A California governor and attorney general, Warren served on the Supreme Court from 1953-1969, a period of great legal change that included Brown v. Board of Education (1954), Gideon v. Wainwright (1963), Reynolds v. Sims (1964), and Miranda v. Arizona (1966). Warren continues to be known for his skill as a Chief Justice""as a court leader rather than a legal scholar. Warren also chaired the eponymous Warren Commission, which was tasked with investigating the Kennedy Assassination.
