One sheet of 8- by 10-inch paper, WITH three sheets of 7- by 9-inch paper. $3000.Typed letter signed by Winston Churchill, to his literary agents, authorizing the sale of serialization rights of his WWI memoirs to The Times. These memoirs became one of his masterworks, The World Crisis.The one-page letter, dated December 29, 1920, to his literary agents, Curtis Brown Limited, reads in full: "Dear Sirs: I hereby authorise you to accept on my behalf the offer contained in the letter to yourselves from the Manager of 'The Times' dated the 21st inst. for the first serial publication rights throughout the British Empire except Canada of my Memoirs. The guarantor required by 'The Times' is (in Churchill's hand) Messrs Cox & Co; & reference shd be made direct to Mr. Oliver Hoare of that bank. Yours faithfully, (signed) Winston S. Churchill." A three-page letter from the manager of The Times to Curtis Brown outlines the details of the serialization agreement. Curtis Brown Limited continues to be one of the most venerable literary agencies in the world. Founded in 1899, their clients have included, in addition to Churchill, Ian Fleming, Daphne du Maurier, A.A. Milne, Samuel Beckett, and Vita Sackville-West.
