First Edition, which consisted of 2000 copies, of one of the great collections of poetry from Yeats's later years. Included are "Coole Park," "For Anne Gregory," "Byzantium," "A Dialogue of Self and Soul" and the Crazy Jane poems. (There had been a briefer collection by the same title, published in New York by the Fountain Press in 1929, but that collection did not include, for example, four of the five poems cited above.) The elaborate binding design is by T. Sturge Moore (signed TSM).~This is a near-fine copy (minor soil); the dust jacket, reproducing Moore's design, is very good-plus with a few tiny chips at corners (its spine browned as always, and with a small damp-mark).         Mickey Mouse in King Arthur's Court: Original Artboards

      n.p. (Burbank): n.p. (Walt Disney Studios), ca. 1933. Very good. Seven artboards with artwork used in preparing the British edition of "Mickey Mouse in King Arthur's Court" after the success of the 1933 American edition. The cover and Pop-Up pages from the American edition published by Blue Ribbon Books were removed, affixed to boards or heavy paper, and reworked with new color and details, added by hand, using gouache and watercolor paint. The lot includes seven artboards, with the front and back cover, inside fly-page double spread, and Pop-Up art for all four two-page spreads. The Pop-up book was published by Dean & Son, London, in 1934. The sine has been reworked, and the "Pop-up" description on the front board has been changed to "Scenic". The artwork is in good to very good condition, with a couple of later minor repairs and some wear and corner loss to the boards to which the artwork is affixed. Housed in a new cloth-backed portfolio. Unique.

Alle Bücher sind im Impressum von Max Ernst und Dorothea Tanning signiert und numeriert. Die Exemplare 1 bis 99 enthalten zusätzlich ein Suite der Lithographien, einzeln numeriert und signiert. Die sechs Lithographien von Max Ernst wurden nach Entwürfen für Bühnenbilder zu Jean Giraudoux \"Judith\" von Pierre Chave, Vence, gedruckt. Die Matthieu AG in Dielsdorf druckte die sechs lithgraphien nach Kostümentwürfen von Dorothea Tanning. Die Übersetzung von Hans Feist und Otto F. Best ist der bei S. Fischer, Frankfurt/Main erschienenen Ausgabe entnommen. Der Text wurde in der 14 Punkt Bembo gesetzt und von Chr. Belsen, Stuttgart, gedruckt. Die Bindearbeiten besorgte H. Wennberg, Leonberg. Dies ist Exemplar Nr. 216. Das Exemplar ist wie neu. Das Buch Judith stellt eine sehr wertvolle und in ihrer Ausgabe edle Arbeit der schöpferischen symbiotischen Kraft beider Künstler dar. Es ist für den bibliophilen Kunstsammler von großer Rarität und Kostbarkeit. Max Ernst (* 2. April 1891 in Brühl - + 1. April 1976 in Paris), eigentlich Maximilian Maria Ernst war einer der bedeutensten Maler, Grafiker und Bildhauer deutscher Herkunft. Dorothea Tanning (* 25. August 1910 in Galesburg/USA - + 31. Januar 2012 in New York City) war eine US-amerikanische Malerin, Bildhauerin und Schriftstellerin. Sie entwarf ebenfalls Bühnenausstattungen und Kostüme für Ballett und Theater.       - London, Taylor & Francis, 1933-1962. 9 parts. Folio (565 x 385mm). With 40 coloured plates, the first 30 plates handcoloured lithographs and the last 10 plates chromolithographs. Original printed wrappers. The complete supplements to Elwes' Monograph of the genus Lilium. "A work of the greatest interest and value to all Lily growers". The main work contains 48 plates and was published between 1877 and 1880. Of the supplements, the parts 1-7 are by A. Grove and A.D. Cotton between 1933 and 1940 and finally parts 8 and 9 by W.B. Turrill between 1960 and 1962. Due to the much later date of publication of the supplements these are frequently lacking. The first 7 supplements, containing 30 superbly handcoloured lithographed plates, were illustrated by Lilian Snelling. Parts 8 and 9 were illustrated by Margaret Stones. H.J.         Group of Industrial Bulletins from Arthur D. Little, Inc. related to High-Speed Photography as well as a photograph of "Golf Ball at Instant of Impact" by Harold Edgerton and K. J. Germeshausen from MIT

