From a Surgeon's Journal 1915-1918. SIGNED BY HARVEY CUSHING.

Boston: Little Brown, 1936. - Frontispiece, xxi, 534 pp, 34 unnumbered plates. Original cloth. Gilt spine lettering very dull. Top & bottom of spine slightly frayed. Circular stain on rear cover. First Edition. SIGNED BY HARVEY CUSHING: "Inscribed for Peter Murphy/ with the best wishes of/ Harvey Cushing/ New Haven/ Sept. 24 1936." With the ink signature, or possibly name stamp, of J. P. Murphy MD. Bibliography of the Writings of Harvey Cushing 22: "The volume covers the period from March 1915, when Cushing first went to Europe to the Ambulance Américaine with a Harvard Unit, until November 14, 1918. The author was eventually discharged at Washington, D.C., April 9, 1919." "During the first months of 1935 H.C. occupied himself with his war journal. It had been bound up in nine fat volumes of approximately a thousand pages each and while he extracted a good many entries bodily for the published volume, it is of some interest that he 'edited' nearly every passage, now and again adding and subtracting—additions being made on the basis of other contemporary records. He was inclined to hold his own memory in contempt, and as a rule was over-conscientious about avoiding additions which could not be fully documented" (Fulton, Harvey Cushing, p. 657).         John Wisden's Cricketers' Almanack for 1936 - 1936 Wisden - Original Hardback - Presentation Copy

1936. Hi, This lot is a 1936 Original Hardback Wisden in Very Good Condition, excellent for the year. It also had the added bonus of being a presentation copy, signed by WH Brookes (Editor) to future editor Norman Preston which makes the book very unique. Wisden chaaged materials in 1933 and the quality of the books suffered as a result, hence why 1933-1936 seem a lot more faded than the early 1920s Hardbacks. The gilt to the front and spine is ever so slightly fading as per the year and the boards are dulled, this book however is a lot better than an average 1936. Odd mark to the boards. Internally it is a nice and bright book, very yellow pastedowns and titlepage and clean inside. The hinges are strong. Old address sticker to the first page and removable post-it-note stating the endorsement. The previous owner had a bat bookmark inserted loosly froma paperback. Internally very good without restoration with an excellent photoplate.

. . " - Deutsche / Drittes Reich, Antisemitismus in Deutschland vor 1945, scharfer judenfeindlicher Standpunkt, der Jude / Freimaurer / politisierende Geistliche als Feindbild in der nationalsozialistischen Weltanschauung, Freimaurerei, Freimaurer, Freimaurerlogen, Maßnahmen des Führers, Kampf gegen Gegner des Nationalsozialismus, Aufruf zu unerhörter Selbstzucht in der Einhaltung der ewigen Grundsätze der vom Führer gegebenen Weltanschauung, die SS als weltanschaulicher Stoßtrupp und Schutzstaffel der Idee des Führers, deutsche Staatspolizei, innerpolitisches Schutzkorps des nationalsozialistischen Staates, Heinrich Himmler, Reichssicherheitshauptamt, staatliche Überwachung im Nationalsozialismus, Antibolschewismus, NS.-Schrifttum völkisches / nationalsozialistisches Gedankengut - Erstausgabe in sehr guter [Attributes: First Edition; Soft Cover]
