I as well as another front endpaper and vol. III's title page. Occasional thumbing. Some red underlining or marks in Preface of vol. I. In the mid-1670s, a French translation appeared of Nicholas Sanders' De origine et progressu schismatio Anglicani libri tres (1585). Sanders attacked the English Reformation which he considered the political act of a corrupt king. Several of Gilbert Burnet's friends wished him to publish a rebuttal of the work so in 1679 the first volume of this work was published, covering the reign of Henry VIII. Vol. II, appearing in 1681, covers the reign of Elizabeth. Vol. III consists of corrections and additional material. Parliament voted thanks for Burnet after the publication of the first volume and, in 1680, Oxford awarded Burnet the degree of doctor of divinity. Burnet's literary reputation was greatly enhanced by this publication which remained the standard reference work in the field for over a century. Catholics, not surprisingly, dispute some of its content.

De rivier de Merwede, ... Including: No. 3. Caarte ofte afteckening van de rivier de Merwede ...[The Hague, National Printing Office, 1730]. An engraved map of the river Merwede, the main map (53.5 x 124.5) on two sheets at a scale of 1:10,000, together with a separate engraved overview map (22 x 63 cm) with diagrams showing river depth and dike profiles, and tidal and seasonal changes in the water level. Framed (64.5 x 134 & 64.5 x 74 cm).

V.d. Brink, Hollandse rivierkartog. 8; Koeman, Handleiding, p. 103, no. 123. Engraved map commissioned by the Provincial Council of Holland, of the river Merwede by Nicolaas Cruquius, showing the area between Sliedrecht/Hardinxveld to Gorinchem, including parts of the Biesbosch, accompanied by an overview map showing the river though a larger area from Dordrecht to Gorinchem. This map, the most influential river map of its time, demonstrates the high quality of Dutch institutional cartography in the 18th century. It set a standard for Dutch river mapping and, closely related, determined the parameters of the topographical research that should always accompany it. The main purpose of the map was to help find a solution to the frequent flooding in a vast low-lying area along the south river bank called the Biesbosch, problems that had plagued the region chronically since a 15th-century dike breach that was never fully rectified. A fine of an unsurpassed river map and a landmark of Dutch cartography.

In 1697, Seutter began his studies in Nuremberg and subsequently worked in the publishing house of Jeremias Wolff in Augsburg. In 1710, he established his own publishing house and print shop. The Seutter publishing house produced a great number of maps, atlases, and globes. However, very few original maps were printed there, as Augsburg at that time had no university and no connection to the fields of mathematics or the natural sciences. Seutter therefore copied the work of other cartographers, making his own engravings based on their models. Over 500 maps were produced in his studio. Seutter's most well-known works are the 1725 "Geographical Atlas or an Accurate Depiction of the Whole World" ("Atlas Geographicus oder Accurate Vorstellung der ganzen Welt") with 46 maps, the 1734 "Large Atlas" ("Grosser Atlas") with 131 maps, and the 1744 pocket atlas "Small Atlas" ("Atlas minor") with 64 maps. Matthäus Seutter died in 1757. Seutter's son Albrecht Karl, his son-in-law Conrad Tobias Lotter, and his business partner Johann Michael Probst ran the printing business for five more years.

He also printed many maps that were often out of print, which he reissued. Some of his most popular maps were of the African continent, detailing locations such as Morocco and Madagascar. Many of his later works were printed for the general public in French and Dutch.Pieter van der Aa began his career at Leiden in 1683 as a Latin trade publisher, publishing classical texts pertaining to medicine and science. As he progressed, he began to publish atlases and maps, compiling numerous multi-volume collections of works. His ambition to become Leiden's most famous printer was fulfilled in 1715 with his appointment to head printer for the city and its university. One of Pieter van der Aa's largest compilations relates to the history of Italy and Sicily, an area of immense personal interest. Though he took credit for many of his compilations, several, such as the Dutch collection of travels to the East and West Indies, were admittedly simple improvements to others' works.
