Doctor Dogbody's Leg (Volumes 1 & 2) - Hall, James Norman - 1938. 
Redbook Magazine, New York 1938 - Two hardcover volumes in beige cloth boards with title on paper label affixed to front board. No dust jackets, as issued. First editions. Volume One has green cloth spine and a green reading ribbon laid in; volume two has black cloth spine and a black reading ribbon sewn in. Both volumes in very good condition; Volume One has some silverworm damage to rear endpaper. Volume Two has a couple of uncut pages. Both volumes were privately printed for Redbook Magazine in 1938, reprinting stories by Hall that originally appeared in the magazine. Hall is best known as cowriter with Charles Nordhoff of the novel Mutiny on the Bounty. The six stories in Doctor Dogbodys Leg are set in a Portsmouth tavern called the Cheerful Tortoise, where a Royal Navy surgeon tells a series of stories about how he lost his leg during the Napoleonic wars. Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards chose these books as among those few he would take to a desert island. 8vos. 110 pp. Volume One; 112 pp. Volume Two. [Attributes: First Edition; Soft Cover]
