1700 - ILLUMINATED LEAF. Manuscript Koran leaf. Likely Persia, 17th-18th century. Single leaf, measuring 11 by 15 inches, written in black ink and illuminated in red, black, blue, and gold inks; mounted in a card folder, entire piece measures 12-1/2 by 18-1/2 inches. $4800.Lovely 17th or 18th century manuscript Koran leaf, scribed in five lines of black ink in a large muhaqqig hand, with ayah markers in gilt and black and an "ashr divisional marker in gilt and red surrounded by blue flechettes, all relating a key passage from Sura XXIX, The Spider.This lovely Koran leaf, scribed during the 17th or 18th century, features text from Sura XXIX, The Spider, verses 40-41. It includes the key passage: "As in the example of the Spider, who builds a house; but truly the flimsiest of houses is the Spider's house;""If they but knew." The leaf is made of highly polished paper bears five lines of black ink executed in a large muhaqqig hand, vocalized, with ayah markers in gilt and black. There is an "ashr divisional marker in gilt and red, surrounded by blue flechettes. The verso is similar, but lacks the divisional marker. A beautiful leaf in fine condition. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
