THE PRINCIPLES OF NATURE, HER DIVINE REVELATIONS - Davis, Andrew Jackson - 1858.
NY: Charles Partridge - 1858 (1st 1847), tall octavo, publ's dark brown blind-embossed cloth, gilt lettered spine, XXII+[II]+786+4pp, b & w steel engraved portrait frontispiece, index, nice copy, corner tips a bit exposed, faint spot on back cover but an unusually nice copy, binding tight, text clean, no chips or tears to spine ends. Nearly every copy I've had is worn out and defective.Rare, Davis' first and most controversial book, and arguably his most important. Besides his epochal career as a seer Davis was a Boston dealer in old books, and worked as an herbalist. The portrait frontis is reproduced in a number of titles and appears here for the first time. The last four pages of "testimonies" (apparently not included in the 1st ed) is Davis' defense against the accusations of Bush. Detailed entry on this book in Melton's Enc of Occultism. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
