As I Lay Dying (+ signed association piece) - Faulkner, William - 1930.
Jonathan Cape Harrison Smith, New York 1930 - Jonathan Cape Harrison Smith. 1930. New York. 254 pages. First edition variant without a dropped I on page 11. Original 1st issue DJ with $2.50 price intact on DJ flap. Laid in is a signed note by author John Grisham on his personal stationary. John Grisham was prompted with the question of which William Faulkner novel to begin with if you had never read William Faulkner before. Mr. Grisham's response: _____, Start with As I Lay Dying then The Reivers. All best, John Grisham. John Grisham is a noted supporter and champion of William Faulkner's work and legacy. Again, this book is not signed by William Faulkner, nor is it signed by John Grisham but laid in is an excellent, unique associative piece regarding As I Lay Dying, constructed and signed by John Grisham on his very own stationary. The book itself is tight and clean. Binding and hinges are strong. Cream colored panels are bright and clean with only minor darkening along binding crease. Pages lay tight; seemingly undisturbed. Reddish topstain. Only minor rubbing and wear to edges. Original 1st issue DJ with $2.50 price intact on flap. DJ shows light soiling and chipping. DJ has been reinforced with backing on the underside and there is old tape reinforcement along front flap fold. I imagine with a little restorative love via a paper conservator, you could further improve the DJ's appearance. A very special and unique offering.
