London: Methuen & Co., 1897 - One volume extended to two, large quarto (304 x 205 mm). Contemporary black-straight grain morocco for Brentano's of New York, with gilt Napoleonic tools (monogram within laurel wreath, bee, and imperial eagle) on spines and sides, spines gilt in compartments, gilt-lettered direct in two compartments and at foot, sides with gilt border built up from leaf sprays and fleurons, marbled doublures and endpapers, turn-ins gilt all round, gilt edges. A fine copy. Frontispiece, 12 photogravure plates, numerous illustrations in the text; extra-illustrated with 179 engraved portraits, plates, views, and maps from various sources, some with original hand-colour, inlaid, with plain thin paper guards. Specially printed individual title-pages in red and black. A magnificent extra-illustrated set of Baring-Gould's biography of Napoleon, which was published the same year in a single quarto volume.
