Aquarell Ansicht von San Antonio, Ibiza

Aquarell auf Bütten. Gemalt 1935. Ansicht von San Antonio, Ibiza. Format 27 x 21 cm. Abb.). Das Passepartout am Rande geringfügig stockfleckig. Eine Ecke bestoßen. Oben mit durchgehender Knickfalte.)

Gesangsquintette IV. BILDANHANG Kinder INSERATE ------------------------------------------ Zu Reichfachschaftleiter Carl AUEN: Carl Theodor Auen (* 16. Februar 1892 in Düsseldorf 23. Juni 1972 in Berlin-Lichterfelde.

        Green Rushes (First UK Edition)

London: Chambers, 1935. First Edition. First Edition, preceding all others. A phenomenally popular novel in the UK and Ireland upon publication, and basis for the iconic 1952 John Ford film, "The Quiet Man," starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. The UK edition went well into multiple printings, the small first printing having always been extremely scarce, particularly in jacket.Very Good plus in an about Very Good dust jacket. Slight lean, neat contemporary owner name on the front endpaper ("D. MacKellaig"), a strip of fading along the bottom edge of the boards, light foxing to the page edges. Jacket has a few chips and short closed tears at the extremities, the largest being at the crown, affecting just a portion of the title ("EEN" in "GREEN"). A very presentable copy overall.

Dunbar Broadside Containing My Little Dreams. Illustrated by Rockwell Kent

Enoch Pratt Free Library Poetry Broadside, Baltimore, Maryland 1935 - Broadside, sea-green/blue paper, size: 22 x 16-3/4 inches, designed by Norman T. A. Munder, using Munder Types. Printed in blue ink with triple rules at either side in grey and blue, image by Rockwell Kent of woman dancing in front of the rising sun, tiniest bit of sunning at extremities else fine. There are two other poems -- Dawn and Life -- on the broadside, both by Paul Lawrence Dunbar (1872-1905). This broadside was printed as part of a series of poetry broadsides distributed to the Baltimore City Public Schools, created by Munder and the Enoch Pratt Free Library and funded by the Humphrey Moore Fund. "My Little Dreams" had appeared in only two previous texts: Johnson's own THE HEART OF A WOMAN (1918) and James Weldon Johnson's THE BOOK OF NEGRO AMERICAN POETRY (1922).Georgia Blanche Douglas Camp Johnson (1877-1966) was an African American poet and playwright, and considered part of the Harlem Renaissance. She became the first widely recognized African American female poet since Frances Harper, and like Harper was at the forefront of political and social events of her time. She and her husband opened their home to other writers; their "Saturday Nighter's Club" was attended by writers such as Jean Toomer, Langston Hughes, Angelina Grimke and Alice Dunbar-Nelson. T. A. Munder was a well-known type designer who was awarded the gold medal for excellence in 1920 by the AIGA. Rockwell Kent (1882-1971) noted American artist worked in oils, watercolors, studying with Robert Henri and was closely associated with his Monhegan Island (Maine) group. He worked in graphic arts and design and was well known for his wood engraving and lithography. He designed bookplates as well as illustrating books. Verso stamped three times, once as ""Carlton Hotel, Cash Account, For deposit in the Riggs National Bank, Washington Properties …"", with a second stamp from ' The Riggs National Bank, Aug 18 1935 …"" With the third stamp being somewhat illegible, but dated ""August 20"".A near mint example of a check written to the Carlton Hotel in Washington D.C. which today is known as The St. Regis Hotel . Earhart was known to have stayed there on multiple occasions. The Carlton was frequented by numerous notables and celebrities of their day. President Calvin Coolidge cut the hotel's ceremonial grand-opening ribbon eight decades ago, and since then, the hotel has been visited by every U.S. president (Reagan had his hair cut there) and numerous celebrities (Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, and Cher) were frequent guests. Howard Hughes kept a permanent suite at the Carlton during World War II. In 1999, the hotel -- formerly known as the Carlton Hotel -- changed hands and became the second St. Regis in the world.Amelia Earhart was photographed at that hotel during her stay on several occasions, which may be seen along the bottom of the listing.Earhart's plane crash in 1937 remains shrouded in mystery. In an official report, the U.S. government concluded that the two seasoned flyers, unable to locate their destination of Howland Island, ran out of fuel, crashed into the water and sank. Earhart was declared legally dead on January 5, 1939. The question of why and where her plane went down, however, has never been put to rest. In the seven decades since Earhart’s disappearance, a number of hypotheses have emerged, some with scientific evidence behind them and others based on more dubious claims. Some theorists, for instance, believe Earhart was actually a secret agent working for the U.S. government, pointing to her close friendship with Franklin D. Roosevelt and his wife, Eleanor. They suggest that the plane crashed after its pilots intentionally deviated from their course to spy on Japanese-occupied islands in the Pacific, or that Earhart and Noonan landed on one of them and were taken prisoner. Yet another theory holds that Earhart returned safely to the United States, changed her name and lived a long life in obscurity. And yet a more current theory believes that the legendary American pilot died as a castaway, not in a plane crash, with the skeleton of a castaway found on the island of Nikumaroro, Kiribati, in 1940 possibly belonging to Earhart. In August of 2016, the TIGHAR team revealed Earhart made more than 100 radio transmissions calling for help between July 2 and July 6 of 1937, which rules out the possibility of her plane crashing. Her plane had disappeared the morning of July 3. The airplane's radio would not have worked if the engine was not running...         Map of Mexico City and Valley.

