Coronation Everest (Signed By The Author - Morris, James (Jan) - 1958.
The First UK printing published by Faber and Faber in 1958. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. Light pushing at the spine ends. Slight rubbing to lower corners and spine folds. Gilt titling remains bright. A little dustiness to the upper text-block. Free from inscriptions and erasures. Very light remnant paper clip mark to the verso of the upper front blank end paper. The scarce paper WRAPPER is not price-clipped and is in Very Good condition. Moderate edge-wear with a chip to the lower rear panel and a small amount of loss at the upper front spine fold. Creasing and rubbing in places but the colouring remains bright. Publishers' black out mark as called for, to the lower front flap eradicating reference to colour plates (none were included in the final publication). The wrapper remains very attractive in the removable Brodart archival cover. The book has been Signed by the author ( as 'Jan Morris') to the title page. The book is accompanied by the very scarce original 'The Times' Supplement : The First Ascent Of Mount Everest issued in July 1953 detailed with B/W photos and text over 32 pages. The supplement is complete and is in Very Good++ or better condition. Toning to the paper stock and mild edge-wear in places. The supplement has also been Signed by Jan Morris to the upper front cover. Morris accompanied Hunt's climbing party as the then anonymous special correspondent of 'The Times'. Morris has gone on to become a highly acclaimed and respected travel writer. A very scarce and collectible set of items marking one of the great mountaineering achievements of the 20th century.
