A collection of 136 black and white or sepia toned photographs measuring between 1.5" x 2" and 5" x 7" affixed to stiff black paper with captions. Near very good, the album has a detached front board with very good or better photographs, some with tape repairs. A photo album kept by a Navy seaman while serving in the Pacific in World War II featuring portraits and photos of his comrades. The photos show men working on ships including a nice amateur photo of sailors staring into the sunset. Two photos show a Navy baseball game on the beach likely somewhere in the South Pacific. A few photographs from the attack on Pearl Harbor are included but they appear to be contemporary reprints. The second half of the album shows photos of the sailor back in the United States in 1945 visiting people in Danubury, Connecticut, many times while still posing in uniform, as well as a trip to the Atlantic City beach with his girlfriend as well as Lake Oberst in Glassboro, New Jersey. An interesting collection of a sailor's wartime memories including friend's portraits and his joyous return home.

Photo Album]: World War II Era Snapshots

New Jersey 1940 - Small oblong quarto measuring 7" x 10". String-tied black paper board with "photographs" stamped on the front board. Contains 256 black and white or sepia toned gelatin silver photographs measuring between 1.5" x 1.5" and 4" x 6" with some captions. Loose pages, worn edges, and tiny tears thus very good with near fine photographs.A photo album of World War II era snapshots kept by an American woman, Helen, who worked in a bank in New Jersey during the 1940s. The photographs show her family and friends posing around their homes, most of which are in the New Jersey area between 1940 and 1945 according to the few captions available. It also appears from two photos of her at an office that she was a bank teller at least part time and was going to high school, photos of her graduating are seen here. Some of the photos show her posing with soldiers on leave and even capture her and her friends trying on their male friend's military uniforms, as well as with a few girls in WAACs and WAVES uniforms. Many of the photos appear to have been sent home from overseas by friends and admirers that she was in contact with during the war. The men she talked to appeared to be in the Navy and Army and are seen here both on duty and home on leave. A few photos were taken in unidentified barracks and camps and one shows a man in a Marines baseball uniform with a "passed censor" stamp on the verso as well as another photo of an Army band. A few other camp photos include one of a man posing with a gun, another shows a group of men repairing a train, and another shows two men goofing off with one carrying the other on his back. Many of the photos taken on leave show the men posing with girls, possibly girlfriends, as well as their parents. One photo shows a pair dressed up for a dance, another shows a naval cadet shaking hands with an army cadet, and another shows a couple posing in a field. A few of the captions mention a "Pete" whom it appears Helen was sending photos and letters to. A photo of her posing by a tree reads, "Helen taken Sunday January 10, 1943 -- Notice the graduation pin and the wrist watch, I still didn't lose them as you can see. That's my new outfit isn't it nice?" An extensive collection of snapshots that reflect the concerns of a young woman on the home front, as well as the military camp life of her correspondents during World War II.

The dishes are 7.5" in diameter (about 10" at widest part with the handles). Unmarked. Fine condition. The mugs are 5.75" tall and about 4" in diameter with graceful handles. Marked "Hull House Kilns Chicago HHK" on the bottom of each mug. Fine. The social settlement Hull House was founded by Jane Addams and Ellen Gates. They founded a pottery in 1927, supervised by Myrtle M. French, a ceramics instructor at the Arts Institute of Chicago, who taught ceramics classes at Hull House. It was also used as a place for immigrants, mostly Mexicans, to practice their country crafts. Hull House also held evening classes conducted by social workers who belonged to the Chicago Arts and Crafts Society. During the Depression many of the Mexican potters returned to Mexico, although the pottery studio stayed open until 1940.         Public Hanging of Mussolini

Milan, Paris, 1940-1944. Album of photographs taken and compiled by a Private Wenn serving with the Central Mediterranean Force (C.M.F.) during the Second World War, featuring seven gruesome views of the public hanging of Benito Mussolini in Milan. Oblong 8vo. leather album measuring approximately 23 x 16 cm, two-tone patterned boards, gold satin pastedowns, string-tied cardstock leafs. Contains 31 gelatin silver print photographs mounted onto black cardstock leaves, including both snapshots and professional views, some with manuscript captions. Photographs vary in size, the smallest measuring approximately 9 x 6 cm, and the largest 14,5 x 10,5 cm. This is the album of Private C. Wenn, no. 5680560, A.C.C. H.Q. Coy [Allied Control Commission (for Italy), Headquarters Company] of the Central Mediterranean Force, who compiled some fascinating, if not poignant, photographic views of the Second World War, in Italy and France. Wenn identified himself on the first leaf with his army portrait photograph, together with his name, home address, and credentials in manuscript. Most graphic and rare in original print format, are the photographs of the corpses of Italian dictator Benito Mussolini, his mistress Clara Petacci, and other fascists hanged for public display in Piazzale Loreto, Milan, in 1945. Others corpses hung alongside were those of prominent leader of Fascist Italy Achille Starace, Italian Marxist revolutionary Nicola Bombacci, fascist politician journalist Alessandro Pavolini, and a man then labeled as "Gelormini" whom remains unidentified today. Images also show the battered bodies tossed on the ground after the macabre display, and civilians revelling in the event. [On 26 April 1945, Mussolini and Petacci were both summarily shot, along with most of the members of their 15-man train, primarily ministers and officials of the Italian Social Republic. The shootings took place in the small village of Giulino di Mezzegra and were conducted by a partisan leader who used the nom de guerre of 'Colonnello Valerio'. His true identity is unknown. Italian partisan and communist politician Walter Audisio claims to have performed the execution, although it has also been alleged that Luigi Longo may have pulled the trigger, he too, an Italian partisan and communist politician. The corpses were brought to Milan on 29 April 1945, for a large angry crowd to insult and physically abuse, and subsequently hung at a service station in Piazzale Loreto. When captured in Dongo, Lombardy, Mussolini was attempting an escape to the Alps.] Two photographs show the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders bagpipe band practicing at the barracks in Milan. Four photographs show German soldiers in France 1940, some performing sharpshooting exercises (captions December 1940) and others learning training with German tanks. A scene shows soldiers with their communications devices, positioned at the entrance of a dugout trench. Some of these views are captioned in manuscript in German to verso. A series of professional photographs by the official French World War II press agency LAPI captures monumental battle scenes and devastating aftermath in the capital, the French Communist Party establishing a strong presence, and German soldiers made prisoners during the Liberation of Paris in August 1944. (L.A.P.I. stands for Les Actualités Photographiques Internationales) Please Note: Scenes of Battered Hung Corpses Cannot be Shown Here If you would like to see additional images please contact us through the ebay template and we will send you a link.         Albert-Richard Football Map.

