Page / with cordial greetings from / William F. Friedman / Elizabeth Smith Friedman / London / 4 October 1957 [squiggle]." A famous cryptographer who broke Japan's Purple code, William corresponded with Page about the manuscript and had him review its cryptographic content. Page, too, was experienced wearing two hats (literature and espionage) being a distinguished classical scholar who had headed the British Double-Cross or XX Committee of MI5 during WWII. xvii, 303pp. Original cloth with gilt spine lettering. Near Fine in Very Good dust jacket. Bottom edge a bit scuffed. Jacket slightly chipped along top edge, toned, and a little soiled. A very nice association between friends with common backgrounds in cryptanalysis and literary analysis.
