Hayashi Seiichi Gekiga Sakuhinshu (Collected - Seiichi, Hayashi - 1945.
2 vols.: I. 185 pp. collection of several complete works of manga by the noted artist Hayashi Seiichi (born 1945), best known for the genre of manga known as gekiga, with more realistic dialog and pictures than the characteristic overblown imagery better known in the west, fully illustrated throughout in subtle colors; II. 189 pp. including several additional examples as well as an interview with the author/artist giving his comments on each of the manga included in both volumes, a chronology of his life, works and exhibitions, and list of prizes, also profusely illustrated throughout. Large 8vo. Boards, d.j., slipcases. Tokyo (Hokuto Shobo) 1976. The manga collected here appeared in various publications between 1967 and 1975, when Seiichi was making his mark as a seminal figure in the field. Unlike much contemporary work, the images here are relatively restrained and reality based. Though some episodes are highly sexual in nature, Seiichi refrains from the exaggerated depictions of faces, bodies and genitalia often associated with the form. As of December 2014 WorldCat is unable to locate this collection in North American libraries.