Milwaukee, WI. Albert Richard Co. 1940. Original vintage color poster, pictorial / pictographic map, brown and white illustrations on verso, sheet 19 x 26 inches. Light wear to edge of lower margin, very good condition. Eye-catching pictorial map proudly proclaiming America's passion for college football. Beneath the map is a Key to Locations, Nicknames and 1939 records. The names in the border include all of the All-America Football Players for the Past 50 years. On the verso of the map are the 1940 schedules for "major conference schools," plus pictures and descriptions of rugged outerwear manufactured by Albert Richard Co., Milwaukee. This menswear company published a series of football maps from the late 1930s to early 1950s, all brightly colored and full of information for the sports fan. An exceptional piece for the sports fan, these pictorial map posters combine great graphics with fascinating information and an interesting historical spin. In fact the 1941 map in the series is documented in "Eyes of the Nation: A Visual History of the United States" (2004) by Vincent Virga and Alan Brinkley: "Derived from the nineteenth-century English games of soccer and rugby, American football emerged as an inter-collegiate sport in the 1870s and as a professional sport in the 1890s. This pictorial map demonstrates how popular football had become by the beginning of World War II."

Contains 84 black and white or sepia toned gelatin silver photographs measuring between 2.5" x 3.5" and 8" x 10", with captions. Some rubbing else very good with near fine photographs.A photo album kept by a young woman who for multiple summers attended the Camp Kehonka, a private girl's camp in New Hampshire throughout the end of the 1940s. Many of the photos show professional group photos from each summer she spent at the camp. The photos are also heavily captioned and the album begins with "well, let's start off with pictures of dear old Camp Kehonka and the shores of Winnipesaukee!" It's followed by a group photo which reads, "I had graduated from being a Duckling (that picture is in the camp scrapbook) and now I was a Duck with Miss Ackley to watch over me. That's Anne-Marie my tentmate smirking away over there on the left in the front. This isn't all the Ducks -- just my group." She rose through the ranks of various waterfowl which also included the Goose Group, a group of older girls, in 1948. The group photo of the Goose Group reads, "this was the best year and the best group. Roomed with Ruthie (first in first row) and Pencie (third in last row). In the second month I was in a tent with Sally (sixth in second row), that is when we weren't in Canada."After the group photos the album continues with images of camp activities including raising the flag, boating, and Sunday service. There are also candids of the girls in their rooms, working in the kitchen, and in the dining hall. One photo shows the girls in a common room and reads, "around the fire in the Duck Lodge. Guess who belongs to the long hair? It won't ever be that long again." One section of photos show the girls performing in an Alice in Wonderland play which included photos of multiple Alices, the King and Queen of Hearts, and the White Rabbit. They also put on a play of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves in 1947 in which the compiler of the album played Snow White. The landscape of the camp is seen throughout the album with better than average amateur photography showing images of the girls on horseback, a beautiful sunset over the lake, and campers posed in their tents. The final pages show candids and portraits of the girls around camp, sunbathing, playing tennis, and at theater practice. The camp was used as a girl's camp between 1902 and 1985. The camp was founded by Laura I. Mattoon, A. Cooper "Bally" Ballentine, and Althea Ballentine in 1902. Althea Ballentine was the director until its close in 1985. Its founders stated that "the essence of Camp Kehonka is excellence in everything you do" and they felt it was an "oasis of idealism."A wonderful collection of a girl's camp photography in the late 1940s.

Globe Terrestre from glas 1935/1936 - Art Deco

Globus "Art deco" illuminated (not functioning anymore because the original electrical parts have been removed but are still available) globe by Girard Barrère et Thomas 17 rue de Buci Paris (The geographical publishing firm Girard & Barrère obtained the Globe manufacture from Forest some time in the early 20th Century, but continued to offer the models as "Globes Forest" at the same Rue de Buci address in Paris that Forest used. During the early and mid 20th century the firm also produced globes and geographical publications as Girard, Barrère et Thomas. This may have been a merger or partnership with the 19th century Paris globe maker G. Thomas. - from "Modelle der Welt")Gllobe is completely from glas and is cased in brass which weights quite heavy with 12 printed paper gores pasted on it. Globe diameter is 14 inch (34 cm) and the total hight is 21,6 inch (55 cm).Condition report: some small parts of the printed paper gores missing. A small piece at the legend, a piece of about 2.5-3 cm in front of brasil and a small one in the Atlantic Ocean. Overall the globe is in remarkably good condition for its age and knowing that antique glas globes are extremely rare. I have been dealing with globes for the last 6 years and this is only the second time I have a old glass globe before 1940.Iran is already mentioned on the globe which means the globe must be after 1935, but Siam is still mentioned, which makes the date of the globe somewhere between 1935-1939.
