Emmenologia - Freind, John - 1675. 
- First English Language Edition. Translated by Thomas Dale, M.D. Complete with ad leaf. Very Good in the original calf boards with restored spine skillfully re-backed and with gilt raised bands; hinges reinforced with archival tissue. The 18th century paper is quite bright, only light toning & faint foxing to blank margins; heavier foxing apparent only on blank end papers. Previous owner name on inside front board and interesting ink manuscript annotation on final blank relating to Purgatives, Camphine dosages, etc. John Freind (1675-1728) was an English physician and his Emmenologia is the first treatise written specifically on menstruation. He was a lecturer on chemistry at Oxford and accompanied the English army under Charles Mordaunt into Spain. In 1716, Freind became a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians where we was chosen as a censor & orator.
