Historians of fine press printing have compared him to William Blake. This collection of Wall's scrapbooks, publications, and correspondence was built by collector Natalie Williams of Marshall, Texas.

        A Treatise on Probability

London: Macmillan & Co., 1921. Book. Good. Hardcover. 8vo - over 7¾. A Treatise on Probability was published by John Maynard Keynes while at Cambridge University in 1921. The Treatise attacked the classical theory of probability and proposed a "logical-relationist" theory instead. In a 1922 review, Bertrand Russell called it "undoubtedly the most important work on probability that has appeared for a very long time," and a "book as a whole is one which it is impossible to praise too highly. The Treatise is fundamentally philosophical in nature despite extensive mathematical formulations. The Treatise presents an approach to probability that is subject to variation with evidence. Keynes's conception of probability is that it is a strictly logical relation between evidence and hypothesis. Keynes, in chapter 3 of the TP, used the example of taking an umbrella in case of rain to express the idea of uncertainty that he dealt with by the use of interval estimates in chapters 3, 15, 16, and 17 of the TP. Intervals that overlap are not greater than, less than or equal to each other. They can't be compared. Is our expectation of rain, when we start out for a walk, always more likely than not, or less likely than not, or as likely as not? I am prepared to argue that on some occasions none of these alternatives hold, and that it will be an arbitrary matter to decide for or against the umbrella. If the barometer is high, but the clouds are black, it is not always rational that one should prevail over the other in our minds, or even that we should balance them, though it will be rational to allow caprice to determine us and to waste no time on the debate. .

[T]he short story proves for Woolf an ideal space of experimentation, in which she questions both traditional views on human perception and conventional forms of writing, thus opening the way to her radical transformation of the novel . . .         Bengal 1921-24

1921 - Oblong 4to. String bound cloth backed brown card boards, handwritten title label to the upper cover. 53 photographs of various sizes, between 20 x 15 cm for some of the scenic shots and 9 x 7 cm for some of the more personal snapshots, some captioned in pencil, mounted on 12 leaves and the rear inner cover. Mild darkening to the covers, very good overall. An interesting collection of amateur photographs illustrating both the country and British colonial life. The early part of the album features scenes in and around Kalchini as well as the Sankosh and Teesta Rivers in Bhutan and West Bengal, with several captioned "Kalimpong Rd". Two photos illustrate the 1922 floods in "Bogra Section", presumably of the nearby Brahmaputra. Some of the more personal snapshots follow, including three images of three British subjects ice skating in Simla in December, 1922. A succeeding group feature wonderful images of some of the same figures at Puri on the coast of Odisha, sporting wonderful conical-shaped rattan swimming hats. The album closes with more family photos, but also some very striking photos of the temple and the festive carriage of Jagannath at Puri plus two of Amingaon back up in Assam - one an atmospheric shot of the Brahmaputra taken from the riverbank.

Massachusetts 1921 - Oblong small quarto. Measuring 7" x 10". Stapled black cloth over stiff paper boards with "Photographs" stamped in gilt on the front board. Contains 262 black and white or sepia-toned gelatin silver photographs measuring between 1" x 1" and 6" x 8", some with captions. Very good album with some chips and tears on the boards and leaves, with near fine photographs some with fading.A photo album compiled by a young woman attending college in Massachusetts beginning in 1919. From street signs it appears she went to Fitchburg Normal School, now Fitchburg State University, in North Central Massachusetts. Many of the photos show the women posed around campus with one photo of the four women huddled together smiling which reads, "fresh freshman," another shows them climbing a sign for Pearl Hill Road. They also visited friends, both men and women, at Harvard. Two photos show members of Fitchburg's girls' basketball team with a caption which reads, "Rah, Rah, Rah!" and another which reads "the victorious five 3 cheers!" Many of the photos show the women posing and being silly with such captions as: "naughty, naughty," "why Vera!," and "asleep at the switch." The women are seen in fashionable outfits, school uniforms, and hats throughout the album. One particularly intriguing image shows a woman, her hat in hand, passionately kissing a female schoolmate with a caption that read: "you mouthwatering Sappho." The women in this set of photos are flirty and smiling and posing on a bridge in a wooded area. After graduating the complier became a school teacher in 1921 and there are photos of her with her class of younger girls posed in a school yard and during a school play. Other photos include family snapshots and vacation photos featuring one of the women posed in her new car and another of a woman with a baseball bat.An compelling collection of photos focusing on a woman's time in college and her relationships with her classmates.

Pictorial end papers. Engraved bookplate of renowned collector Richard Manney on verso of front free-endpaper. A near fine copy chemised in a full tan morocco slipcase. In his chapter "Rackham's Best Book Illustrations 2," Getttings discusses work found within this book as reflective of the artist's maturity and confidence, Rackham's pictures "tending to be less coloured drawings?[and] gradually becoming more and more like paintings" (Gettings, Arthur Rackham, p.139)."The appearance of Eden Phillpotts' A Dish of Apples brought a characteristically appreciative letter from its author to the artist: 'I am immensely pleased at the charm & originality of your most attractive drawings. The humor of them especially drew me.' Rackham was achieving a new harmony of colour, his drawings for A Dish of Apples, to quote an American admirer Martin Birnbaum, being 'light and sparkling with a passionate rose, glowing greens and primrose yellow'' (Hudson, Arthur Rackham His Life and Work, pp. 118-119."Eden Phillpotts (4 November 1862 - 29 December 1960) was an English author, poet and dramatist. He was born in Mount Abu, British India, educated in Plymouth, Devon, and worked as an insurance officer for 10 years before studying for the stage and eventually becoming a writer. He co-wrote two plays with his daughter Adelaide Phillpotts. He was the author of many novels, plays and poems about Dartmoor. His Dartmoor cycle of 18 novels and two volumes of short stories still has many avid readers despite the fact that many titles are out of print.Phillpotts wrote many other books with a Dartmoor setting. He was for many years the President of the Dartmoor Preservation Association and cared passionately about the conservation of Dartmoor. One of his novels, Widecombe Fair, inspired by an annual fair at the village of Widecombe-in-the-Moor, provided the scenario for his comic play The Farmer's Wife. It went on to become a silent movie of the same name, directed by Alfred Hitchcock and filmed in 1927. The cast included Jameson Thomas, Lillian Hall-Davis, Gordon Harker and Gibb McLaughlin.Phillpotts was a friend of Agatha Christie, who was an admirer of his work and a regular visitor to his home. Jorge Luis Borges was another admirer." (Wikipedia).Latimore and Haskell, p. 54. Riall, p. 144. Gettings, p. 179. Hudson, p. 170. [Attributes: Signed Copy]