      Cambridge, Massachusetts: Arthur D. Little, Inc, 1933. First Edition. Very Good. First Edition. A set of 4 Industrial Bulletins from Arthur D. Little, Inc. (Jan, Mar, and Dec 1933 plus June 1934) along with a letter from Frank L. Tucker of Arthur D. Little, Inc. (Chemists, Engineers) and a small promotional photograph (c) 1933 Arthur D Little Inc. showing a golf ball at the instant of impact by a club. Printed on the rear of the card is a description of the process, and it's application to industrial research, noting H. E. Edgerton and K. J. Germeshausen at MIT were the technical innovators. The bulletins are 8 1/4 x 11 inches,3 of which are stamped "Marked Copy", noting 2 articles on Vibration and one on High Speed Photography. The photograph is 4 1/3 x 3 1/2 inches, and copyrighted by Arthur D. Little in the image. It has crazing to the surface finish, as well as creasing from a paper clip upper left. All are creased upper left where an old paper clip previously held them together, and other than the photograph were folded for mailing. With the increasing complexity and speed in manufacturing processes in the early part of the 20th century, industrial engineering had a problem. How on earth do you figure out what was happening when that $100,000 piece of equipment suddenly shrieked and flew apart? Post-mortems allowed limited analysis of failure modes, but wouldn't it be nice to figure out what was happening beforehand? While the high speed equipment was still in motion? Enter Harold "Doc" Edgerton (whose name is today synonymous with strobe photography). Doc began his graduate work at MIT in 1926 and through 1931 experimented with strobes and photography in his studies of synchronous motors. Shortly after becoming a Professor, Doc Edgerton and several of his students (including K. J. Germeshausen) began to consult with industrial concerns, using the new strobe photography to freeze machines in action and help debug industrial processes, and in at least one case debunk patent infringment cases. It was an important new tool in the industrial engineer's arsenal. Arthur D. Little, a local consulting firm, couldn't help but become aware of this new technology. They were after all in the business of offering analytical advice to those in industry and finance about notable trends, figures, and technologies and kept a close eye on those geniuses at MIT just down the street. In their December 1933 bulletin, they highlight applications of the rapidly evolving high speed photography technology, and end by noting "A future of industrial usefulness is apparently in store for high-speed photography - applied to time as the microscope and telescope have been applied to space." The grouping offered here was sent in response to a query by Mr. A. L. Stowell of Stanley Rule & Level Company noting: "We believe there are numerous ways in which we could supplement your own staff on development and research problems in the fields of industrial chemisty, physics and engineering, ... We hope you drop by and let us show you our laboratories whenever you are in our vicinity." The grouping from Arthur D. Little included a small photograph freezing a golf ball at the moment of impact which would have been astounding to most industrial engineers at the time. This grouping demonstrates an early and important view into the partnership between industry (brokered by consulting firms like Arthur D. Little) and education (with top notch schools like MIT and Doc Edgerton). In addition it has to be one of the earliest uses of strobe photography in industrial consulting literature. Edgerton would go on to found EG&G (which photographed early atomic bomb work), work in radar, sonar, and many other innovative areas. Arthur D. Little, founded in 1886, is the world's first management consultancy and remains in business today.

The front and rear hessian covers are extraordinarily well-preserved with the graphic black title-stamping still bold. The leather spine is black, supple, and entirely present; bearing a few welts along the length as well as a tiny bit of chipping at the crown. The publisher's typically missing fragile printed black paper over cardboard slipcase is present - tattered, but primarily intact. It has been priced accordingly. It is to Pepler and includes gossip about this book - how Gill refused to do the introduction "only formal reasons given" and Hagreen doing it in his place. He also notes that "Gill seems to be going off the rails badly. His latest is to be taken on by Whiteley's as organizer of a department for the sale of genuine works of art ot the proletariat and bourgeoisie...nothing over 3 guineas!

