The Ceremonies of a Japanese Marriage - TAMAMURA, Kozaburo; TAKAGI, Tejiro - 1910.
1910. TAMAMURA. The Ceremonies of a Japanese Marriage. Illustrated title-page with 19 leaves of plates, all hand-coloured collotypes. Oblong 8vo., 180 x 255 mm, bound in a Japanese style black silk binding with red ties. Kobe: Tamamura, 1910. |~||~||~||~| First published in 1905, this is a reissue. A fine example of the work from the studio of one of Japan's most successful photographers Tamamura Kozaburo (1856-1923). Like the albums of photographs produced in great quantities at this time, this book provides an excellent view of aspects of Japanese life at the beginning of the twentieth century. The work follows a bride and groom as they proceed through the specifics of Japanese marriage, from the meeting with the matrimonial broker through the simple yet elegant ceremony. A fine copy of a fragile book.
