Vienna: Edizione Privata, , 1925. Legatura con punto metallico (stapled binding). Ottimo (Fine). Testo in tedesco. pp. 22,5x15. Ottimo (Fine). .

[France : circa 1925]. Watercolour on paper, 170 x 170 mm, signed in full by the artist at lower right; matted and framed. An original untitled work by the greatArt Déco commercial artist Georges Lepape. Lepape was trained at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1910 he began his long association with the haute couturedesigner Paul Poiret, illustrating the exclusive publicationLes choses de Paul Poiret. Vues par George Lapape (1911).He also started to produce illustrations for other leading fashion houses such as Lanvin, Doucet, Paquin and Worth. In 1916 he designed the famous cover of the first British edition ofVogue magazine. The first major exhibition of Lepape's work was held in 1920 at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs. Throughout the 1920s he was illustrator for publisher Lucien Vogel's Gazette du Bon Ton, and it was during this period that he further developed his distinctive story-telling style. Lepape was also in high demand in the French theatre world, where his commissions included work for the Ballets Russes. He continued to illustrate for major firms such as Vogue, Vanity Fair and Hermès right up until his death. Major retrospectives of Lepape's work have been staged at the Palais Grenvelle (1963), Musée des Arts Décoratifs (1966) and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (1971).

A very good copy. ‘The first title to appear under the imprint of The Fanfrolico Press’. Arnold 5. Hugh McCrae's copy, with a lengthy inscription tipped-in by him on the front free endpaper 'Lysistrata. The first book from the Fanfrolico Press (now out of print) has become famous not only for its excellence of book design and the refreshing grace and vitality of the drawings, but also because the translator has captioned the echoing laughter and unashamedness of the Greek original and made this book a manifesto of Hellenic joy to a tired and muddled modern world - a manifesto of love versus war : a statement that in delighted sex lies the only answer to the impulse of hate. Only sixty-four copies printed.'. A superb association copy of a rare edition.

        Neil and Tintinnabulum

ONE OF ONLY 12 COPIES, BY THE AUTHOR OF PETER PAN. Privately Printed. [1925]. Royal octavo, original light green card covers printed in black, tied with a cream silk cord at spine fold, untrimmed, wrappers slightly creased with an abrasion mark on the front, pp [ii], 31; with 3 illustrations after engravings, signed L.W.; early inscription to the first blank; a very good copy. Privately printed in an edition of just 12 copies, as stated on the limitation page. The handful of copies located in international libraries suggest that very few copies remain in private hands. Copies are listed at the British Library and National Library of Scotland and on OCLC at Harvard; Indiana; Yale, and Stanford. No copies are held in Australian collections. Neil and Tintinnabulum is an autobiographical short story described as being “as intimate as it is unknown” by Andrew Birkin in his biography J.M. Barrie and the Lost Boys (Constable, 1979). It sheds light on the author’s relationship with Michael Llewellyn Davies (renamed Neil in the story) and is written from the standpoint of his godfather, who represents Barrie himself. It begins, for example, with the narrator chaperoning Neil on his first day at school, just as Barrie had accompanied Michael many years earlier.

Fine. Lucien Vogel éditeur, Paris 1925, 18x24cm, relié. - Set of eight original prints in color, drawn on laid paper. The boards are introduced by a text signed LRF Sketches L, LII, LIII, LV, are signed David, respectively on the lower right and left boards. Original prints made ??for the illustration of The Gazette fashionable, one of the finest and most influential twentieth century fashion magazines, celebrating the talent of creators and artists French burgeoning art deco. Famous fashion magazine founded in 1912 by Lucien Vogel, The Gazette fashionable appeared until 1925 with an interruption during the War of 1915 to 1920, due to mobilization of its editor. She is 69 Deliveries from just 2000 copies and is illustrated including 573 color plates and 148 sketches depicting models of fashion designers. Upon publication, these luxury publications "are for bibliophiles and worldly aesthetes" (Françoise Tétart-Vittu "good Gazette of tone" in the fashion dictionary, 2016). Printed on fine laid paper, they use a typeface created specifically for the magazine by Georges Peignot, the Cochin character, taken in 1946 by Christian Dior. The prints are made with the technique of metal stencil, enhanced color and some outlined in gold or palladium. The adventure began in 1912 when Lucien Vogel, man of the world and fashion - it has already participated in Femina magazine - decided to found with his wife Cosette de Brunhoff (John's sister, the father of Babar) Gazette good tone in which the subtitle is then "Art, fashions and frivolities." Georges Charensol quotes the editor: "In 1910, he observed, there was no truly artistic fashion magazine and representative of the spirit of his time. So I thought of making a glossy magazine with truly modern artists [...] I was certain of success because for any fashion country can compete with France. "(" A great art editor. Lucien Vogel "in literary News, No. 133, May 1925). The success of the magazine is immediate, not only in France but also the US and South America. Originally, Vogel therefore brings together a group of seven artists: André-Édouard Marty and Pierre Brissaud, followed by Georges Lepape and Dammicourt; and finally his friends from the School of Fine Arts as are George Barbier, Bernard Boutet de Monvel or Charles Martin. Other talents come quickly reach the equipped Guy Arnoux, Léon Bakst, Benito, Boutet de Monvel, Umberto Brunelleschi, Chas Laborde, Jean-Gabriel Domergue, Raoul Dufy, Edward Halouze Alexander Iacovleff, Jean Emile Laboureur Charles Loupot, Charles Martin, Maggie Salcedo. These artists, mostly unknown when Lucien Vogel appealed to them, will eventually become iconic figures and artistic sought. These are the same illustrators who make the drawings advertisements Gazette. The boards highlight the dresses and sublime seven artists of the time: Lanvin, Doeuillet, Paquin, Poiret, Worth, Vionnet and Doucet. The designers provide for each number of exclusive models. Nevertheless, some of Illustrations contained no real model, but only the idea that the illustrator is done in the fashion of the day. Gazette fashionable is a milestone in the history of fashion. Combining the aesthetic requirement and plastic unit, it brings together for the first time the great talents of the world of arts, literature and fashion and imposed by this alchemy, a new image of women, slender, independent and bold, also driven by the new generation of designers Coco Chanel, Jean Patou, Rochas Marcel ... Recovery in 1920 by Condé Montrose Nast, Gazette fashionable modeled for the new composition and the aesthetic choices of the "little dying newspaper" that Nast had bought a few years ago: the Vogue magazine. Lucien Vogel » in Les Nouvelles littéraires, n°133, mai 1925). D'autres talents viennent rapidement rejoindre l'équipée : Guy Arnoux, Léon Bakst, Benito, Boutet de Monvel, Umberto Brunelleschi, Chas Laborde, Jean-Gabriel Domergue, Raoul Dufy, Édouard Halouze, Alexandre Iacovleff, Jean Émile Laboureur, Charles Loupot, Charles Martin, Maggie Salcedo.
