"Cold Chills" with Louise Fazenda. (Supervised by Jack White. E.W. Hammons Presents a Jack White Production. Educational Pictures "The Spice of the Program".)

Educational Film Exchanges, Inc 1923. () Very good. Original poster. 42" X 28". Verticle crease and three horizontal creases where it was folded. Dark, bold colours and strong imagery. Minimal wear and creasing near edges. A fantastic poster. Dramatic Poster advertising a 1923 short comedy film starring Lige Conley and Louise Fazenda. Fazenda was a gawky, highly popular slapstick funny girl silent film star of the time who starred in several silent shorts and full length films. She started as a Mack Sennett Bathing Beauty. Some of her movie roles include: the Old Maid, A Dream Comes True, and Ever Since Eve. Poster depicts a fantastic image of a maid holding a candle stick. A man in black looks as though he is about to grab her. The expressions on each face are comedically extreme. A great old film poster!.

Der Fasciculus Medicinae des Johannes de Ketham.

      - Monumenta Medica, 1. Hrsg. v. Henry E. Sigerist. - Mailand, E.Lier & Co., 1923. Gr.-Folio, (36 pp. mit 6 Holzschnitten), pp.37-57, (3) pp., 4 Abb., mont. 13 Tafeln, orig. Man darf wohl sagen monumental. - 7.: - Desgleichen .         FRENCH ENGRAVINGS OF THE EIGHTEENTH CENTURY IN THE COLLECTION OF JOSEPH WIDENER, LYNNEWOOD HALL

Privately printed at the Chiswick Press, London 1923 - A Vast, Beautifully Bound Work with More than 150 Large-Folio Plates. 403 x 283 mm (15 7/8 x 11 1/8"). Four volumes. Compiled by Edward Clayton. FIRST EDITION. ONE OF 120 COPIES. IMPRESSIVE RED CRUSHED MOROCCO BY RIVIERE & SON (signed on front turn-ins), triple ruled boards, raised bands, spines gilt in seven compartments, three with lettering, four with ornately gilt foliate cornerpieces and a blooming pineapple shrub centerpiece surrounded by star and circle tools, densely gilt inner dentelles, blue silk pastedowns and free endleaves, top edges gilt, in numbered cloth slipcases (one of the slipcases inexpertly taped along the bottom). WITH 153 VERY FINE ENGRAVED PLATES, 62 OF WHICH ARE COLORED. Captioned tissue guards. A BEAUTIFUL SET, with only the most trivial of imperfections. This rare set has great appeal both for the charm and quality of its illustrations and for Edward Clayton's interesting and informed commentary, and the whole beautifully produced and very substantial work is pleasing as a physical object on the shelf. The works are arranged alphabetically by artist, and many of the great names of the French Rococo, such as Boucher and Fragonard, are well represented. As is typical of the era, scenes of daily life among the highest echelons of society predominate (the figures sometimes dressed, for playful sport, in silken shepherd costume), and flirtation is a frequent theme. The final volume has a large section illustrating costume and an index enabling the reader to search by engraver. Late 19th century French lawyer and politician Albert Christophle was the original owner of this collection, which was purchased by American Joseph Early Widener to enhance the Widener family art collection, one of the most notable in the Western hemisphere. The nucleus of the family collection (of which the etchings form only a small part) was gathered by Peter Widener (1834-1915), who began as a modest Philadelphia butcher and became wealthy supplying the Union army with mutton during the Civil War. One of his sons died of typhoid, and another perished on the Titanic, so the entire family fortune went to the remaining son Joseph Widener (1871-1943), in his day one of America's wealthiest men. Joseph devoted himself to horse racing and art collecting, and his impressive gallery at Lynnewood Hall was visited by Spanish and Swedish royalty. In 1941 Widener donated the collection to the American public; the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. was built to house this magnificent artistic treasure. Riviere is considered one of the foremost names in English binding partly because the firm did consistently fine work and partly because it was so long in business. Robert Riviere started out as a bookseller and binder in Bath in 1829, then set up shop as a binder in London in 1840; in 1881, he took his grandson Percival Calkin into partnership, at which time the firm became known as Riviere & Son, and the bindery continued to do business until 1939. In the early part of the 20th century, an intense rivalry between Riviere and Sangorski & Sutcliffe developed, and collectors have reaped immense dividends ever since in the form of more and more elaborate work that was not infrequently of breathtaking beauty.         The Tomb Of Tut-Ankh-Amen

George H. Doran 1923 and 1927, New York - A very clean, bright, attractive and complete two volume set of this dramatic story - the discovery by Howard Carter of King Tut's tomb in the Valley of the Kings. The first volume was co-authored with A. C. Mace and published in 1923. The second volume was produced by Carter alone and published in 1927. Original red cloth with scarab decoration in gilt. Both jackets are complete and virtually as new. Volume one is a shade darker than Volume II but I believe this is the way they were issued and, though the typography and lay-out are identical, somewhat different paper was used for these jackets. Volume I has 104 illustrations from photographs by Harry Burton. Volume II has 153 photographs by Burton. These volumes are virtually as new not only because the condition is so fine, but also for the fact that they both remain largely un-opened with most pages uncut. This two volume set comes with a custom built slip-case with very attractive paper label based on the cover art, affixed to the spine end. An altogether lovely set of one of the great adventure and discovery stories of all time. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

Cartoon panel commemorating the first Opening Day of Yankee Stadium (April 18, 1923)

[New York, 1923]. 11-5/8 x 17 inches. Pen and ink on artist's board, each image captioned; inscribed (ses below), signed ("Thornton Fisher"), and dated ("April 26, 1923") by the artist. Matted and framed; fine . The cartoonist and illustrator Thornton Fisher drew several newspaper comics and panels in the 1910s, including 'Kitty Keys', 'Raising the Family', 'Betty's Brother Bobby' and 'The Marrying of Mary'. He also frequently treated baseball and sporting subjects, and this comic commemoration of the very first opening day at Yankee Stadium, is inscribed by Fisher to yet another legendary name associated with the Yankees: Harry M. Stevens, the famous concessionaire who introduced the hot dog at a baseball game at the Polo Grounds in 1907. When Yankee Stadium opened in 1923, Stevens was already a familiar figure to the players; in fact, Babe Ruth - a passionate lover of hot dogs - considered Stevens a second father. The centerpiece of the composite drawing shows the large figure of Babe Ruth, smiling and cocking his bat, with the caption beneath, "Babe opened the Yank Stadium by Poking a Home Run in the 4th, Scoring Dugan and Ward." Nowadays, of course, Yankee Stadium is known as "The House That Ruth Built." Fisher's inscription reads: "To my good friend Harry M Stevens from his sincerely and merrily / Thornton Fisher / April 26th / 1923" A priceless association, and a superb memento of the birth of a baseball legend
