THE GALILEE HITCH-HIKER - INSCRIBED TO SHIG MURAO - Brautigan, Richard - 1966.
Cranium Press, San Francisco 1966 - One of 700 copies. Slim octavo (21.5cm); letterpress printed sheets, hand-sewn into red-orange wrappers illustrated by Kenn Davis; pp; illus. Inscribed by the author on the copyright page in the month of publication: "This copy is for Shig. Richard Brautigan / December 16, 1966." Fine. Brautigan's first regularly published book, inscribed to Shigeyoshi "Shig" Murao, who managed the City Lights Bookstore for more than 25 years. Murao was at the very center of the San Francisco Beat scene, who knew Brautigan since he was an awkward 20-something newcomer to the Bay Area. As the years passed and Brautigan's output began to grow, he would frequently visit Murao at City Lights, checking to see if any of his poetry pamphlets had sold. Though Brautigan was grew more contentious as his fame grew, their's was a friendship that lasted decades. A distinguished copy. Barber A7. [Attributes: Signed Copy]
