Mark Twain's Letters - Twain, Mark [Clemens, Samuel] [Paine, Albert - 1917.
Harper and Brothers, New York 1917 - A Fine copy of this two-volume set of Mark Twain's Letters, the same being arranged and commented upon by Albert Bigelow Paine, and being one of 350 sets of this Large Paper Edition, illustrated. Chemised and slipcased, the Volumes are in Fine condition with each volume showing a mild bump / binding defect to its front board's upper right corner. Volume II lacks the tissue guard to its frontispiece. The set wears a Very Good or better example of the rare dust jackets which, being oversized (as issued), in addition to water spotting to the spine panels, show some wear and tear to the portions which overlap the board edges and spine ends. Each dust jacket also shows some additional edge tearing with some of the tears stabilized by archival tape applied to the verso. The two-volume trade edition was bound in red cloth and copies of it are, in our experience, far from common. Copies of this Limited edition -- bound with a cloth spine and paper-covered boards -- of which only 350 were issued, are quite scarce indeed and copies in their original dust jackets (in any condition) are somewhere between being as scarce as hen's teeth and RARE. An EXCELLENT SET OF THE 350-COPY LIMITED EDITION IN THEIR ORIGINAL DUST JACKETS which are, in our experience, RARE INDEED. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
