The Revelations of a Private Detective - Forrester, Andrew ( James Redding Ware - 1863.
Ward and Lock, London 1863 - The book is fragile, bound in the original yellow illustrated boards, with the hinges splitting and the webbing showing, the boards are somewhat bumped and marked, the colourfully decorated spine is substantially complete, with only minor loss. The text block is slightly toned, foxed and dusty, with a small bookseller's label to the front pastedown, it is free from inscriptions. A rare early collection of detective stories, exceptionally so in the original boards, they are noteworthy for the development of the genre, and also in explicitly referencing their debt to the then recently deceased grandfather of modern crime fiction, Edgar Allan Poe.
