, likely from being mailed, else fine. Signed typescript of a blurb by Williams used on the dustwrapper of James Purdy's Children Is All. The initial sentence of the blurb has been crossed out and the statement has been restarted underneath. Surprisingly, only the final sentence was used on the published book, rather than his comparisons of Purdy to Paul Bowles. From the collection of Edwin Erbe, director of publicity at New Directions. .

        Catch-22 A Novel

New York: Simon and Schuster,, 1961. Octavo. Original blue cloth, titles to spine in white, top edge stained red. With the dust jacket. Small scuff to one corner at the foot of the spine, contents very lightly toned, an excellent copy in the nicked, tanned and slightly marked dust jacket. First edition, first printing. A fine and early presentation copy with Heller unusually fulsome inscription to the front free endpaper, "To Everett Hoffman - With all good wishes from a copywriter at McCall's to a copywriter at Cunningham & Walsh, and with the sincere hope that this book will give you some pleasure. Joe Heller November 24, 1961 New York". As the inscription makes plain the recipient worked for an advertising agency - in theory therefore worked for a competitor of Heller's own employers, McCall's. The date of this inscription is within 6 weeks of publication and one the earliest we have handled. Heller would seem to have focussed his presentation of the first copies of this masterpiece on colleagues at McCall's and to fellow members of his erstwhile vocation. Towards the end of the book three passages have are scored in ink in the margin possibly by Heller.