Frances Toor Studios. Mexico. 1935. - Color pictographic / pictorial street map, 19 3/4 x 25 inches on sheet size 20 1/2 x 26 inches, professionally mounted on linen. Light wear to folds, tears to mid right map now visible only on close examination. Brightly colored pictorial map designed by the Guatemalan artist Carlos Merida (1891-1984) showing a street plan of central Mexico City with pictographs of many buildings and a numbered "Business Directory" of 21 places in the cartouche, referencing numbers on the map. A note under the map states that "the motifs of the border consist of Aztec and colonial symbols of the names of suburban places." At the lower centre of the map is an inset map of the valley surrounding Mexico City. A wonderful example of the "translation" of the twentieth century decorative map that MacDonald Gill pioneered, here with a Hispanic sensibility.

Men and Memories: A History of the Arts 1872-1922

1935 - ROTHENSTEIN, William. Men and Memories. A History of the Arts 1872-1922. New York: Tudor, circa 1935. Thick octavo, original black cloth, original dust jacket. $2800.First single-volume edition of Rothenstein's two-volume memoir, from the library of legendary theatrical patriarch John Barrymore, with his striking bookplate (of his own design) and featuring a bold caricature drawn by Barrymore on the front free endpaper, with his inscription "John Barrymore-Tower Rd" above the sketch and his initials "J.B." beneath.British painter William Rothenstein is best known for creating "one of the greatest series of contemporary portraits". in the history of art" (DNB)-many of which are seen here in this volume's 96 illustrations, including images of Henry James, W.B. Yeats, Joseph Conrad, T.E. Lawrence and Einstein. This is the first single-volume work of Rothenstein's memoirs to combine the two separately published editions of 1931-2. From the library of actor John Barrymore, legendary patriarch of America's greatest acting family, "known for his exuberant temperament" and classic features that earned him the nickname "The Profile." Within is Barrymore's impressive bookplate, based on his own design, and his caricature of a Caliban-like figure, sketched by Barrymore on the front free endpaper. As a young man Barrymore had tried to "scorn his heritage in the theatre and hoped to become a painter". He had dreamed of bringing the world to his feet executing serious and even macabre masterpieces, in the style of Gustave Doré." After studying in Paris and New York, Barrymore worked as a cartoonist for the New York Telegraph and an illustrator for Hearst editorials, but in time he "bowed to his destiny". [and] the theatre won" (New York Times). The flamboyant and often self-deprecating actor continued to make sketches throughout his life, often portraits of theatrical characters-such as this. Barrymore's notation of "Tower Rd" above the sketch refers to his estate in Hollywood, purchased by him in 1927.         Dunbar Broadside Containing My Little Dreams. Illustrated by Rockwell Kent

Baltimore, Maryland: Enoch Pratt Free Library Poetry Broadside, 1935. Broadside, sea-green/blue paper, size: 22 x 16-3/4 inches, designed by Norman T. "My Little Dreams" had appeared in only two previous texts: Johnson's own THE HEART OF A WOMAN (1918) and James Weldon Johnson's THE BOOK OF NEGRO AMERICAN POETRY (1922). Georgia Blanche Douglas Camp Johnson (1877-1966) was an African American poet and playwright, and considered part of the Harlem Renaissance. Oxford Companion to Women's Writing in the US, pp. 447, 29-30, 640-642.
