Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam

London: Hodder and Stoughton, 1909. London: Hodder and Stoughton, 1909. The First Edition Online Bookstore has the rare and collectable Edmund Dulac Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam book for sale. Edmund Dulac Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam was rendered into English verse by Edward Fitzgerald. This is a lovely and highly collected Edmund Dulac first edition illustrated book of Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam that was published by Hodder and Stoughton in October 1909. The original cream thick buckram boards have lettering in gilt with the front board stamped in gilt with a wreath which features peacocks at the top and elephants at the bottom. The boards are in Very Good condition with only slight marks to the front board and more extensive marks to the back board; and the spine has partial darkening but with the gilt lettering and decoration still bright and visible. These are an extremely attractive set of white boards that usually exhibit far more wear, marks and fading. This is a very collectable set of boards for this very collectable Edmund Dulac illustrated book. The pages are unpaginated with the text bordered in a narrow brown and cream leaf design; with all 20 tipped-in colour plates and captioned tissue guards present, with the plates bordered in a design of stylized pineapples and palms. The pages are in Very Good condition with slight and very light and occasional spotting to the pages throughout, not affecting the plates, which are all present and in Fine condition and are complete with their captioned tissue guards. This Edmund Dulac Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam is internally very attractive and will make a wonderful addition to any Edmund Dulac book collection. This is an excellent example of the highly collectable Edmund Dulac Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam and will make a wonderful addition to any Edmund Dulac book collection or any illustrated book collection. Ball der Stadt Wien 1909 (cover title). Gedentage aus dem Jahre 1809. Eine Erinnerung den Damen Wiens gewidmet vom Ballkomitee der Stadt Wien.,

Vienna, 1909. - 7 1/4 x 6 1/4. 14 leaves of heavy stock, with tissue guards: dedication to the Ladies, tribute to Haydn, and 12 color lithographs, hinged into binding. Bound by Wilhelm Melzer in white kidskin, upper cover richly stamped in gold, black & red; elaborate endpapers; all edges gilt. The original cardboard box covered in a Jugendstil design paper still has the (usually missing) ribbon handles; these are soiled & fraying. Corners of the box are worn & missing tiny bits of paper. The book is fine. Elaborate souvenir given to the ladies attending the State ball. It commemorates two important events of 1809: the death of Josef Haydn and the Austrian victory over Napoleon's forces. Two of Geyling's 2 lovely color lithographs celebrate the life of Josepf Haydn. One portrays Haydn's last day at the piano. Ten lithographs celebrate The Citizen's Grenadier Division and victory over Napoleon. Geyling (1878-1974) was a major stage & costume designer, and a member of the Wiener Werkstatte. Haydn, the "Father" of Viennese classicism, is credited with redefining the string quartet. He died a few days after the battle of Asparn. This municipal ball was immmortalized in a painting by Wilhelm Gause. [Attributes: Hard Cover]

Berlin, Wasmuth, 1909/ 1910.. 2 Bände. EA.

Wells Gardner & Darton , 1909. Wells Gardner & Darton , 1909. First UK edition, suppressed issue from the American sheets with no erratum or cancels, preceding all other English issues. Original green cloth titled in gilt in (possibly supplied) orange dustwrapper printed in green. Top edge gilt. Publisher's presentation inscription on the half title. A very good copy, with the spine a little faded, in a very good dustwrapper indeed, which is clean and crisp with a slightly tanned spine. Originally printed for John Lane in New York, who issued it under their imprint in 1909. A portion of the sheets allocated to the UK market, however, contained errors and the UK edition was not issued for general circulation until these were corrected in February 1910. Some uncorrected copies were bound up with an integral title page and without cancels, including this copy and the British Library copy. The exact number is not known, but certainly this issue is of great scarcity. Sullivan 17 (note)
