Large-8vo, cont. full calf, gilt title to front panel, blind-stamped decorative borders to both panels, raised bands to spine; rebacked with original spine relaid, new leather title label, marbled endpapers, hinges sympathetically reinforced with matching paper; all edges tinted red. Some scattered spotting, plates largely clean, with five affected by some marginal foxing. Book plates of Hanbury Barclay (1836-1909) and Paul Sokoloff (1946-2012), well known British amateur lepidopterist and book collector.. Scarce early printing with highly finished plates with backgrounds also finely coloured. This copy is without the two-page index and four-page 'The Best Methods of Preserving Butterflies and Moths', usually bound at the end.Horn-Schenkling 10965; Nissen ZBI 2053..
