Half morocco, spine gilt with red morocco title labels. French translation of the author's Die Handfeuerwaffem, a history of small arms as developed from early ordnance, first published Basel, 1875. 'Includes information on rare and obscure types and varieties of the breach-loading arm' (Riling). The work contains a source index of 27 of the principal 19th century works on the subject, tables of dimensions and weights of different small arms, an alphabetical subject index, and a list of plates and figures. Schmidt, a Swiss staff major and director of the Federal Arms Factory, published seven other studies on fire arms. Riling 989 (note). [Attributes: Hard Cover]
