1989. Group of approximately 32 zines from the feminist Riot Grrrl movement, coinciding with the third wave of feminism, spanning several decades from the late 1980s to the early 2000s, covering a range of taboo and illicit topics including rape, incest, eating disorders, abortion, racism, erotica, and sexuality, most from the United States but with several international examples, together with thirteen photographs from punk shows from the 1990s and six small flyers. Illustrated profusely throughout. Various sizes, most 8vo. Original printed wrpps., issues housed in two contemporary binders. Various cities 1989-2005. The Riot Grrrl underground movement was started in the early 1990s by members of the punk bank Bikini Kill. It combined feminist consciousness with punk style and politics. The zines that comprise this collection include the first two zines produced by Bikini Kill in 1990 and 1991, the first publication of the Riot Grrrl manifesto, and the first issues of Mujeres Libertarias, a Mexican "anarco-feminista" zine.
