Full tan calf prize binding by Maclehose, red title label to spine, extra gilt decoration to spine compartments, gilt rule and gilt badge of Glasgow University to front board. Light edgewear and rubbing. A sound, clean and handsome copy. Marbled endpapers with latin prize presentation label inscribed to George Mitchel to front pastedown SIGNED 'Gul. Thomson' (Gul. being the abbreviation for William in latin). Books signed in the name of Thomson are unusual; it was far more common for him to sign 'Kelvin. PNP'. A scarce object in an attractive prize binding.
