Large lithographic poster, measuring 38 by 25 inches, mounted on rigid board. $3200.Striking original Peter Max lithographic poster of "Liberty," inscribed, "For Karen Radkai, Love Max, 76." Initiating Max's annual July 4th tradition of painting the Statue of Liberty, this lovely work was produced for the 1976 Bicentennial.For the 4th of July, 1976, Peter Max created a special installation and art book entitled Peter Max Paints America, which contained a painting of each of the 50 states"" in commemoration of America's bicentennial. "It was the year Max also began his annual July 4th tradition of painting the Statue of Liberty. In 1982, Max painted six Liberties on the White House lawn, and then personally helped to actualize the statue's restoration, which was completed in 1986. Max calls himself "America's own most patriotic artist." This large, striking lithographic poster was presented by Max to Vogue photographer Karen Radkai, whose volume of work approached that of Irving Penn.
