        Dormant

London: Methuen. London, Methuen, 1911. Second Edition. First Impression. A nice copy in the rare jacket, and bearing Nesbit's ex-libris plate to the front pastedown. One can perhaps assume then that the present copy was Nesbit's own copy, which she and those after her have kept in very good shape. Second edition indicated on the copyright page as November 1911. The jacket is largely complete with a little chipping and a few short tears, but remarkable given the age (and the fact it appears to have been unprotected). Book itself has a little spotting to the foreedge. A nice copy. One of three Nesbit books in Bleiler. Single leaf of ads laid in. [5754, Hyraxia Books]. . Near Fine. Hardback. Second Edition. 1911.

Bon exemplaire. [Attributes: Hard Cover]

Mabileau & Co. Paris 1911 - Hand-coloured pochoir print. Image size (including text): 15 3/8 x 32 1/2 inches. Sheet size: 17 3/4 x 35 1/2 inches. The company of Delage was very successful. This design, with a 6,234 cc 130 bhp motor, won the 1914 Indianapolis 500, driven by Rene Thomas. Thomas' average speed was 82.47 miles per hour. The Gamy-Montaut prints document various historical events in the early history of motorized transportation, including Power Boat Racing, Motorcycle and Motor Car Racing, Motor Car Touring, Zeppelins and Airplanes. Having observed the rapidly growing interest in cars and racing during the early years of motor cars, Ernest Montaut ( 1879-1909) produced his first motoring prints in the mid-1890s, and by 1897, his drawings were pictorial records of the many races in France. Montaut's work was extremely well received in the Paris of his day and was shown in the fashionable shops of the Rue de l'Opera and Rue de la Paix, as well as in the better galleries. Marguerite M. Montaut, Ernest's wife, continued his work after his death producing not only racing prints but also developing a fine series of aviation prints commemorating such events as the first flights on the early European mail routes. While Marguerite Montaut's works were occasionally signed "M. Montaut", she usually used "Gamy", an anagram for Magy. The Gamy-Montaut prints were all produced by the pochoir process in which the outlines for each image were drawn onto lithographic stones and printed. Using these uncoloured prints as a template, elaborate stencils were cut for each colour. Water-colour was then brushed onto the image through the stencil. The colouring process was quite complex, with each print taking several days to produce. It was also quite labour intensive, and the studio of Gamy-Montaut therefore employed a group of trained artists, including Nevil and Campion, to assist in the colouring. [Attributes: Signed Copy]

In 1911 Evans-Wentz published his degree thesis as this book which has gone through numerous reprintings, at least as recently as 1977.***DESCRIPTION: Fully bound in evergreen ribbed cloth, gilt vignette to the front with various symbols contained within a wheel, including a shamrock, thistle and the Welsh dragon; the spine has a gilt vignette of the rising sun within Stonehenge and gilt lettering; top edge gilt; the front pastedown has the private library stamp of the Sufi temple from whom we acquired the book; frontispiece a vintage photograph of the stones of Carnac in 1909, title page in red and black, nine-page Index at the rear; octavo size (just over 8.5" tall), pagination: (i)-xxviii, (1)-524.***CONDITION: The book is now near fine; when acquired it had several condition issues which we had addressed by a professional restorer (name available upon request).         2 je 2-seitige, eigenhändige Briefe und ein eigenhändig gewidmetes Foto von [19]37, beide Briefe im Format DIN A5, jeweils einfach gefaltet, IN FRANZÖSISCHER SPRACHE

Book on the Horse. Handbook for each Horse-Master, Breeder, Horse Owner and Horse Lover].

Russkoe knizhnoe tovarischestvo "Deiatel" S.-Peterburg 1911 - Octavo (26 x 17.5 cm). VIII pp., including half title and title, 744, VIII pp., with 8 plates; 642, XXII pp., with 8 plates and 1 double page table, with multiple illustrations in text; marginal brown spotting to some pages, occasional inscriptions and underlines in pencil, corner of pp. 223-224 in vol 1 torn affecting text. Original publisher's half calf over marbled boards, gilt lettering to flat spines; slightly rubbed, corners bumped, each vol. of slightly different colour. One of the most influential pre-revolutionary Russian horse books, here in its third edition, revised and enlarged. Count Sergey Urusov (1854–1915), a recognized specialist and an honorary Chairman of the Russian Society of Horse Breeding, spent more than a quarter of a century researching Russian horse breeds and establishing the treatments and conditions required for the successful breeding. Surprisingly, there was hardly any substantial scientific literature in the Russian language available on the subject, which led Urusov to a decision to produce the present work. His initial idea was to simply translate a popular German work titled "Das Buch vom Pferde" by Carl Wrangel, which provided information on all the aspects of horse care, breeding and racing. As he progressed with his work, Urusov started to realize that German text was not be fully applicable in the conditions of Russian climate, local soil and infrastructure. The Urusov's work proved to be extremely successful and useful exactly because the author applied his experience and knowledge and adapted the text to the local conditions and specificity of the Russian breeds.         Iris.

      - Radierung, Marxzell 1911, auf chamoisfarbenem Velin, signiert. 18,8:22,3 cm. Literatur: Beringer 118, II.
