Autograph letter signed to Alan Ross - BLUNDEN, EDMUND - 1955. [1277110]
one page (approximately 375 words) 19 September 1955, Hong Kong University - Blunden - the author of "Cricket Country" - writes to Ross - author of "Australia 55", described by John Woodcock, the editor of Wisden, as "about the best cricket book ever written" - to compliment him on his recent essay 'End of the Season' (a copy having been sent to him by Siegfried Sassoon). He praises Ross for the quality of his writing and goes on to reminisce about his cricket experiences in the UK, mainly on watching Sussex players John Langridge and George Cox 'who should have played for England this season'. He refers to Bates (probably T.L.A. Bates) who 'was very nearly a Hobbs' and to whom Blunden kept wicket when Bates was batting. Reminisces about watching George Cox senior scoring 167n.o. against Hampshire at Chichester in 1906 (Cox's highest score) with G. Leach scoring about 89 "lusty runs" (actually 79). A beautifully written letter with excellent cricket content. Horizontal and vertical folds, minor foxing, otherwiseIn excellent condition.
