Elsa Lanchester Autograph. Bride of Frankenstein With Original Signature Cut.

      - Beautiful 8 x 10 black and white full pose photograph of Lanchester as The Bride from Bride of Frankenstein, with large clean signature, 6 x 3 inches in window at bottom, professionally double-matted in red and black, tiny bit of wear at corners, no real affect, still near fine. Comes with original COA from The Genuine Article, a well known and trusted firm from the UK. A beautiful and rare piece, one of a kind, most suitable for framing. Elsa Lanchester (1902-1986), actress best known for her role as The Bride (aka Monsters Mate), in Bride of Frankenstein (1935), she also played author Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley in the same film. She was nominated for best supporting actress in 1949 for the film Come to the Stable. Lanchester is credited with over 100 roles in front of the camera with dozens of characters on the big screen and two decades of television work for various shows. Lanchester was hand picked by her friend, and the director of Frankenstein (1931) and The Invicible Man (1933), James Whale - to specifically portray the role of The Bride and Mary Shelley for The Bride of Frankenstein. Lanchester played the role with brilliance through painful costumes of wrapped bandages and heavy makeup, her eyes kept taped up for long periods of time, and the famous long hair combed over a wire mesh cage. Many consider The Bride of Frankenstein the best of the golden age horror films. 12 x 16 inches, matted. Signature cut: 6 x 3 inches.

John Wisden's Cricketers' Almanack for 1902 - 1902 Original Hardback Wisden, Very Good Condition

1902. Hi, This lot is an 1902 Original Hardback Wisden. In Superb condition The first Hardback that Wisden produced was in 1896, this is the seventh year of the hardback and a year I have found hard to find recently, especially in this condition. The front board is very clean with excellent, extremely bright gilt, one tiny mark to the top, the rear board is near perfect and the spine gilt is very bright and original. The hinges are very strong and the yellow pastedowns in top condition and very bright yellow. The photoplate is very good and internally a nice clean book. As good as mine on my shelf. The only downside and it is a bit picky is there is a tiny indentation to the edge of the rear board where a band has been around it. A rare Wisden in superb condition (++) and a very nice price.

        The Hound of the Baskervilles

London: George Newnes, 1902 First edition, first printing, with "you" for "your" on p. 13. Illustrated by Sidney Paget. Publisher's decorative red cloth binding designed by Alfred Garth Jones, ruled and titled in gilt with a hound's silhouette stamped in black, surrounded by a gilt floral design; lacking dust jacket. A very good copy, slightly shaken, with some sunning to spine and light wear to extremities, light foxing to top edge, front hinge very slightly starting at half-title, front pastedown with contemporary ownership signature and residue of now-removed label and rubber stamp, front free endpaper with small blind-stamp. Overall, an attractive copy with a clean text block and a bright, decorative binding. Green and Gibson A26. The Hound of the Baskervilles is Doyle's third novel to feature the well-known detective character Sherlock Holmes. Though the author had intended his second Holmes novel, The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes (1894), to be the last, he continued the story into a third book after public demand, despite the ending of the second, in which Holmes falls to his death in the concluding story, "The Final Problem." The most popular of the Holmes cannon, The Hound of the Baskervilles purports to be an episode earlier in the detective's career, prior in chronology to "The Final Problem." The story tells of a murder mystery at the Baskerville Hall country house that involves the Baskerville family's superstition surrounding a hellhound myth. The plot was largely inspired by Doyle's golfing holiday at Cromer in Norfolk in the spring of 1901, where he spent time with a young journalist friend named Bertram Fletcher Robinson, who told Doyle a legend about a haunting ghost hound in the moors of Dartmoor. Like his previous two Holmes novels, The Hound of the Baskervilles is illustrated in black and white by Sidney Paget. Alfred Garth Jones (1872-1955) was an English artist, illustrator, and book designer whose style is hallmarked by his bold, thick lines and his Art Nouveau aesthetic. Trained in both Manchester and Paris, Jones created many types of book art, including illustrations, bookplates, binding designs, and page decorations. . First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good.