Amyot, edited and corrected by Paul-Louis Courier. 29 wood engravings by Gwen Raverat. One of 290 copies on Batchelor handmade paper, there were 20 copies printed on vellum. Initials hand drawn in blue by Graily Hewitt and his assistants. Printed in Ptolemy type with marginal notes in red. 4to., original vellum backed green paper covered boards with stamp designed by Raverat in gilt on upper cover, in the original patterned paper covered slipcase (worn at extremities), uncut. Very slight bumping to the corners, otherwise an extremely good copy. Chelsea, Ashendene Press. 1933. Together with 8 pages from the printing on Japanese vellum, rescued from the offset sheets. These leaves include 2 Raverat illustrations and pages 1-2, 7-8, 155-6 & 161-2. The edition on paper was Hornby's second attempt at this work, the first being printed on Japanese vellum. Due to the ink's very slow drying on the Japanese paper, the sheets were packed before they were ready, leading to very bad offset on most of them. Hornby declared that he destroyed all except 10 copies of this edition. At the second attempt he abandoned the Japanese paper in favour of the easier Batchelor paper used here. A very good copy a handsomely illustrated Ashendene. It is a complete departure from the previous books and a triumph, forming a fitting end to the Press, this being the last work, apart from the bibliography, to be printed there. Der Brief ist kurz nach der Machtergreifung durch Hitler geschrieben. „Liebe Fee | Ich glaube wenn Sie selbst sehen würden wie wir darben, Sie würden nicht erst diesen Brief zu lesen brauchen. Nie fragten Sie, wie es mir geht und eine tiefe Enttäuschung pflanzten Sie gerade in mein Herz. Ich habe die letzten zwei Jahre nichts getan wie alles was ich eben erringen konnte, geteilt. Die Not – zum Weinen unter uns Künstlern. Aber für mich will ich nichts – ich bin so gewöhnt der Askese, aber, Fee, denken Sie zwei junge Mädchen, deren Mutter so gut zu mir war und zu unserem Päulchen – verhungern. Sie sind so dünn geworden, ich weiss, sie könnten nichts mehr in dem Zustand aushalten. Stellungen keine zu haben momentan, ich habe nun zwei Jahre ihnen gegeben, leider so wenig, daß ich nichts behielt, wie 15-25 Pfg zu essen behielt täglich. Aber das ist nicht schlimm, es ist gewiss Gottes Wille und man muß sich fügen – nicht aus Schwäche, aus Stärke. Glauben sie mir, mich hat es einsichtig gemacht. Ich habe auch immer meinen früheren Mädchen der Hedwig die kleine Miete gezahlt für ihre Treue. – noch immer mit Mühe. Aber seit einer Woche können sie meine Lyrik nicht mehr, begreiflicherweise – drucken. Mietschulden über 10 Wochen. Die wird ich schon wo vielleicht besorgen.       Munich: Bremer Presse, [1933]. Handsomely produced catalogue of a unparalleled Lear collection. No.45 of 155 copies, signed by the author. 5 landscapes hand coloured by Annette von Eckardt, numerous superb phototypes printed by J.B. Obernetter. Printed on Zanders handmade paper. Folio, original linen backed holland boards with the stamp of the Bremer Presse binder Frieda Thiersch, printed paper spine label. Very mild fading to the edges of the boards, otherwise a very good copy. With 4 page prospectus from the New York distributors of the book Duttons inserted loose. The collection includes first editions of Lear, original water colour drawings, sketch books and manuscript diaries. The book includes a new interpretation of Lear's life based on the diaries.

Dessen Frau, die bedeutende Sopranistin Selma Kurz-Halban, war am 10.5.1933 verstorben. Ihr von Fritz Wotruba auf dem Wiener Zentralfriedhof gestaltetes Grabdenkmal, eine „Grosse Liegende", sollte 1934 eine heftige Kontroverse auslösen, da es neben dem Grab des Theologen und christlich-konservativen Bundeskanzlers Ignaz Seipel stand.
