Certaine Experiments Concerning Fish and Fruite. [Introduction by Eric Parker.]

An extremely hard book to find, particularly because it does not appear to be a Derrydale Press item. Indeed it was printed in England and the title page has only short two lines at the bottom stating: Eugene V. Connett, "The Derrydale Press", New York City, 124 East 34th Street, Telephone Caledonia 1961." Siegel 10; Frazier T-1-a; Robb, Notable Angling Literature, pp. 90-91 (for first ed.) Original gray boards, cloth spine with paper label on upper cover. Some very slight soiling and rubbing to the tips, otherwise a fine copy. In custom half brown morocco clamshell box.         Armenia and the Near East.

London: George Allen & Unwin Ltd,, 1928. Octavo. Original green cloth, gilt lettered spine. With the dust jacket. Frontispiece and 16 other monochrome plates from photographs, folding map, head-piece, plans to the text. Price-clipped jacket with slight loss at head and tail of spine, a couple of closed-tears to front panel, peripheral light creasing, touch of foxing to fore edge, yet still an excellent copy. First edition in English, first impression, originally published in Norwegian in the previous year; copies in the dust jacket are very scarce. Armenia and the Near East relates to Nansen's last, and perhaps most problematic humanitarian effort on behalf of the League of Nations, the attempt to save the refugee remnant of the Armenian people, and the establishment of a homeland for them within Soviet Armenia. The plan was never implemented, but the Nansen International Office for Refugees later settled some 10,000 in Erivan and 40,000 in Syria and Lebanon.
