MEMOIRS OF A PEG-TOP. By the author of Adventures - (KILNER, Mary Ann.) - 1780.
111 pages. Illustrated with an engraved frontispiece and 27 woodcuts in the text. Original Dutch floral boards. Almost certainly the first edition, as the majority of copies located have 108 pages, which would normally indicate a later printing. Re-backed at some time; frontispiece and last leaf laid down; boards worn and rubbed; the occasional mark; else a very good copy of a classic 18th century title. Mary Ann Kilner (nee Maize, was the childhood friend of Thomas and Dorothy Kilner.' She married Thomas in 1774. Her first book, Familiar Dialogues for the Instruction and Amusement of Children of Four and Five years Old, was publishedin 1781. Her most famous work, The Adventures of a Pincushion, was published approximately two years later.
